Abstract: The paper is focused on falling film formation on horizontal tube bundle. Backflash characteristic was measured on the experimental tube bundle. Final part of the contribution deals with the tube bundle supplemented by guide blades between individual horizontal tubes. The guide blades prevent to falling film backsplash and improve to form more uniform falling film flow over number of tubes. The experimental stand was used for testing of the horizontal tube bundle with cooper tubes in vertical adjustment. Different tube structures were tested. The heat transfer coefficient was used as major indication of falling film characteristic reflecting qualitative changes in falling film formation.

Abstract: This paper presents the parallel multicore Sobel edge algorithm which parallelizes the traditional sequential Sobel edge detection algorithm on a parallel multicore platform. Dealing with images, the algorithm inherits repetitive instructions that depend on the image size, thus may slow down the processing speed. The multicore architecture is a ready available resource on ordinary personal computer but often not fully utilized to its utmost potential. Align with this hidden opportunity, Sobel edge algorithm can be implemented on parallel programming paradigm by focusing on the thread operations. This work presents the parallel multicore Sobel edge algorithm which parallelizes the traditional sequential Sobel edge detection algorithm on a parallel multicore platform via Parallel communication software named Message Passing Interface (MPI). The test is being done on ten different images with each image tested in the varying size of 1KxK, 2KxK and 3KxK pixels. Variou!
s threads, ranging from two to ten had been performed on Duo and Quad cores. An interesting result shows that in sequential processing Duo core overcome Quad core speed. As for parallel processing, two thread is the best used for Duo core and eight threads is finest for Quad core.

Abstract: This paper copes with a design of a control for a nonlinear servomotor. Rejection disturbance algorithm is incorporated into the controller. A control based on polynomial approach is used as a suitable strategy for a rejection of the measurable disturbance. The regression output error models are used in the identification part. The parameter estimates of the process and disturbance models were computed using the least squares method extended by an adaptive directional forgetting. The controller synthesis is based on polynomial theory – pole assignment method. The designed controller was applied to a laboratory servo system Amira DR300 in real-time conditions.

Abstract: Possible reactions in a mildly reducing prebiotic atmosphere of ammonia and hydrogen cyanide produce cyanamide, its isomer carbodiimide, and formamidine. Alkynes such as diacetylene may form very weak van der Waals complexes with metal derivatives of porphin that acts as a potent photochemical catalyst. The reactants carbodiimide and the diacetylene adduct with magnesium porphin may react spontaneously to form an iminazole structure. Subsequent reaction with ammonia leads to an aziridine derivative. Prototropic shifts lead to an opening of the ring and finally an imine bound to the catalyst. Carbon monoxide gas may also bind to porphin with either the metal ion or in the form of an aziridine-2one complex. If this has been determined by the magnetic field of the exciting ultraviolet radiation to have a particular orientation and is present as a high energy compound, photochemical excitation may easily lead to the migration of the carbon monoxide from the surface o!
f the porphin ring to the imine group of the iminazole adduct. Subsequent hydrolysis gives the L-histidine which forms the zwitterion. The reactions have been shown to be feasible from the overall enthalpy changes in the ZKE approximation at the HF and MP2 /6-31G* level, and with acceptable activation energies.

Abstract: A new approach of characterization of any porous structure is presented in this paper. The method is based on creating digital images of samples employing common computer scanner and consequent image analysis operations of the scans. The procedure was used for pore size estimation of eleven samples of bread baked from dough with different ratios wheat/rye flour, and therefore with different structures of pores. The whole experiment included several steps, starting with baking the samples in accordance with the standard method, consequent drying the samples and scanning their surfaces finely covered by stamp ink. Following operations were conversion of the images to the black and white form and computer analysis on the basis of Euclidean distance map and Voronoi tessellation. The computed pore area sections were compared to a model set of data obtained from generating random cuts of a sphere with chosen diameter. Finally, to make a comparison, the pore volumes were!
calculated employing stereological equations.

As an effort for achieving the understanding of the phenomena, an electric analogue representation of the arteries and blood flow has been made, where the key part is the characteristic impedance. We present the calculations made for obtaining the characteristic impedances in different cases. The Navier-Stokes in cylindrical coordinates is used with the boundary condition, representing Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids, with a special interest in Atherosclerosis disease. Laplace transform is used as a classical method for solving the differential equation. The power of the computer algebra system is shown through this work.

Abstract: Employers are increasingly looking for graduates who can think creatively and collaborate effectively to come up with innovative solutions to complex problems. This paper presents a study on applying a pedagogical approach based on collaborative learning to a course for students from different majors. The objective of the course is to develop in students creative thinking skills in solving design problems. The results show the effectiveness of this approach in making team-learning fun for the students who are from different majors. The team projects completed were highly creative and effective and also showed the influence of their own disciplines in the solutions they came up with.

Abstract: Power quality issues are one of the most important aspects of future smart grid design and operation. The first reason is the more active consumer participation in the power sector, and the other one is the introduction of renewables, having a great impact on voltage variation because its intermittency. This paper discusses power and especially voltage quality issues in the smart grid environment. New demands that are placed in front of the distribution network by introducing the concept of Smart (Intelligent) network are presented. Through several practical examples from the distribution utilities in Serbia, a few typical problems regarding power quality, which have to be solved in a new environment are presented, together with proposed smart grid architecture and description of distribution management system functions. The need of strategic planning of smart grids is illustrated on some examples of non-compliance of laws and practices in Serbia.

Abstract: We modify a mathematical model of bone remodeling process to study the effect of time delay observed clinically in the process. We then utilize the Hopf bifurcation theorem to investigate the possibility of the occurrence of periodic behavior exhibited by our model. Numerical simulation is also carried out to support our theoretical results. Theoretical and numerical results indicate that the periodic behavior observed clinically in the pulsatile secretion of parathyroid hormone can be expected in our model.

Therefore, it is critical to educate future engineers with the knowledge and skills to succeed in the now common multinational settings. This paper describes an international collaborative learning experience among students from different institutions in the Americas through a multinational design project at an undergraduate level. The case study presented here refers to the conceptual design of an automatic machine to sort plastic bottles and aluminum cans to be used in different locations including malls, shopping centers, office buildings, and academic institutions among others. Global collaborative design imposes problems in terms of communication and information management; this project presents from an undergraduate case study, a methodological synthesis from which these problems were satisfactorily resolved, illustrating how a t!
ypical design methodology can be implemented in multinational projects, and how the participation of students in this kind of practice can contribute to gain knowledge in the global design process and in the development of professional skills such as teamwork, leadership, communication, and global awareness. The collaborative concepts involved in the development of this project were specially adapted from several cases of international cooperation set out in the automobile industry, where the mutual aid generated between the companies involved, enables the development and expansion of new technologies; therefore, the collaborative structure of this project has a special potential for implementation not only in academia, but also in enterprises with international projection and implicated in the management of collaborative-based projects.

Abstract: Using the rules of music theory, a program was written which automatically creates original compositions. These compositions were parameterized by user input concerning preferences on genre, tempo, and tonality. Based on these preferences, initial compositions were generated, and the "best" composition was presented to the user. Following the rules of music theory guarantees that the program produces harmonious compositions, but certain aspects of musical composition cannot be defined by music theory. It is in these aspects of musical composition where the human mind uses creativity. Using the population of compositions initially generated for the user, the program then used a genetic algorithm to evolve compositions that increasingly match the user's preferences, allowing the program to make decisions that cannot be made using music theory alone. The resulting "best" composition of the evolved population was then presented to the user for evaluation. To test the !
effectiveness of this approach, each composition, both initial and final was ranked by subjects on a scale from 1 to 10. Subjects expressed a significant preference for the evolved compositions over initial compositions.

Abstract: In this paper the stage-structured population model with nonlinear cannibalism terms is studied. Our approach utilizes a certain type of fuzzy systems that are based on Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy models to approximate nonlinear systems. We construct a fuzzy feedback control that permits to stabilize the system around the nontrivial equilibrium. The effort is used as a control term, the age classes as a states and the quantity of captured fish per unit of effort as a measured output. In order to stabilize the stock states around the references equilibrium, this means biologically the sustainability of the fish stock, the output feedback controller based on the T-S state observer is adopted, rather than the state feedback. We formulate an observer and a controller to stabilize globally exponentially the closed loop Takagi Sugeno (T-S) model. The continuous non-linear model is first represented by a T-S model. Next, we develop a technique for designing a dynamic output fee!
dback control law which globally stabilizes this fuzzy system model. All the procedures are based on the linear matrix inequality approach. The effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method are demonstrated with a practical example. It is shown by numerical simulations that the control law investigated permits the stability of the system around the positive equilibrium point.

Abstract: The present paper focuses over a large scale context (unit) excavated recently at the proto-historical site at Bâzdâna "La Cetate", Dolj County, Romania. This context presents it self in an inextricable connection with the erection of the burnt brick wall which fortified the western part of the site, and was covered and "sealed" by the defensive structure. After the short description of the archaeological situation, characterized by a high stratigraphic clarity, and of the typological representative artifacts, follows an analysis referring to the human and zooarchaeological remains which were comprised in the unit at the foot of the brick wall. Dated towards the end of the 4th c. BC, the context constituted in a very short span of time (at most a few days) offers an excellent opportunity to refine the ceramics typology of that period. At the same time, the artifact and osteologic remains analysis contribute to outline of an enlightening image concerning the mentali!
ties and behaviour of a revolute community. The conclusion must be that we are dealing with a foundation and consecration ceremony of the burnt brick fortification.

Abstract: Nature offers a great source of inspiration to create robust systems that can assist humans to achieve different tasks. Neuromorphic engineering is an emerging field and when it comes to create a device that could assist a blind or a visually impaired human and also replace the traditional tools like white canes or guiding dogs, this can be really challenging. Even if insects are considered inferior species in comparation with vertebrates, they poses a visual system that colud be used in such an applications. An important condition for a person to move freely in an enviroment is to be able to detect any obstacle which may interfere with the trajectory of motion in order to avoid a possible collision with that obstacle. Abstract: Abstract: - The design of miniaturized and efficient patch antennas has been a main topic of research in the past two decades. The fractal patch antennas have provided a good solution to this problem. But in fractal antennas finding the location of optimum feed point is quite difficult task. In this paper a novel method of using GRNN-GA hybrid model is presented to find the optimum feed location. The results of this hybrid model are compared with the simulation results of IE3D which are in good agreement.

Abstract: This article exposes a specific localization algorithm for Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks. Its hybrid structure is designed for 3-dimensional positioning of the multimedia sensor nodes using in-situ measurements and minimizes the error of localization by proposing an efficient trajectory estimation pattern along with a periodic calibration of the sensor nodes' coordinates. A periodic validation of the coordinates is performed by implementing a classical anchor-based localization algorithm. Providing a decreased error of localization, the suggested algorithm considerably reduces the localization delay, essential to mobile nodes, and offers an insignificant rise in network traffic as well as energy consumption throughout the positioning process. To further reduce the overall energy consumption, an adaptive sampling rate technique is proposed.

Abstract: Sterilization of mushroom growing substrates is energy intensive process for mushroom cultivation. Fuelwood may be replaced by spent substrates for hot steam generation. However, combustion of spent substrates directly in an open furnace is troublesome due to low efficiency and excessive smoke emission. Alternative conversion of the by-product to provide clean energy should be studied. In this work, recycling of spent mushroom substrates through gasification to provide heat for sterilization of substrate bags has been investigated. The findings showed that spent substrate was successfully used as biorenewable fuel in a gasifier. Satisfactory operation was obtained. Gasification of spent substrate could provide required thermal input, with clean energy to the local mushroom farm. Thermal efficiency of about 20% was achieved, compared to 5% from existing furnace. Preliminary economic analysis showed that the farm can save around $300 a month, with simple payback peri!
od to positive cash flow of less than 12 months.

Abstract: This paper presents the stability analysis via quadratic function of synchronous machine without damper. First, The non linear mathematical model for the proposed synchronous machine adopted in this work is described by T-S continuous fuzzy models. Next, the stability conditions are derived using Lyapunov functional approach. Then a stabilization approach for a system through control law for T-S fuzzy control based on PDC design is studied. The asymptotic and exponential stabilization are considered with the maximization of the convergence rate. The stability conditions of the closed loop multiple models are expressed in linear matrix inequalities (LMI) form. To optimize the degree of stability, a formulation in term of generalized eigenvalues problem (GEVP) is proposed. Simulation results show the utility of the stability analysis based on LMIs proposed in this paper.

Abstract: This paper addresses the design, prototyping and experimental validation of two different types of wheeled mobile machine, employed as service robots to assist the human. The focus is on the explanation of modeling and design procedure as well as the optimization of robot positioning during the motion along some given and unseen trajectories. Using the coordination defined for mobile robots, the equations of motion are firstly derived and then the simulation study is carried out. Using the simulation results, the robots are prototyped. Next, to overcome the positioning errors, the mobile robots are tested and moved along some given paths. The position error consists of systematic and non-systematic errors. As pointed out, the systematic errors are modified and reduced using benchmark method where the absolute measurements of errors are compared with the desired posture of robots. Specifically, the results derived from experimental analyses concede that in the mean !
error improvement was at least 83% in both CW and CCW directions. The procedure explained in this paper should therefore be considered seriously as a new tool to design the wheeled mobile robots.

Road traffic is a complex system in which wide varieties of road user, vehicle and environment interact. In the present paper a noise prediction model for urban and suburban areas is introduced. The prediction model has been developed on a testing network in the province of Cosenza. A model, based on measurements of sound levels, specific urban context, traffic flow characteristics, road network characteristics, has been defined and calibrated.

Therefore, the control of traffic noise has become a matter of major concern for communities trying to maintain a satisfact!
ory environment in which to live and work. To ensure a high quality environment, methods for prediction the urban traffic noise are necessary tools. In order to modeling traffic noise and selecting corresponding noise control measures it is necessary to know functional relationships between noise emission and certain numbers of traffic parameters. The purpose of this article is to study the situation in Cosenza (Italy) and develop a model to predict the noise based on the data collected. The result of this research will contribute to the analyze the traffic noise in urban center as well to develop a tool to help on treatments of this urban issue, allowing future decisions to reduce the noise pollution.

Abstract: The use of barcode has become a key primary technological strategy for improving healthcare service quality in general and point-of-care patient safety in particular. But will RFID eventually replace the widely adopted barcode technology for decreasing adverse medication events? This paper explores four different adoption paths for improving the medication process of an emergency department, namely full barcode implementation, full RFID implementation, migration and hybridization. Since medication errors are considered the most frequent type of adverse events occurring in hospitals, it appears rather crucial to gain a better understanding of the relative advantages and drawbacks related to each of these four adoption paths.

Abstract: The lines adequacy of the network is necessary to provide load demands when the network is expanding, because its lack caused by load interruption. In this paper, in order to take the transmission lines condition after expansion into account from the line loading view points, the adequacy of the transmission network is considered for the solution of the STNEP problem. To obtain the optimal network arrangement, a discrete particle swarm optimization (DPSO) algorithm is being used for minimizing the network construction and operational cost. The particle swarm optimization is a recently developed evolutionary algorithm based on the swarm behavior in the nature and has a strong ability to find the most optimistic results. The motivation for using the DPSO technique is to reduce design effort and find an optimum planning network. The effectiveness of the proposed idea is tested on the Garver's six-bus network and an actual transmission network of the Azerbaijan regiona!
l electric company in Iran. The evaluation results evaluation reveals that the annual worth of the network adequacy has a considerable effect on the network arrangement. In addition, the obtained network, based on the DPSO algorithm, has lower investment cost and higher adequacy rate.

Abstract: In this paper, three types of defected ground structure (DGS) units which are triangular-head (TH), rectangular-head (RH) and U-shape (US) are investigated and their characteristics are compared each other. Moreover, they are used in the design of low-pass filters (LPF) and band-pass filters (BPF) and the obtained performances of each are examined. The LPF employing RS-DGS geometry presents the advantages of compact size, low-insertion loss and wide stopband compared to the other filters. It provides cutoff frequency of 2.5 GHz, largest rejection band width of 20 dB from 2.98 to 8.76 GHz, the smallest transition region and the smallest sharpness of the cutoff frequency. The BPF based on RS-DGS has the highest bandwidth (BW) of about 0.74 GHz and the lowest center frequency of 3.24 GHz whereas the other BPFs have BW less than 0.7 GHz.

Abstract: The prediction of real estate price is important because it concerns both individuals and government. Other than traditional statistic methods, Neural networks and Support Vector Regression have demonstrated their advantages in previous research, and thus are applied and compared in this study. Variables are first summarized and concluded from earlier research and than selected by stepwise procedure and trial-and-error methods. It is found that SVR with trial-and-error method performed the best with MAPE=4.466% and R2=0.8540. In addition, Rediscount rate, Money supply, and Price of last month are the three common variables for both BPNN and SVR. The economic explanation and relations to the housing price for selected variables are also provided.

Abstract: This work defines a novel problem in which a set of modules is assigned to a set of silicon layers in order to minimize the total chip area while satisfying the characteristic constraints. An integer linear programming (ILP)-based partitioning approach is also developed to assign a set of modules to the layers of a three-dimensional architecture during a floor-planning phase. The proposed approach attempts to minimize the chip area, which is the maximum silicon layer area among the set of layers in a three-dimensional system-in-package (SIP) architecture. Moreover, the circuit properties in which the digital and analog modules not to assign to the same layer are incorporated to increase signal integrity during the partitioning stage. The optimal module assignment for the three-dimensional SIP architecture could be obtained because all the constraints in this work are linear functions. Experimental results indicate that the proposed ILP-based method can minimize the!
chip area while meeting the SIP constraints of circuit properties to reduce the potential interference of the wires in the digital and analog modules. The chip area is larger than that of the method that does not consider interference properties of modules. Importantly, the proposed ILP-based approach significantly reduces the number of the potential interference to be zero by assigning analog and digital modules to the different layers of the SIP architecture.

Abstract: Complexity of medical imagery is found as challenging problem in segmentation. This paper conducts a comparative study of Adaptive Network-Based Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS), k-Nearest Neighbors (k-NN) and Fuzzy c-Means (FCM) for brain abnormalities segmentation. The characteristics for each brain component of "membrane", "ventricles", "light abnormality" and "dark abnormality" is analyzed by extracting the minimum, maximum and mean grey level pixel values. The segmentation performances of each technique is tested to hundred and fifty controlled testing data which designed by cutting various shapes and size of various abnormalities and pasting it onto normal brain tissues. The tissues are divided into three categories of "low", "medium" and "high" based on the grey level pixel value intensities. The segmentation of light abnormalities outperformed the dark abnormalities. It was proven that the ANFIS returns the best segmentation performances in light abnormalitie!
