Abstract: Through case studies in an IT manufacturing firm, this paper investigates how the collaborations among the supply chain partners in the form of virtual teams affect the performance of the new product development. By following the steps of case study, data of different phases for four product lines are collected by four independent teams via in-depth interviews to working managers. Data analysis is made by comparing the figures in different time periods and in the same period of the key parameters before and after the collaboration, with or without virtual teams, using traditional IT tools or web-based IT platform. This paper proves that it can be achieved by enhancing their NPD performance through supply chain collaboration (SCC) in the form of virtual teams under the web-based IT platform environment. Overall performance of the new product development (NPD) increases significantly after adoption of collaboration, especially in the form of virtual teams. Original p!
roduct manufacturing (OEM) firm¡¦s NPD process focuses more on the product design stage. Product and IT technologies are basic survival factors that can be learned quickly, but cultural and behavioral components are the firm¡¦s source of differentiations.
