Abstract: The purpose of increasing contention window size in the Binary Exponential Backoff (BEB) algorithm is, to reduce the contention in the wireless local area networks. BEB algorithm which has doubles the contention window size due to RTS collision or packet losses in wireless channel. This will increase the delay or channel idle time in the wireless networks. In this paper, we analyze the new approach for modeling MAC scheme to decrease the channel idle time and significantly increase the throughput of IEEE 802.11 Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) protocol under a non-saturation condition. The new analytic model takes in to account of the impact of channel error and station retry limits for analyzing real networks. We develop an expression for the non-saturation throughput as a function of the number of stations, packet size and also calculate SNR values using slow Rayleigh fading channel. Numerical results and simulations are provided to validate the accuracy o!
f our model and it is verified by the IEEE 802.11 DCF performance with BEB.
