Abstract: Reputation system in Peer to Peer networks has been an intensive area of research. The widespread use of internet inevitably produces malicious peers who try to disrupt the network by flooding it with inauthentic files. This necessitates the need for a robust reputation system to identify bad peers and files. The core problem facing peer-to-peer system is locating documents in a decentralized network and downloading the right file from a trusted peer, hence we propose a framework focusing on the behaviour of peers in a centralized cum decentralized P2P files sharing using the mix of community, peer and file rating mechanism. It aims to reduce the search time complexity and remove the adverse effects of malicious peers in the network. The model requires each peer to provide textual feedback for the file it downloads and this feedback is used to rate the file and in turn rate the provider and the community. This reputation model also provides security from attackers!
, who try to modify the feedback, with the help of encryption algorithms. The results show that it performs well as compared with traditional peer behaviour.
