Abstract: :- To override the complexity of SQL, and to facilitate the manipulation of data in databases for common people (not SQL professionals), many researches have turned out to use natural language instead of SQL. The idea of using natural language instead of SQL has prompted the development of new type of processing method called Natural Language Interface to Database systems (NLIDB). The NLIDB system is actually a branch of more comprehensive method called Natural Language Processing (NLP). In general, the main objective of NLP research is to create an easy and friendly environment to interact with computers in the sense that computer usage does not require any programming language skills to access the data; only natural language (i.e. English) is required. Many systems have been developed to use the concept of NLP in different varieties of domains, for example the system LUNAR [19] and the system LADDER [8]. One drawback of previous systems is that the grammar mu!
st be tailor-made for each given database. Another drawback is that many NLP systems cover only a small domain of the English language questions. In this paper we present the design and implementation of a natural language interface to a database system. The system is called Generic Interactive Natural Language Interface to Databases (GINLIDB). It is designed by the use of UML and developed using Visual Basic.NET-2005. Our system is generic in nature given the appropriate database and knowledge base. This feature makes our system distinguishable.

Abstract: Abstract:- This paper presents the application of Multi Layer Perceptron (MLP) Artificial Neural Network to classification of handwritten Arabic words. Zernik Moments are used as a feature vector for each word. An efficient way to select the most suitable order of Zernik moments is also presented. The MLP is trained in a supervised fashion using the Back Propagation learning algorithm. Having being trained, the MLP is tested on different set of handwritten Arabic words that has never been seen by the MLP. Several experiments are performed to select the best MLP structure. Experimental results have shown that with the presented structure and the order of the Zernik Moments more than 87% of correct recognition was obtained.

Abstract: Although the offset-time-based scheme can differentiate loss rates of packets according to their QoS levels in optical burst switching networks, it also increases end-to-end delay of packets with higher QoS level. This is because it increases offset time of bursts in proportional to QoS levels of packets which are included in the bursts. In this paper, we propose a burst assembly method that reduces end-to-end delay. Our proposed method includes packets that arrive during the offset time into the currently assembled bursts while the conventional method includes them into the burst assembled next time. Simulation results show that our method offers 12–23% delay reduction for packets with the highest QoS level.

Abstract: The resource-bases view of the firms has become an important conceptual framework in strategic management but has been criticized for lack of an empirical base. A Few researchers have been able to develop measures of resources and capabilities, identify their importance in a specific industry context, and link firms¡¦ resource positions to firm performance. In this study, we examine the relationship between firms¡¦ resources and capabilities and its performance of Taiwan¡¦s IC design industry. The empirical findings are as follows. R&D resources and capabilities has negative effect on firms¡¦ performance. Marketing resources and capabilities, operation resources and capabilities, and human resources management all has positive effect on firms¡¦ performance. Physical capital resource management do not has effect on firms¡¦ performance. Abstract: Prompt diagnosis is the most reliable solution for an effective treatment of melanoma. There is an ongoing research effort to provide computer-aided imaging tools in order to support the diagnosis and early detection of malignant melanomas. The first step towards producing such a diagnosis system is the automated and accurate boundary detection of skin lesion. Therefore, the present study introduces a new, simple, and very fast algorithm that has the ability to detect effectively and automatically the border of potential melanoma. The complexity of the proposed algorithm is O(VN) and thus the execution time is dramatically minimized.

Abstract: Natural images recognition is an important area of machine vision. This paper presents a novel approach for natural images recognition, based on the non-Gaussian distribution property of natural images. In this new method for recognition, first supervised classification is conducted to the natural images based on their label value, then independent components linear transforms are conducted to each category of samples, high-dimensional data are transformed to irrelevant independent components, and finally the probability distance between independent component subspaces is used for unsupervised classification. This classification tree also shows some features of signal processing of biological optic nerve. Experiment on ORL Face Database identity recognition shows that this method is featuring high recognition rate and low time consumption; meanwhile, another experiment is conducted on direction determination of intelligent robots autonomous navigation, also produci!

Abstract: This paper generalizes the model introduced by Ferrara and Guerrini [13], where two different research lines have been joined together: the one studying the effects of incorporating technological progress in pollution abatement in the Solow-Swan model (Brock and Taylor [6]), and that analyzing the role of a logistic population growth rate within the Solow-Swan model (Ferrara and Guerrini [13]). In this framework, the economy is described by a three dimensional dynamical system, whose solution can be explicitly determined. We note that physical capital can be expressed in closed-form via Hypergeometric functions. As well, we prove the model's solution to be convergent in the log-run. We characterize the economy balanced growth path equilibrium, and find that sustainable growth occurs if technological progress in abatement is faster than technological progress in production. An environmental Kuznets curve may result along the transition to the balanced growth path. !
If there is no technological progress in abatement, then there is no EKC. Furthermore, the economy has a unique equilibrium (a node), which is locally asymptotically stable.

Abstract: The track estimation of not-cooperated target is difficult in space target tracking. Most researchers are accustomed to focusing their attention on the measurements from target itself. In a typical situation, there are one cooperated target and many not-cooperated targets. All targets can be measured by one same sensor synchronously in a common clutter environment while the cooperated target has additional accurate locating data. A new method of measurement error transfer and correction was proposed based on the supposition of error correlation. The conception, principle and technique of this method were researched. All algorithms of key procedures were built. Simulation results show that the measurement error of cooperated target can be transferred to not-cooperated target in order to correct its measurement error if the errors are from the same sensor synchronously. It is also concluded that the accuracy of measurement of the later can be improved remarkably if t!
he error correlation is high.

Abstract: The actual implementation of integrated health information systems (HIS) has always been a challenge. Implementing integrated HIS are increasingly seen as the way to achieve quality and continuity in treatment, reducing clinical errors, and supporting health care professional in providing care. With the rapid growth in popularity of integrated HIS package, an increasing number of health care sectors are making the decision to implement an integrated HIS. Integrated HIS can provide significant improvements in efficiency across an environment of health care. However, there are also hazards associated with implementation of integrated HIS. The implementation of an integrated HIS package is an enormously complex task required specific project management skills and knowledge, a lack of which often leads to projects failing to stay within budget and meet deadlines. The critical success factors for integrated HIS implementation include top management support and a clea!
r business vision, and issues specific to HIS such as implementation strategy and software configuration. However, some of the more important factors are the issues related to re-engineering business processes and the integration of various core processes to the HIS. This paper investigates the role and impact of business process management in successful integrated HIS implementation. The paper starts by defining business process management and the integrated HIS critical success factors. The impact of business process management on successful integrated HIS implementation is then assessed through looking at the experiences of several health care sectors. The paper concludes by documenting best practices for capitalizing on business process management for successful integrated HIS implementation.

Abstract: Worst severe weather brings human disasters. The useful way to decrease the national disaster is building more atmosphere sense equipments to monitor the climate¡¯s change. The data produced by these sense equipments is huge amount and plays an important role for weather prediction. Moreover, new sense equipments enrich weather data. Everyday there are terabyte and petabyte-scale data are collected. Retrieving such information requires accessing to large volumes of data, thus an efficient organization is necessary both to reduce access time and to allow efficient knowledge extraction. A new class of ¡®data grid¡¯ infrastructure is efficient to support management, transport, distributed access to, and analysis of these datasets by potentially thousands of users. Intelligent agents can play an important role in helping achieve the ¡®data grid¡¯ vision. In this paper, we present a multi-agent based framework, to implement manage, share, and query weather data in a ge!
ographical distributed environment. In each node, some services are designed for querying and accessing datasets based on agent environment. Information retrieval can be conducted either locally, by considering portions of weather data, or in a distributed scenario, by exploiting global metadata. We believe this will be a useful platform for research on weather data sharing system in a national area.

Abstract: This paper focuses on the decision-making behavior based on the complex adaptive system. Firstly, the paper reviewed the related work of the complex adaptive system and the edge of chaos in complex systems in different fields. Secondly, a general decision model of an agent is established and the condition that an agent is just at the edge of chaos is defined. Thirdly, making use of Langton¡¯s coefficient widely used in the research on cellular automata, the paper defines the edge of chaos that describes the decision behavior of agent. Finally, the paper conducts an evolutionary artificial life experiment. Then the connection between the behavior at the edge of chaos and the individual adaptability is illustrated.

Abstract: Since long time ago, ceramic insulators are widely being used in power systems. The performances of the insulators such as surface resistance and flash over voltages greatly affected by environmental conditions such as pollution and humidity. The pollution may arise in the form of fogs. A large leakage current (LC) may flow on the surface and degradation may take place. In long term the degradation may lead to the flash over of the insulators. This paper reports the experimental results on the effects of humidity and fog conductivity on leakage current characteristics of ceramics. The samples used are blocks of ceramics with dimension of 250 x 50 x 20 mm3. The samples were made from same materials for outdoor ceramic insulators. The samples were put in a test chamber with controlled humidity and artificial pollution conditions. AC voltage with frequency of 50 Hz was applied. The magnitudes as well as harmonic content of the LC were analyzed. The experimental re!
sults indicated that under clean fog, LC magnitude almost linearly increased with applied voltage at low and medium RH. At high RH, LC magnitude drastically increased compared to those of low RH. At low RH the dominant harmonics number are 5th , 3 rd and 7th with relatively large amplitude while at medium and high RH the dominant harmonic components of the LC waveforms are 5th and 3rd with smaller amplitude compared to it fundamentals resulting in smaller THD. Under fog condition, LC magnitude increase with fog conductivity. Compared to the LC magnitude under clean fog, the LC magnitude under salt fog was much higher than those from clean fog. At high fog conductivity the oscillation behaviour of LC magnitude dependence on applied voltage was observed due to the wetting effect of sample surface by the fog and drying effect caused by the higher LC. The THD of leakage current under salt fog increased with the applied voltage. LC amplitude increases with applied voltage!
and RH. LC waveforms distortion significantly decreased with the s
alt fog conductivity resulting in smaller THD. At given applied voltage the harmonic components decrease with the increase of fog conductivity.

Abstract: Least flow time priority (LFF-PRIORITY) load distribution approach was developed to deal with task size priority and task deadline priority. One of the most critical problem of this approach is that it does not consider the task interdependency. In this paper we propose a dynamically load balancing technique called INTERDEP-PRIORITY which takes into consideration the task interdependency. The testing results clearly show that approximately 70% of tasks meet their deadlines under INTERDEP-PRIORITY strategy.

Abstract: Word semantic similarity measurement is a basic research area in the fields of natural language processing, intelligent retrieval, document clustering, document classification, automatic question answering, word sense disambiguation, machine translation, etc.. To address the issues existing in current approaches to word semantic similarity measurement, such as the low term coverage and difficult update, a novel word semantic similarity measurement method based on web search engines is proposed, which exploits the information, including page count and snippets, in retrieved results to do calculation. The proposed method can resolve the issues mentioned above due to the huge volumes of information in the Web. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

Abstract: Multiprocessors have been employed as a powerful computing means for executing real-time tasks, especially where a uniprocessor system would not be sufficient to execute all the tasks. This paper investigates dynamic scheduling algorithm for real-time tasks in a multiprocessor systems to obtain a feasible solution using genetic algorithms combined with earliest deadline first (EDF) and shortest computation time first (SCTF). A comparative study of the results obtained from simulations shows that genetic algorithm can be used to schedule tasks to meet their deadlines time , in addition to obtain high processor utilization..

Abstract: This study proposed an appraisal-based emotion model that integrates emotion, cognition, satisfaction, and post adoption behavior in understanding users¡¦ continuance intention of information system (IS). Three hundred and fifty web portal site users were obtained from a survey. The paper assessed the psychometric properties of the measures through confirmatory factor analysis and then employed structural equation modeling analysis in order to examine the prospective model to better predict users¡¦ continuous adoption of IS. The results show that positive and negative emotions mediate the effect of confirmation and directly predict user satisfaction. However, perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use predict the level of user satisfaction better than emotions and perceived usefulness is the stronger predictor of user satisfaction than other variables.

Abstract: Abstract: - The paper presents a boundary element approach for the problem of the finite span airfoil in a subsonic compressible fluid flow. The singular boundary integral equation equivalent with the mathematical model characterized by partial differential equation is solved in this paper by the use of constant and linear isoparametric boundary elements of Lagrangean type. A special attention is given to the treatment of the singular integrals because their evaluation major influences the numerical solutions accuracy. Some aspects about how to treat the integrals of singular kernels in case of solving 3D problems are presented. An efficient method that is applied consists in using suitable geometrical transformations of coordinates to eliminate the singularities. A computer code based on this method is made and numerical results are obtained. The computer code is tested by making an analytical checking and the results show the efficiency of the method.

Abstract: Now-a-days medical domain is a popular area for the artificial intelligence (AI) research. Many of the early AI systems were attempted to apply rule-based reasoning in developing computer-based diagnosis system in medical domain. However, for a broad and complex medical domain the effort of applying rule-based system has encountered several problems. Today many systems are serving multi-purpose i.e. tend to support not only in diagnosis but also in number of other complex tasks and combining more than one AI techniques in the health care domain. In this paper, we will investigate the state-of-the art of case-based reasoning (CBR), a recent AI method in the medical domain. A case study in the stress medicine domain is presented here. Today stress has become a major concern in our society. The demand of the decision support system (DSS) in stress domain is increasing rapidly. However, the application of DSS in this domain is limited so far due to the weak domain th!
eory. In our on going research, we have proposed a solution analyzing the relation between stress and finger temperature using case-based reasoning and other AI techniques namely case-based reasoning, textual CBR, rule-based reasoning, and fuzzy logic to support classification and diagnosis in stress management.

Abstract: As concerns the process to traverse the macroeconomics analysis reasoning of the budgetary earnings and expenses, there shall be crossed the phases whose target consists in defining and understanding the „the balanced production" term. The issue of the consequences generated by the increase of the real quantity of money on the interest rate from the transmission mechanism point of view is by means of the monetary policy management mechanism that the National Bank shall control the money stock as an independent variable, and, consequently, shall also control the interest rate and the available income as associate variables. The multiplier modelling process can make it possible to render evident a possible interaction between the central bank and the other banks as concerns the money offer. This interaction implies an adjustment mechanism that consists in re-defining the monetary base, in re-formulating the multiplier, and in studying the money – credit relationship.

Abstract: In this paper we tried to group in three classes the companies listed without interruption for 6 years from Bucharest Stock Exchange. We used cluster analysis, namely an iterative method of clustering, the k-means algorithm. Using data results, we have made tests for the three classes of prediction using discriminant analysis. Fisher's functions have helped us to make predictions on the affiliation of a new listed company on one of the 3 classes of risk. In this study, emphasis was placed on the liquidity of companies, but also on how efficient are used the raw materials, the basic elements in the current financial crisis. This should give us a clearer picture of companies that are ready to get over this difficult time.

Abstract: In this paper we have analyzed some critical implementation factors of an ERP project implementation in universities and their interdependencies. Taking into consideration that for industry implementations there are already many performed studies we started by considering university implementations as a particular case for the industry ones. Starting from this, we have identified and analyzed differences for the case of universities regarding communication structure, management involvement, organization, implementation team competences, legacy systems, inter-department communication, user training, suppliers/ customers' partnership, external consultants. The conclusions of this study are going to be used in developing an evaluation framework of ERP solutions for higher education management.

Abstract: The aim of the study was to apply teachable agents into educational game meant for children less than 12 years of age and evaluate the outcome in context of cognitive psychology of learning. The study was done in two phases: design phase and evaluation phase (N=300). The design of the game was done in order to support relatively free use of teachable agents in an easy-to-use environment. The main findings of the study were a clear causality between quality of the taught semantic networks in game world and players' knowledge in real life and an evidence that learning away is an important feature when trying to enable conceptual change in educational games.

As the size of any combinatorial optimization problem increases, it becomes more diffi- cult to find an optimum solution using sequential algorithms. Parallelization of modern iterative heuristics has been proven to produce improved solution precision and timing. In this paper, we investigate the parallelization of Tabu Search and apply two variants of a Parallel Tabu Search (PTS) heuristic on the OSPFWS problem. It is shown through experimental results that both PTS approaches produced better solutions quality compared to the sequential heuristics; specifically for larger topologies. In one approach, we propose a new design for our parallel cooperative search algorithm, which performs better than the conventional parallel heuristic. The!
purpose of this new design is to induce diversification into the search to explore a larger search space. We also show that the new approach performs better than the conventional parallel heuristic.

Abstract: Because the target domain of data mining using decision trees usually contains a lot of data, sampling is needed. But selecting proper samples for a given decision tree algorithm is not easy, because each decision tree algorithm has its own property in generating trees and selecting appropriate samples that represent given target data set well is difficult. As the size of samples grows, the size of generated decision trees grows with some improvement in error rates. But we cannot use larger and larger samples, because it¡¯s not easy to understand large decision trees and data overfitting problem can happen. This paper suggests a progressive approach in determining a proper sample size to generate good decision trees with respect to generated tree size and accuracy. Experiments with two representative decision tree algorithms, CART and C4.5 show very promising results.

Abstract: The explosion of the web has led to a situation where a majority of the traffic on the Internet is web related. Today, practically all of the popular web sites arc served from single locations. This necessitates frequent long distance network transfers of data (potentially repeatedly) which results in a high response time for users, and is wasteful of the available network bandwidth. This paper presents a new approach to web replication, where each of the replicas resides in a different part of the network, and the browser is automatically and transparently directed to the ¡§best¡¨ server. This paper presents a transnational hierarchical global patch consistent model called THGPCM (Transnational Hierarchical Global Patch Consistent Model). Improving the OPDS (Original Patching Data Source) enabled network equipments, capable of updating patch parameter that existed in enterprise with specified OPDS partially dependency relationships. Apply scenario can reduce the g!
lobal patch service cost of transnational enterprise network equipments and minimum the turnaround time of patch service delay.

This approach longs for to improve the performance of the orbit estimation process and, at the same time, to minimize the computational procedure cost. Perturbations due to high order geopotential and direct solar radiation pressure were taken into account. The position of the GPS antenna on the satellite body that, lately, consists of the influence of the satellite attitude motion in the orbit determination process, was also considered. An application has been done, using real data from the Topex/Poseidon satellite, whose ephemeris were available. Abstract: Machine Learning is a computational methodology that provides automatic means of improving programmed tasks from experience. As a subfield of Machine Learning, Grammatical Inference (GI) attempts to learn structural models, such as grammars, from diverse data patterns, such as speech, artificial and natural languages, sequences provided by bioinformatics databases, amongst others. Here we are interested in identifying artificial languages from sets of positive and eventually negative samples of sentences. The present research intends to evaluate the effectiveness and usefulness of grammatical inference (GI) in control systems. The ultimate far-reaching goal addresses the issue of robots for self-assembly purposes. At least two benefits are to be drawn. First, on the epistemological level, it unifies two apparently distinct scientific communities, namely formal languages theory and robot control communities. Second, on the technological level, blending research from!
both fields results in the appearance of a richer community, as has been proven by the emergence of many multidisciplinary fields. Can we integrate diversified works dealing with robotic self-assembly while concentrating on grammars as an alternative control methodology? Our aim is to answer positively this central question. As far as this paper is concerned, we set out the broad methodological lines of the research while stressing the integration of these different approaches into one single unifying entity.

Abstract: MEMS-based storage is being developed as a new storage media due to its salient characteristics such as high-parallelism, high density, and low-power consumption. Because physical structures of MEMS-based storage is different from those of hard disks, new software management techniques for MEMS-based storage are needed. Specifically, MEMS-based storage has thousands of parallel-activating heads, which requires parallelism-aware request scheduling algorithms to maximize the performance of the storage media. In this paper, we compare various versions of I/O scheduling algorithms that exploit high-parallelism of MEMS-based storage devices. Trace-driven simulations show that parallelism-aware algorithms can be effectively used for high capacity mass storage servers because they perform better than other algorithms in terms of the average response time when the workload intensity becomes heavy.

Abstract: The idea of the present paper is to study the swing-by maneuver between one of the planets of the Solar System and a cloud of particles. This is what happens when a fragmented comet crosses the orbit of a planet like Jupiter, Saturn, etc. We used the dynamical system that is formed by two main bodies (the Sun and one of the planets of the Solar System) and we assumed that they are in circular orbits around their center of mass and a cloud of particles is moving under the gravitational attraction of these two primaries. The motion is assumed to be planar for all the particles and the dynamics given by the "patched-conic" approximation is used, which means that a series of two-body problems are used to generate analytical equations that describe the problem. The main obejctive is to understand the change of the orbit of this cloud of particles after the close approach with the planet. It is assumed that all the particles that belong to the cloud have semi-major axis !
a ± da and eccentricity e ± de before the close approach with the planet. It is desired to known those values after the close approach. In particular, we will study the effects of the periapsis distance in this maneuver.

Abstract: An orbital maneuver is an important phase of a space mission. The idea is to change the orbit of a spacecraft, in order to be able to complete the mission goals required. It can be done to insert a spacecraft in its nominal orbit or during the mission to compensate undesired effects of perturbations. To perform the orbital maneuvers, a software that calculates an optimal maneuver is developed. This method will be used as a reference for comparison and analises of the suboptimal methods to be used on board. This method id based on an analytical development that generate equations that can be computed in a shorter time, allowing real time applications. In all the simulations, low thrust is used to make the maneuvers.

Abstract: The development cycle of a decision support system involves many resources, time and high cost and above all, the database schema used in the system is built only for some specific tasks. So, a relational database schema or a data warehouse prototype cannot be easily mapped and reused in multiple DSS projects. In this paper we propose an object-oriented (OO) approach and an OO database schema to accomplish the DSS implementation which require a multidimensional modeling at the conceptual level using fundamental concepts of OO (class, attribute, method, object, polymorphism, inheritance, hierarchy) to represent all multidimensional properties of a data warehouse, at both the structural and dynamic levels.

Abstract: Developing Decision Support Systems in public institutions such as the National Power Grid Companies require applying very efficient methods in order to support the decisions. The decision support system in the National Power Grid Companies can integrate the energy prediction achieved by some data mining algorithms that help managers to fundament their investment decisions in order to justify the financial feasibility. This is done by estimating all the benefits and costs during the life cycle. In order to estimate the revenues, we need to know with certain accuracy the output of these power plants. Due to the fact that the wind speed significantly fluctuates even during a day at the same location, the wind power output is difficult to be forecasted by statistical methods. In this paper we apply the data mining techniques on the available measured weather data in order to predict the wind power output and determine the financial feasibility of investment.

Abstract: Structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain is an increasingly useful tool in the study of neurodegenerative diseases. MRI is currently the fastest developing medical imaging modality which is applied to an increasingly number of different medical diagnostic situations. Serial acquisition structural images of a subject’s brain are acquired over time offers opportunities to monitor the progression of tissue volume changes in fine detail at all anatomical locations. As a result, the analysis of structural MRI data has been an active area of image analysis research for many years especially in early diagnosis, tracking of disease progression, which makes it possible to investigate how, for instance, a patient responds to treatment. The aim of the paper is to investigate and analyze brain tissue changes in Alzheimer’s disease using non-rigid medical image registration and statistical analysis techniques. In our proposed approach, first the source and t!
he target images are affinely registered to correct global differences between the images and then non-rigid registration based on free-form deformation using B-spline approximation is performed on the images. The resulting displacement values from the non-rigid registration are further investigated for deformation in the entire brain to detect typical deformation patterns. Finally, statistical method namely t-test is performed for analysis of the results. The initial results indicate that the tissue volume change in the brain occurs predominantly in the hippocampus of the brain.
