Abstract: As the growing amount of waste created by the construction industry poses severe environmental challenges, environmentally conscious construction processes have emerged as an issue of increasing importance for both the industry and society at large. The proper management of the construction and demolition waste, which constitutes the major solid waste stream in the European Union (apart from mining and farm waste) appears to be of great merit. Reverse logistics and waste management offer the appropriate contextual framework within which the problem can be tackled comprehensively. Towards this effect, a conceptual framework is presented on the current status and legislation in the field of construction and demolition waste management, as well as on the optimal deconstruction and demolition practices of the end-of-life buildings with the goals of materials' recycling and waste minimization. In addition, a novel integrated decision-making model for the entire construc!
tion and demolition supply chain is proposed starting from the deconstruction and demolition decisions till the transportation of the collected materials to potential recyclers/customers and waste disposal sites. Finally, we conclude with a demonstration of the application of the developed model is via a specific case study, and by discussing few interesting managerial insights.

Abstract: - Suspension system is an important part of the car design, because it influences both the comfort and safety of the passengers. In this paper an active suspension using linear electric motor is designed. This article is also focused on experiments with active suspension – developing an appropriate input signal for the test bed and evaluation of the results. Second important aspect of the active suspension design is energy demand of the system. Modification of the standard controller which allows changing amount of energy required by the system has been designed. Performance of the modification was verified taking various experiments.

Abstract: Hydrogen is industrially produced mainly from fossil fuels by the natural gas steam reforming, the coal gasification and as a by-product of the naphtha reforming. In the future, with respect of a lack of fossil fuels, hydrogen produced from water can play a very important role in the energy system. One of the way how to produce hydrogen from water are water splitting thermo-chemical cycles which replace thermal decomposition of water with several partial reactions. In the study, two most promising water splitting thermo-chemical cycles (Westinghouse cycle and Sulphur-Iodine cycle) were compared with two different processes for hydrogen production (coal gasification and coal pyrolysis). Results obtained from LCA of these processes are reported in the paper.

Abstract: In this study, technological developments and market tendencies in photovoltaic cell (PV) industry are investigated. The increasing energy demand and decrease in conventional energy resources orientates researches to be in tendency to continuously increase the output of alternative energy resources. Today, crystal silicon cells significantly dominate tendencies in PV Cell market with their converting outputs exceeding 20% in small areas. However, a PV panel with silicon crystal is very expensive. To increase output efficiency by decreasing costs of PV cells and modules, nanotechnology approaches are very important. Nanomaterials that used in PV cell production, absorb sunlight better, increase the energy transformation and cheaper than other materials but require special fabrication fixtures. PV cell market is dominated by Japan and Germany. Installation tendencies are become dense on grid-connected systems. Although the costs of PV module per watt generally follow!

Abstract: The solar energy is one of the most important energy sources available because, besides the fact that it is not polluting the environment and it helps to the reduction of green house effect, it is free of charge and it can be easily converted to other forms of energy. Clean and renewable energy production is getting more attractive due to global warming, environmental factors and decrease in conventional energy sources. Photovoltaic cells will be a good alternative against the conventional energy sources in the near future, with their decreasing costs and increasing efficiencies. Photovoltaic cells (PV) are exposed to a lot of various loads depending on their increasing usage areas. Among the energy expenses for a building, the lighting system can contribute up to 50% of the total electrical consumption, and especially large quantities of energy are used in schools and office buildings. For that reason lighting devices are important energy consuming units in our da!
ily life. In this study different load effects on PV cells are examined experimentally. D.C. and A.C. load behaviors are analyzed in switching and in steady state regime and their power-time curves are obtained for the demand of system power. Negative effects of the inverter circuit, which is used for feeding A.C. loads on the system, are expressed experimentally.

Abstract: In this paper, we employ gridded model for channel routing and place the terminals which are horizontally aligned. We have developed a two-layer channel router that can eliminate the constraints due to overlap. The proposed approach is suitable for cell/IP-based channel-less circuit with a few channels. Our developed tool can route the nets in nearly linear time achieving to the advantage of time to market, and lead to the area overhead of 6.34% increase in average. The area overhead results from the space insertion, and we also have shown that the proposed algorithm can achieve 100% routing on most ISCAS¡¦85 benchmarks. In addition, the number of channel tracks can be minimized by our algorithm. We proposed the star-routing algorithm for three layers channel routing using Manhattan-Diagonal Model to solve the channel routing problem. We drew up the smaller grid-model, and in order to avoid violating the DRC, so the algorithm has a restriction for the third metal-l!
ayer in routing step. We don¡¦t need to increasing extra spaces and moving any pins in order to finish the routing completely. The foregoing is good for hard blocks to finish the routing easily, and it does not replace the location of hard blocks because of routing incompletely. Therefore, the height of the entire routing channel can reduce a lot.

Abstract: A method to generate a quintic B-spline curve which passes through given points is described. In this case, there are four more equations than there are control point positions. Two methods have been developed to compensate for the difference between the number of unknowns and that of the equations. These are assuming that the curvatures at both ends of the curve are zero, and assigning four gradients to the given points. In addition to this method, another method to generate a quintic B-spline curve which passes close to given points, and which has the first derivative at these given points is described. In this case, a linear system will be underdetermined, determined or overdetermined depending on the number of given points with gradients. A method to modify a quintic B-spline curve shape according to the specified radius of curvature distribution to realize an aesthetically pleasing freeform curve is described. The difference between the B-spline curve radius o!

Abstract: Parabolic dish solar concentrators are very expensive devices with a cost of up to a half of the total cost of a solar power station. The specific technology of parabolic mirror manufacturing makes the decrease of the cost very problematic. Even in mass production the cost of a parabolic mirror is estimated as $500 per square meter. There is another way to make a parabolic concentrator by approximating a parabolic surface with large number of small flat mirrors. We created a small prototype of this type of solar concentrator which contains 24 flat mirrors in the form of equilateral triangles with side length of 50mm. This prototype has special nuts to adjust the positions of the nodes in the points of connections of the apexes. These nuts make it possible to approximate the parabolic shape in an easy and inexpensive way.

Abstract: The paper analyzes the close-circuit Brayton (Joule) cycles for High Temperature Gas (Helium) cooled nuclear Reactors (HTGR). Analyzed cycles are with Regenerative Heat Exchanger (RHE), Fragmented Compression and Inter-Cooling (FC&IC). The HTGR imposes the working agent and hot source¡¦s parameters. The cooling conditions give the cycle¡¦s minimal temperature. In the 1st paper¡¦s section, for ideal processes cycles, we show that: A) the boundary parameters and design schemes inflict: A1) the compression ratios (ƒÕ), A2) the specific net work per 1 kg He (wnet), and A3) the thermal efficiencies (£bth); B) the performances are increasing with the IC¡¦s number. In the 2nd section we are taking into consideration the irreversibility¡¦s factors (temperature difference at RHE, revolving machines isentropic efficiencies, and pressure drops) doing sensitivity analyses about their influences on real processes cycle¡¦s performances. We show that: 1) cycle¡¦s performances are!
not continuous growing with IC¡¦s number, and 2) the main influences on design¡¦s option are given by: 21) the temperature difference at RHE and 22) the pressure drops. In the 3rd section we adjusted all the quality factors in a similar manner, reducing the irreversibilities, showing the synergic influences. The 4th section relaxes the hot source¡¦s restrictions. It analyses the influence of HTGR output / input temperatures variation on the main thermodynamic data, showing: £\) the benefit of maximal temperature increase and £]) the need to correlate HTGR¡¦s temperature increment output vs. input with the maximal temperature. The final section contains the main conclusions of the paper.

Abstract: In this paper we consider a modified model of an Alpazur oscillator with a periodically switching operation. Complex oscillatory phenomena are observed due to both switching operation and the appearance of an additional nonlinear component in circuit model. Indeed, subharmonic oscillations and chaotic behavior are illustrated. In addition, time series, phase trajectories and power spectrum was examined in the analysis of the system dynamics. The transition to chaotic states through doubling period bifurcation cascade and the direct transition from fundamental harmonic or odd subharmonic orbits and transition from a special bifurcation paths to chaotic states are discussed in the state space. The role of higher harmonic spectral lines in period-1 responses under parameter variation have seemingly similarities with the results obtained in previous works for non switched dynamical system. Abstract: This paper presents a new control scheme for dynamic voltage restorer (DVR), which consists of a set of series and shunt converters connected back-to-back (BTB), three series transformers, and a dc capacitor installed on the common dc-link. The DVR is characterized by installing the shunt converter on the source side and the series converter on the load side. A decoupled multiple reference frame phase-locked-loop (DMRF-PLL) is proposed, which decouples signals of different frequencies and eliminates interactions between the fundamental-frequency positive-sequence components and harmonic and/or negative-sequence components in the grid voltages. The proposed DMRF-PLL scheme achieves a fast, precise, and robust positive-sequence voltage detection even under unbalanced and/or distorted grid voltages conditions. A detailed description and derivation of the detection method is presented. Besides, a separate proportional-integral (PI) controller is adopted to regulate the!
dc-link capacitor voltage. The load voltage waveform is restored to be sinusoidal with fundamental frequency by dynamically injecting compensating voltages to the series brunch of converters. The validity and effectiveness of the presented scheme has been confirmed by extensive simulation results obtained from a 380V/50kVA system using Matlab/Simulink.

Abstract: A remote location in the northeastern part of Naxos Island, Greece, has been investigated with respect to wind power potential, using real data collected from a measurement mast. The obtained wind characteristics were statistically analyzed using the Weibull and Rayleigh distribution functions. The results from this investigation showed that the selected site falls under Class 7 of the international system of wind classification as the mean annual wind speed recorded in the area was 7.4 m/s and the corresponding annual mean power density was estimated to be 420 W/m2. Furthermore, the prevailing wind directions characterizing the area were the northeastern and the north-northeastern. From the statistical analysis of these results, it was revealed that the Weibull model fitted the actual data better. This remark was further enhanced by the evaluation of the performance of these two distributions. Finally, the expected energy production from two potentially installed !
wind turbines of 1 MW and 2.5 MW has been determined, based on the available wind potential. The resulting annual energy production is 4 GWhe and 8 GWhe for the wind turbine of 1 MW and 2.5 MW respectively.

Abstract: The proposed mathematical model is a numerical method to find the temperature distribution at metals processing with concentrated laser beam, assisted by an active gas jet. The quality and effects of laser beam processing depend on: optimal choosing of the irradiation parameters, characteristics of the processed material surface, additional gas, parameters of the focalization system etc and setting up an optimal processing regime by choosing and maintaining these optimal values during the whole irradiation process as well. The first part of this paper deals with the differential equations system, which governs the laser processing of materials in the presence of the O2 jet, occurring on the mobile irradiation. The numerical method of solving the mathematical model is presented in the second part of the paper. It will base the solving of mathematical model equations, with the advantage of a better approximation of the real phenomenon by considering the simultaneous !
existence of the solid, liquid, and vaporization states in the material zone interacting with laser beam. The defocusing effect of laser beam simultaneous with its advancement in material and the energy loss by electromagnetic radiation and convection will be taken into account as well. The last part of paper presents the graphical representations of radial distribution of the temperature of the three phases: solid, liquid and vapors, and the obtained numerical results, which allow the determining of the technological parameters of processing and the material constants.

Abstract: Models of radio channel propagation are indispensable in the analysis and design of wireless communication systems. They are used to predict power and interference levels and analyze other properties of the radio link. The main goal of this work is to present a tool that we have developed subject to characterize and modelling indoor radio channel propagation. The tool is based on the ray tracing technique (RTT). This, is used to predict the propagation of HF electromagnetic waves. As, in realistic environment we cannot neglect the significant impact of Human Body Shadowing and other objects in motion on indoor 60 GHz propagation channel. Hence, our proposed model allows a simulation of propagation in a dynamic indoor environment. First, we describe a model of human body. Second, RTT with this model is used to simulate the propagation of millimeter waves in the presence of persons in motion. Results of the simulation show that this tool gives results in agreement wi!

Abstract: The Earth's ionosphere plays a crucial role in Global Positioning System (GPS) accuracy because this layer represents the largest source of positioning error for the users of the GPS after the turn-off of Selective Availability (SA). This paper studies the ionospheric effect on transionospheric signal propagation for the Earth-satellite path using 3D Jones Ray-Tracing utilizing Nelder-Mead optimisation algorithm. The ionospheric delay or advance is obtained from the difference between the distance of the ray path from the satellite to the receiver determined from the ray-tracing and the distance for propagation over the line of sight (LOS) at the velocity of light in vacuum. The difference between the standard dual-frequency models corrected range and LOS, known as Residual Range Error (RRE) is calculated. Results show that the RRE of group delay value is different from RRE of phase advance. On the other hand, the group and phase path is longer when considering the!
geomagnetic field effect on both GPS frequencies L1 and L2. The higher order term in total electron content (TEC) calculation that relates to the refractive index is normally neglected due to its small value, but it is clearly shown that it does have some effects in ray-tracing. This analysis needs to be considered for more accurate GPS range finding.

Abstract: This paper presents a new analysis of friction and heat transfer in the slip flow boundary layer at constant heat flux boundary conditions for both liquids and gases. By using similarity solution, the fundamental equations of the boundary layer are transformed to ordinary differential equations containing a prandtl number. These ordinary differential equations are solved numerically by using a fourth order Runge-Kutta and shooting method. Consequently, the velocity profiles, temperature profiles, the wall shear stress and the local Nusselt number exhibit a dependence on the slip coefficient. It is shown that laminar boundary layer with slip flow can sufficiently reduce wall friction through slip flow conditions for both cases and increase heat transfer rate in liquids at constant heat flux boundary conditions.

Abstract: Image registration and fusion are conducted using an automated approach, which applies the automatic adaptation from frame to frame with the threshold parameters. Rather than qualitative approach, quantitative measures have been proposed to evaluate outcomes of retina image fusion. Concepts of the discrete entropy, discrete energy, relative entropy, mutual information, uncertainty coefficient and information redundancy have been introduced. Both the Canny edge detector and control point identification are employed to extract retinal vasculature using the adaptive exploratory algorithms. The shape similarity criteria have been selected for control point matching. The Mutual-Pixel-Count maximization based optimal procedure has also been developed to adjust the control points at the sub-pixel level. Abstract: Some practical approaches have been presented successfully, which can be applied for control engineering education. Compared with conventional lecturing and laboratory exercising, instructing outcomes can be improved significantly. Two independent sets of instruments from Feedback Instruments Limited are selected to conduct experiments on a basis of the fundamental control theories. In particular, the 33-110 servo system is selected, consisting of three components: mechanical unit, analogue unit and digital unit. The 150 servo system contains a number of major discrete component units. Both systems can be used to test the fundamental control principles, such as the PID control. Abstract: Abstract: A simple span T-beam bridge was analyzed by using AASHTO specifications and Loadings as a one dimensional structure, then a three- dimensional structure was carried out by using finite element plate for the deck slab and beam elements for the main beam. Both models were subjected to 1.5 AASHTO Loadings and at the same locations to produce maximum bending moment and maximum shear. Abstract: Abstract: A simple span T-beam bridge was analyzed by using AASHTO specifications and Loadings as a one dimensional structure, then a three- dimensional structure was carried out by using finite element plate for the deck slab and beam elements for the main beam. Both models were subjected to 1.5 AASHTO Loadings and at the same locations to produce maximum bending moment and maximum shear. The results were analyzed and it was found that the results obtained from the finite element model are smaller than the results obtained from one dimensional analysis, which means that the results obtained from AASHTO loadings are consecutive.

Abstract: Water restrictions are currently in place in most of the major cities of Australia in response to the severe drought. In order to manage water resources in a sustainable manner and to help reduce the restrictions, developing methods to recycle and reuse the stormwater and effluent water/waste water has become an important and urgent issue. This paper presents a review of the available stormwater treatment and reuse techniques and introduces a new technology known as 'Green Gully' that collects, purifies and reuses stormwater throughout an automated network system. The component of Green Gully along with experimental set-up and procedures are described. Preliminary experimental result on performance of Green Gully is provided and discussed. A comparative study of available treatment measures with respect to advantages, disadvantages and pollutant trapping efficiency is presented and discussed. This paper also highlights the current stormwater reuse techniques to red!
uce the water crisis. Conclusions based on a comparative study of stormwater treatment measures and reuse techniques are presented, which will be useful for stormwater researchers, planners and stormwater management in general.

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to address the multi-objective optimization via combined fuzzy satisfied method and evolution programming (E.P.) method. The concept of non-inferiority is employed to characterize a solution of the multi-objective problem. Then, a fuzzy satisfied method based on evolutionary programming is introduced to determine the optimal solution. As a result, the objective functions of the optimization problem are modelled with fuzzy sets to represent their imprecise nature. That also enables us to reduce the inaccuracies in decision-makers¡¦ judgments. A time-sharing computer program is implemented, and an application to a multi-objective operation problem in feeder reconfiguration in electric power systems is demonstrated along with the computer outputs. In conclusion, the proposed solution algorithm allows for a more realistic problem formulation efficiently obtained the optimal solution for the tested system with a large search space.

Abstract: It is well known that noise reduces the efficiency in transportation. However, what is not so well known is that a small variation of noise can sometimes trigger an abrupt change to the whole system. In this paper, we report such a phase transition induced by the variation of noise. We study the influence of stochastic noise in asymmetric simple exclusion processes in the presence of an on-ramp. Two types of bottleneck can be induced by the noise. With a small noise, a light bottleneck is observed as traffic jams emerge intermittently around the on-ramp. With a large noise, a heavy bottleneck is observed as the traffic in the upstream becomes severely congested. An abrupt transition separates these two types of bottleneck effects. We obtain the detailed phase diagram, which summarizes all the possible states. The density profile, headway distribution, and spatial-temporal trajectory are discussed. We also comment on the daily experiences on highway traffic.

Abstract: The combined effects of ionizing radiations (electron beams of 5.5 MeV) and non-ionizing radiations (microwaves of 2.45 GHz) on the inactivation of total number of germs (TNG) and moulds in depreciated food such as wheat bran, wheat flour and minced beef are presented. The following types of treatments were performed with electron beams (EB) and microwaves (MW): separate EB irradiation, separate MW irradiation, successive irradiation (EB irradiation followed by MW heating) named (EB+MW), successive irradiation (MW heating followed by EB irradiation) named MW+EB and simultaneous irradiation with EB and MW named S(EB+MW). The first interesting experimental result is that the microorganism's survival fraction diminishes exponentially with EB dose for the separate EB irradiation while for the separate MW irradiation the microorganism's survival fraction exhibits an oscillatory decrease versus MW dose: periods of microorganism inhibition are followed by periods of micro!
organism stimulation. The second important result is that all combined irradiation procedures such as S(EB+MW), followed by MW+EB and then by EB+MW, cause greater reduction of NTG and mould survival fractions than separate EB irradiation or separate MW irradiation. The S(EB+MW) treatment type produces the maximum reduction of NTG and moulds. The third important result is that the EB dose level could be reduced by a factor in the range of 1.5-2.5 by combined EB and MW irradiation.

Abstract: The paper presents the test results obtained for SO2, NOx and VOCs removal at semi-pilot scale by combined electron beams (EB) and microwaves (MW) induced non-thermal plasma processes, named EB+MW-NTP. Also, it is described a demonstrative installation consisting of an EB source of 1.8 MeV and 10.8 kW, a microwave source of 2.45 GHz and 4.2 kW and a reaction chamber of 1.102 m x 0.73 m x 0.243 m inner dimensions, in which are injected both, EB and MW. For VOCs removal is used combined EB+MW-NTP and catalytic oxidation, named EB+MW-plasma catalysis, by introducing a catalyst bed at the bottom end of the reaction chamber. The high power EB and MW sources are able to activate the catalyst without additional heat supply. The EB+MW-NTP process, compared with separate EB-NTP or separate MW-NTP process, provides higher pollutants removal efficiencies. The results suggest that chemical reactions driven in both types of plasma, EB-plasma and MW-plasma, complete and sustain!
each other at a higher rate level in the case of pollutants treatment by EB+MW-plasma.

Abstract: Abstract: The artificial neural networks (ANN) have proven their efficiency in several applications: pattern recognition, voice and classification problems. The training stage is very important in the ANN's performance. The selection of the architecture of a neural network suitable to solve a given problem is one of the most important aspects of neural network research. The choice of the hidden layers number and the values of weights has a large impact on the convergence of the training algorithm. In this paper we propose a mathematical formulation in order to determine the optimal number of hidden layers and good values of weights. To solve this problem, we use genetic algorithms. The numerical results assess the effectiveness of the theorical results shown in this paper and computational experiments are presented, and the advantages of the new modelling.

Abstract: During the last decade, metaheuristics have become increasingly popular for effectively confronting difficult combinatorial optimization problems. In the present paper, two individual meatheuristic algorithmic solutions, the ArcGIS Network Analyst and the Ant Colony System (ACS) algorithm, are introduced, implemented and discussed for the identification of optimal routes in the case of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) collection. Both proposed applications are based on a geo-referenced spatial database supported by a Geographic Information System (GIS). GIS are increasingly becoming a central element for coordinating, planning and managing transportation systems, and so in collaboration with combinatorial optimization techniques they can be used to improve aspects of transit planning in urban regions. Here, the GIS takes into account all the required parameters for the MSW collection (i.e. positions of waste bins, road network and the related traffic, truck capacities, !
etc) and its desktop users are able to model realistic network conditions and scenarios. In this case, the simulation consists of scenarios of visiting varied waste collection spots in the Municipality of Athens (MoA). The user, in both applications, is able to define or modify all the required dynamic factors for the creation of an initial scenario, and by modifying these particular parameters, alternative scenarios can be generated. Finally, the optimal solution is estimated by each routing optimization algorithm, followed by a comparison between these two algorithmic approaches on the newly designed collection routes. Furthermore, the proposed interactive design of both approaches has potential application in many other environmental planning and management problems.

Abstract: In this paper a new approach is presented for key management access and sharing secret keys between certified users of a group. Such schemes are referred to as Symmetric Key Management Systems. The concept of information lifecycle management is first presented and analysed in the context of data storage efficiency. This concept is then extended for use with the management of symmetric secret keys. The need for a standard in symmetric secret key management is presented and founded on software engineering principles. A novel scheme contributing in this direction is hence presented. Specifically, access controls processes are presented that are based on passwords. These passwords, with the additional use of the AES cryptographic algorithm and nonces can be used to provide not only authentication for the access control in the system but additionally for the access in the encrypted file that stores all the symmetrical secret keys of each user of certified group. Followi!
ng this, a new approach for the lifecycle management of secret keys is presented in order to achieve the secure communication based on encryption - decryption of all the messages in real time with the simultaneous use of two symmetrical secret keys for each transmission of information between the users. It is finally concluded that this innovative technology guarantees the automatic password and secret keys management lifecycle irrespective of the actions of the users and provides secure communication between certified group of users in local network and in internet.

Abstract: In this paper model for managing the Job Rotation of personnel attached to specific military units is proposed. This model aims to maintain the level of the overall preparedness of the units against known risks, by maintaining the presence of skilled personnel present in the unit at any time. The model is used for the development of a software tool that manages the systematic training of army officers in risk prevention and crisis management. The aim of this tool is to globally optimize the movements of army officers between units and training centers so that no units are ever left without skilled staff trained for a particular type of contingency. While officers are in training, they prepare for new hazards and prepare emergency plans for dealing with these particular hazards with the support of more experienced trainers or mentors. When this rotation ends, officers return to their units and assume responsibilities in both implementing the plans they have helped c!
reate, as well as in disseminating the knowledge and skills they have acquired and training more of the unit's staff in being able to conduct appropriate parts of the newly introduced emergency procedures.

Abstract: Security in digital transmission is an increasingly interesting topic in a number of fields. In many cases however, the need for security is forfeited due to the high complexity of commonly used cryptosystems. The use of the underdetermined source separation problem as a basis for a cryptographic mechanism has recently been proposed. Many cryptographic algorithms, such as public key algorithms which based a common military application, use as a basis intractable number theory problems (such as integer factorization and exponentiation). Underdetermined blind source separation is also shown to have the potential to serve this purpose, as the difficulties of deriving an analytic solution to this problem have been extensively documented. This paper presents a study of blind source separation based encryption, proposes some further improvements in approaches that have already been presented and illustrates the application of the improved algorithms in the paradigm of se!
cure speech communication. The proposed scheme is related to Independent Component Analysis Concepts. A preliminary cryptanalysis study is presented that verifies the adequacy of the new scheme for use in mobile military communication units and other applications where security is critical. The proposed scheme is also shown to be immune to some of the attacks to which existing methods were believed to be vulnerable.
