Abstract: This paper introduces an empirical study conducted to investigate the use and effect of multimodal metaphors in e-learning applications. This investigation involved two different interface platforms performed by forty users. The first interface platform (textual interface), based on three input modalities, namely text, graphic, and speech, was used to deliver information about note-taking. The second platform interface (multimodal interface) was based on five input modali-ties, including; text, graphic, speech, avatar and earcons to deliver the same infor-mation. The aim of the experiment was to measure and compare the level of usa-bility of textual and multimodal interfaces. The usability parameters, which are efficiency, effectiveness, and users' satisfaction, were considered in the experi-ment. The results obtained from this investigation have shown that the multimodal e-learning interface increased the level of usability as users took significantly less time to!
complete the tasks, performed successfully in a higher number of tasks, and were more satisfied than when using the textual interface. These input modalities could be used to improve the attractiveness of note taking which in turn will be reflected in increasing users' motivation and interest in the presented learning material.

Abstract: This paper reports a comparative empirical investigation of the effects of content size on user satisfaction and customisation of five different personalised menu types: adaptable, adaptive split, adaptive/adaptable highlighted, adaptive/adaptable minimised and mixed-initiative menus. Two independent experiments were conducted, on small menus (17 items) and large menus (29 items) respectively. The experiment was conducted with 30 subjects and was tested empirically by four independent groups (15 subjects each). Results show that in small menus, the minimised condition was preferred overall, followed by the adaptable and hig-hlighted types. By contrast, in large menus, the mixed-initiative condition was the most strongly preferred, followed by the minimised approach.

Abstract: This paper reports an empirical study which investigated the controllability of four interactive conditions: static, adaptive, adaptable and mixed-initiative. Each of these conditions was implemented separately as a web-based e-commerce application. These environments were tested independently by four separate groups, each consisting of 15 users. Results show that the mixed-initiative condition was the best in terms of controllability. In addition, surprisingly, subjects who used the adaptive condition were found to have a similar level of control to those using the static condition.

Abstract: Many banks diversify their operations, either across different national markets (global diversification), across different borrowers by offsetting credit risks (hedging diversification), or both. Can multiple diversifications provide greater safety for banks? This paper aims to answer this question by using an option-based pricing model to formulate the default risk in bank equity returns under global and hedging diversifications. In particular, we apply Vassalou and Xing¡¦s (2004) formula, which is a nonlinear option-based function of the default probability of an individual bank¡¦s equity return. This formula is calculated using the contingent claim methodology of Black and Scholes (1973) and Merton (1974). We find that the extent of global diversification may provide greater safety for banks, but also that the extent of hedging diversification may not.

Abstract: The behavior of outside portfolio managers of large money-center banks as analyzed to date is silent. In a centralized loan portfolio construction with decentralized loan portfolio management, changes in the bank¡¦s degree of capital market imperfection have direct effects on the bank¡¦s interest margin through the centralized as well as the decentralized loan rate determinations. We use a two-stage model of option-based analysis to study how information asymmetry and optimal bank loan rates relate to one another. We find that the decentralized loan rate managed by the outside loan manager is positively related to the bank¡¦s degree of capital market imperfection. The centralized loan rate managed by the bank is positively related to its degree of capital market imperfection under strategic complements, but negatively under strategic substitutes.

Abstract: A novel method of direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation based on subarray beamforming for uniform circular arrays is proposed. In this method, the beamform manifold of uniform circular arrays is transformed via virtual structure, and then the virtual array is divided into two subarrrays. The target DOA is estimated from the phase shift between the reference signal and its phase-shifted version by subarray beamforming. Since the reference signal is obtained after interference rejection, the effect of interference The computation of the proposed method is simple, and the number of the signal sources of target is not bounded by the number of antenna elements. Simulation results demonstrate that proposed method has significantly improved estimation resolution, capacity, and accuracy relative to other method.

Abstract: This study identifies the difference between the environments for which the old generation lives in comparing with that of the new one. This difference in environment push us to improve our traditional way of teaching-learning process by supplying it with more technology tools that fits our new generation who is drugged with computer and technology .And the interactive learning is a good tool in improving this process . In this study we will see the influence of interactive learning on giving students a physical grasp of the concepts, and that it is the best way to enforce the concepts that students need to learn throughout their educational career. Several mathematical instructors claimed that the use of interactive learning as a tool in the teaching-learning process is useless, while others insist on its use. To solve this conflict, a survey study is done on two high schools and one university. The results will be supported by experimental designs and statis!

Abstract: Tests on models can provide both information on the verification of calculation methods and solutions that theory currently can not provide. Climate processes occurring in a site are complex and not fully capture the phenomenon of mass transfer of fluid motion and heat. Those basic methods are used hydraulic moulding, which bypass the practical difficulties created by the incompatibility of the conditions of similarity (using areas of forging, hydraulic or geometric distortion).

Abstract: Energy is the source that has been driving the mankind in this technological era. Usage of energy depicts the level of development of a nation. The energy resources of the world are under severe pressure to cope up with the growing need of energy. The technological changes and changes in the lifestyle have increased the demand for energy tremendously. With the resources become scarce and energy costs growing, it becomes imperative for everyone to save energy or to use the available energy judiciously. The need is to either find new sources of energy or to use the energy available carefully. Lighting forms a major chunk of load on our electrical power system. Energy efficiency in lighting involves building architecture, selection of proper luminaries and light sources. This paper presents the study of energy conservation measures adopted in a spinning unit. The payback period is also calculated.

Abstract: Wireless networks become more popular nowadays because of wide range of applications. The wireless networks are applied in the miniature and sensitive elements, which form the network elements. The demand for bandwidth is growing at a rapid pace, and the Internet data traffic is expected to dominate voice traffic in the near future. With the Internet protocol (IP) playing a dominant role in wide area networking technology and advancements in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technology to provide enormous bandwidth over and above the range of Tera bits per second, the IP-over-WDM networks become the right choice for the next generation Internet networks. On the other hand, wireless networks have flexible deployment. The next generation networking technology will be the hybrid wireless optical networks deploying the huge bandwidth of optical networks and the flexibility of wireless networks. This paper presents a new virtual topology reconfiguration algorithm f!
or wireless optical networks using IP-over-WDM technology. Further this paper investigates such networks under the consideration of QoS parameters.

Abstract: Direct Anonymous Attestation (DAA) is a cryptographic mechanism adopted by the Trusted Computing Group in its specifications for trusted computing platforms (TCP). In this paper, we propose a new DAA scheme and prove it is secure under the strong RSA assumption and the decisional Diffie-Hellman assumption. While satisfying all the security properties proposed in previous DAA schemes, our scheme provides a new desired security property, forward security: compromise of the current private key of TPM does not enable an adversary to forge signatures pertaining to the past. Such forward security is important to mitigate the damage caused by private key exposure.

In the context of the climate changes the surface water resources become scarce or too expensive even within complex hydraulic schemes. Consequently groundwater resource is extremely valuable for drinking water and other demands for clean water. In order to have an efficient management, an integrated approach is needed taking into consideration all aspects that are related to groundwater resource. GIS offers tools for such an objective like an Enterprise Geodatabase unitary structure. As EU member Romania has to adopt and apply EU regulations including technology (like spatial data formats). Abstract: Abstract. - Conceptual design of flat-plate collector (FPC) with integrated solar-powered pump (SPP) has been carried out. SPP represents simple heat engine - membrane pump operating through alternating of processes of evaporation and condensation in its working chamber. It should provide circulation of water using part of absorbed by FPC heat returning it finally to the same heat carrier. Two basic versions of structural layout of FPC have been considered: the first - with flow-through absorber (with circulation of water through riser pipes welded to absorbing plate) and the second – with absorber with gravity-assisted heat pipes (GAHPs). Important role of proper organization of boiling heat transfer on downward-facing heating surface of working chamber, in terms of efficient operation of SPP, is stated. Thermo-hydrodynamic peculiarities of this process are considered. The ways of improvement of reliability and efficiency of SPP are outlined.

Abstract: Recently, an online social network phenomenon has swept over the Web and the signs say that Social Networking Sites (SNS) are growing in importance not just as places for individuals to communicate, network, and express themselves but also as advertising and marketing vehicles. Combining social networks to the mobile environment is a growing interest as it allows users to be in their online social community despite their mobility. To date, several surveys and studies have brought some insights into this field. However, methods are often not general or detailed enough for evaluation and comparison. In this study we highlight latest trends and evolution of Mobile Social Networking and Online-Communities. The existing research is reviewed and organized to summarize what we know about their usage. This paper concludes with discussion of new developments, challenges and opportunities. There are many opportunities for future research and organizational applications of SN!
S as SNS adoption grows at incredible rates. What we present in this study can be generalized for other enterprise-grade Social Networks, either for their own business purposes or as a contract job for another company.

Abstract: The paper presents the overview of current methods for air quality evaluation, i.e. air stress indices and, especially, air quality indices. Traditional air quality indices are determined as mean values of selected air pollutants. Thus, air quality evaluation depends on strictly given limits without taking into account specific local conditions and synergic relations between air pollutants and other meteorological factors. The stated limitations can be eliminated e.g. using systems based on fuzzy logic. Therefore, the paper presents a design of air quality indices based on hierarchical fuzzy inference systems. Tree and cascade hierarchical fuzzy inference systems of Mamdani type are proposed as alternative air quality indices. For selected localities, they provide both the resulting class of air quality and the degree of membership to each class.

Abstract: This paper presents a non-linear model for the external grinding of a cylindrical work-piece. A system of non-linear differential equations for the vibrations of the tool and the work-piece is obtained. Non-linearity comes from the cutting force dependence on the feeding velocity and depth of cut. We determine the number of the equilibrium positions, we proved that there exists only one equilibrium position and we study its stability. Results of simulation are discussed. A chaotic regime is found for realistic values of the grinding parameters.

Abstract: Thermal mechanisms are complex by their own and even more when applied to a complex system, either geometrically either physically, such as the transformer is. However, the required transformer thermal model must be as simple as possible without loosing representative ness of major phenomena involved; a compromise must then be achieved between accuracy and complexity.

Abstract: Abstract: - The stability of steel penstock under external pressure is a main factor of penstock design in hydroelectric station. Since the assumption conditions and the boundary conditions are simplified in the currently existing methods, the obtained computing results have low accuracy level and every method has its limitation. In this present paper, we apply artificial neural network model and improved BP algorithm to this problem with more complicated conditions and factors. By analyzing the influences on losing stability and breach for reinforcing ring steel penstock caused by diameter-to-thickness ratio of the steel tube, size and space of reinforce rings, a new research approach is obtained and test results show this method is feasible and its validity is verified. This paper provides an efficient solving path for stability problem of reinforcing ring steel penstock under external pressure. Furthermore, we use this method to Chinese Yachihe hydroelectric pow!

Abstract: The object of the present study is to investigate the dynamic of closed circuit cement mills and based on that to tune robust PID controllers applied to three actual installations. The model that has been developed, consisting of integral part, time delay and a first order filter, is based exclusively on industrial data sets collected in a period more than one year. The model parameters uncertainty is also assessed varying from 28% to 36% as the gain is concerning and 34% to 42% as regards the time delay. As significant sources of model uncertainty are determined the grinding of various cement types in the same cement mill and the decrease of the ball charge during the time. The Internal Model Control (IMC) and M - Constrained Integral Gain Optimization (MIGO) methods are utilized to adjust the controller parameters. Specially by implementing the MIGO technique robust controllers are built deriving a daily average IAE 2.3-3% of the set point value. Due to the high !
flexibility and effectiveness of MIGO, the controllers can be parameterized by taking into account the cement type ground and the power absorbed. Subsequently the attenuation of main uncertainties leads to improvement of the regulation performance.

Abstract: When an image is created by multiple authors, it is reasonable that no single author monopolize the ownership. The ownership should be shared among these authors, and the ownership should be proved by a group of authors. In this paper, we propose a joint ownership protection scheme for co-authored images. Some of the authors or all of the authors can verify ownership. This scheme integrates discrete cosine transforms and visual cryptography to meet robustness and security requirements. The experimental results show this scheme successfully resists some common attacks.

Abstract: The lattice Boltzmann method is one of the most recent simulation techniques based on molecular theory which has been found to be a very efficient numerical tool due to its capability to go deeper into the particle's domain, simulating their interaction among groups of particle and relating the parameters back to macro condition. Hence, this paper presents the simulation of lid-driven cavity for deep and shallow flow using the lattice Boltzmann method where the effect of the Reynolds number on the flow pattern at aspect ratios of 0.25, 0.5, 1.5 and 4.0 was studied. These types of flow exhibit a number of interesting physical features but are scarcely simulated using the LBM scheme. The source code was established based on the BGK model on rectangular lattice geometry. The results were then compared with the FLUENT software and were found to be in excellent agreement even with relatively coarse grids applied to the numerical calculation.

Abstract: We discuss a new approach for driving avatars using synthetic speech generated from pure text. Lip and face muscles are controlled by the information embedded in the utterance and its re-lated expressiveness. Rule-based, text-to-speech synthesis is used to generate phonetic and expression transcriptions of the text to be uttered by the avatar. Two artificial neural networks, one for text-to-phone transcription and the other for phone-to-viseme mapping have been trained from phonetic transcription data. Two fuzzy-logic engines were tuned for smoothed control of lip and face movement. Simulations have been run to test neural-fuzzy controls using a parametric speech synthesizer to generate voices and a face synthesizer to generate facial movement. Experimental results show that soft computing affords a good solution for the smoothed control of avatars during the expressive utterance of text.

Abstract: The multi-criteria decision making (MCDM)problems with fuzzy preference information on alternatives are essential problems of the importance of weighting and ranking. In order to solve this problem, Analytical Hierarchy Process(AHP) and fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method are coupled to form a new approach named Fuzzy-AHP.This method is different from the traditional FAHP,which used to facilitate the pairwise comparison process and avoid the complex and unreliable process of comparing fuzzy utilities. It utilizes the advantage of AHP on computing index weight and comparing index in the same row than at ranking and the advantage of fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method on establishing quantitative indexes membership and qualitative indexes membership and classifying level. Finally, a numerical example is presented to clarify the methodology ,the model evaluation results showed that the proposed system is able to provide very. good solution both in accuracy, and spee!

Abstract: - This proposal is based on the implementation and the development of tools to analyze the decision making indicators in the epidemiology for the ministry of the health. First, we introduced new tools of data warehouse and data mining to improve epidemiological knowledge specific to the Leishmaniasis in south of Morocco. We developed an information system to facilitate the decision-making process, access to the information and data storage in the data warehouse. We considered the density of the sandflies population when taking into account the time and climate change. We are interested in patients with suspected Leishmania infection, so we included the transmission of Leishmaniasis to humans. The concept of Data mining is used to select, to explore and to transform our epidemic data to a prediction index. In order to reduce the transmission of leishmaniasis and to control the vector density, we also suggest developing a simple mathematical model with entomological !
data in Marrakech area. This model predicts the vector density according to local conditions. Simulations have been done on actual data collected in Marrakesh city to confirm the leishmaniasis risk in this area. In this paper we review the type of decision aids which has been successfully implemented and that we have provided to the responsible of the population health to make better decisions.

Abstract: We propose in this paper a general framework for an integrated End-to-End Testing of IT Architecture and Applications using the simultaneous application of combinatorial testing and virtualization. Combinatorial testing methods are often applied in cases of the configuration testing. The combinatorial approach to software testing uses models, particularly an Orthogonal Array Testing Strategy (OATS) is proposed as a systematic, statistical way of testing pair-wise interactions to generate a minimal number of test inputs so that selected combinations of input values are covered. Virtualization, in the process of testing, is based on setting the necessary environment to multiple virtual machines, which run on one or in smaller groups of physical computers, which are: reduce the cost of equipment and related resources, reduce the time required to manage the testing process, and favors raising removal of test infrastructure. Abstract: Determining the optimal build directions is one of the most critical factors in RP processes because it affects on the build time, support structure, surface quality as well as the cost. The previous methods could handle simple parts or limited objective functions. Moreover the methods with multiple objective functions, had abstracted them into a single fitness function in which the characteristics of individual objectives could not be reflected properly. In the present work a new algorithm is presented to determine the optimal build-up directions of the part in Stereolithography systems. The algorithm can help RP users select among the optimal build-up directions. The optimization is done using Multi-Objective Genetic Algorithm (MOGA). The method proposed here handles build time, support volume and surface finish as objective functions individually. At each GA step, the surface finish is achieved applying adaptive layer thickness method and optimization algorithm !
finds the optimal build directions with minimum build time and volume support. The algorithm is developed by MATLAB. To evaluate the algorithm, several sample parts are checked.
