Abstract: The quality of teaching and research activities in Universities are somehow related to the quality of the spaces where they take place, either when considering the buildings' facilities, or when taking into account the campus landscape. Some authors have concluded that the students' perception of their overall academic experience and the campus environment is related to academic accomplishment and success. Furthermore, keeping and increasing the quality of life in public spaces are also recognised as critical aspects concerning the urban sustainable development perspective. In that context, and when analysing characteristics, form, dimension and organisation of university campi, it can be concluded that they can be seen as urban spaces. Also, this fact is often enhanced due to their location: in urban areas or even merged in the city. In this context, based on concepts for urban spaces, a multi-dimensional evaluation model of the quality of life in campus is presen!
ted in this paper. Its main purpose is to provide conceptual bases for the implementation of a decision support system that evaluates the global index of the Quality of Life in the Campus (QlC). The process integrates users' perception and provides the ability to assess the impact of future interventions on the campus quality of life using scenarios. Those scenarios will express the changes in QlC through subsequent indicators values and global index update. The assessment of the QlC variation that would result from the scenario execution will serve as a decision support tool for campus management when studying several possibilities. The case study presented explores and shows the web based information system for monitoring the QlC of the Gualtar Campus of the University of Minho, located in Braga, Portugal. Basically, the model aims at determining a QlC variation and by comparing different moments in time. The system embodies two main functions related to its sustainable d!
evelopment process: (i) to inform the community, allowing any user to
know which are the considered indicators and their actual values, and how the QlC has evolved; (ii) to serve as a decision support tool, mainly in facilities planning and management, allowing to compare the impact of several scenarios on several quality of life dimensions, through an evaluation that integrates the users' perception.

Abstract: Water supply systems are a structural part of public utilities and as such are vital to the general well-being, public health, safe drinking water use, economic activities and environment protection. The principal objective of regulation is to protect the interests of users by fostering quality in the services provided by utilities and ensuring a fair balance in the charges levied, guaranteeing the essentiality, equity, indispensability, feasibility and cost-effectiveness principles. The use of performance indicators is widely recommended as a measure of the utility's effectiveness and efficiency. In Portugal, the regulation of service quality is conducted by ERSAR (Portuguese Authority for the Regulation of Water and Waste), which has decided to define its own set of performance indicators that is less comprehensive than those adopted by the IWA (International Water Association). Currently, the adopted system does not provide a quantitative and integrated evaluat!
ion leading to an overall ranking of utilities' performance and sustainability. The aim of this paper is to contribute for the improvement of the Portuguese performance assessment system, through the development and application of a complementary methodology to define a global index of service quality (GISEQ) for a given water supplier in order to achieve accurate performance rates. This methodology allows a truly quantitative evaluation in which each performance indicator represents a criterion to be considered and judiciously weighted, based on the results of an on-line questionnaire proposed to a selected set of academic and professional experts. The GISEQ values are calculated as a weighted linear combination of the normalised scores of each performance indicator, which is one of the most common aggregation procedures available in the context of multicriteria evaluation. The criteria normalisation process essentially based on fuzzy sets defined for each indicator, consi!
dering the established ERSAR or legislation standards. An innovative a
pproach to weights definition was also performed as well as a sensitivity analysis of GISEQ values to different weighting methods.

Abstract: In this paper we propose a method for identification of two parameters that define the structure of lubricated journal bearings. In rotordynamics literature these parameters are named $\textit{Sommerfeld number}$ and $\textit{Mass Number}$, respectively. The system analyzed belongs to the class of systems that are described by $n$ nonlinear second order differential equations. We have obtained the analytical solutions of these equations using Lie series expansion. This method can be applied to a vast class of dynamical systems, provided that they are described by smooth equations. Lie series expansion is a mathematical tool that allows us to obtain the system response in recursive way using symbolic PC-codes. Besides, this procedure involves only a few experimental data and makes the identification process very quick. It is worth noting that the application that we propose does not take into account neither the issue connected to experimental data noise nor the una!
voidable disturbances that occurs in measurement process. Actually, in applied system identification one must always pay attention to the signal noise and to the robustness of the solution with respect to disturbances, but these issues are over the goal of this paper.

Title of the Paper: Incremental Singular Value Decomposition for Managing Dynamic Collections of Semantic Semi-structured Documents

Email addresses of all the authors:
Number of paper pages: 12
Abstract: The number of XML documents has been increasing as electronic document systems adopt XML as the standard format for document exchange. Like the weather, XML document databases are always changing. Information is constantly added or removed, meaning that catalogs and indexes become obsolete or incomplete, sometimes in a matter of seconds. With the tremendous increase in online information, the dynamic update of XML documents has become critical for efficient document organization and navigation and for the retrieval of large quantities of XML documents. XML documents can be modeled as a matrix, and a user¡¦s query and update of an XML database can be represented as a vector. Relevant XML documents in the XML database are then identified via vector operations. In the latent semantic indexing (LSI) model, LSI is used to recompute the singular value decomposition (SVD) of the new path-by-document matrix. This procedure is very costly in time and space for large XML do!
cument databases. This paper proposes a new method of folding-in combined with SVD updating. The folding¡Vupdating method offers a significant improvement in computation time compared with either recomputing or updating the thin SVD in practical operations. The folding¡Vupdating hybrid method applied to the thin SVD offers a significant reduction in CPU execution time and an increase in querying precision compared to either economic SVD or the original SVD. This is also true for the conventional methods of folding, updating, and recomputing the thin SVD.

Abstract: Alkynes such as ethyne and propyne form weak charge-transfer, į2 -alkynyl complexes with surface catalysts such as Mg.porphin in which the alkynyl group is positively charged and the porphin has a negative charge. The enthalpy changes are -0.018 and -0.002 h, respectively. Addition of ammonia to the complexes allows the formation of Mg.2-amino ethenyl.porphin and Mg.2-amino propenyl.porphin with small enthalpy changes. and subsequent cyclic formation to Mg.1H aziridin-2yl.porphin and Mg. 2-methyl 1H aziridin-3yl.porphin complexes. The former may undergo a prototropic ring opening to form the imino precursor to the amino-acid alanine. Both complexes undergo ring opening with hydroxide anion to give the imine precursors to the amino-acids, serine and threonine. where the activation energies and enthalpy changes are, respectively, 0.072 h and -0.159h, and 0.072 h and -0.167 h. This mechanism constitutes another method for the formation of reactive, and!
unstable, imines that could facilitate the formation of aziridine-2ones, which have been predicated as important in amino acid synthesis. The reactions have been shown to be feasible from the overall enthalpy changes in the ZKE approximation at the HF and MP2 /6-31G* level.

Abstract: The amount of XML data is increasing as electronic document systems adopt XML as the standard format in document exchange. With the marked increase in amount of online information, XML document clustering is playing a critical role in efficient document organization, navigation, and retrieval of large numbers of documents. A great deal of active research is being conducted on XML document clustering to facilitate efficient analysis of the information represented in XML documents. Clustering an XML document collection involves dealing with many ambiguous categories. A cluster, i.e., a set of XML document groups, depends on the chosen clustering algorithm as well as on the algorithm¡¦s parameter settings. To find the best among several clustering results, it is common practice to evaluate their internal structures with a cluster validity measure. Clustering is considered useful if particular structural properties are well developed. Nevertheless, the presence !
of certain structural properties may not guarantee usefulness from the standpoint of information retrieval, e.g., whether the found XML document groups resemble the classification of a human editor. Based on already classified XML document collections, we performed clustering and compared the predicted quality of these clusters to their real quality. Our analysis included the classical cluster validity measures, modified Bezdek (abbreviated as MB) and proposed modified Davies¡VBouldin (abbreviated as MDB). MDB was more accurate than was the Dunn measure. In addition, the new within-group variance (WGV)/ between-group variance (BGV) measure, which combines the distance measure with the ƒÝ membership within the cluster, showed results superior to those for MB and MDB.

Abstract: Asymmetric fingerprinting has appeared as a technique for copyright protection, where the honest merchant can trace the traitor by means of the embedded fingerprint and the innocent customer is immune of being framed due to the asymmetric property of the fingerprinting. However, existing schemes are inefficient in practice for their high bandwidth usage. In this paper, we propose a new asymmetric fingerprinting scheme which is efficient from the bandwidth point of view. We reduce the bandwidth usage in two aspects. First, symmetric encryption along with a partial encryption algorithm instead of public-key encryption is performed on the media content, which can reduce the complexity and not expand the size of the ciphertext too much. Second, multicast that is an efficient transport technology for one-to-many communication is exploited to transmit the multimedia data, which can reduce the bandwidth usage significantly.

Abstract: The efficient storage of medical knowledge is critical for the advancement of medicine; a flexible platform for the storage of knowledge is the need of the hour. Therefore, this work focuses on clinical pathways¡Xtools that effectively maintain the quality and control the cost of medicine¡Xto formulate a model for knowledge storage. In this work, ontology was employed as the fundamental theory to facilitate the construction of a flexible system. Using task and domain ontologies, clinical pathway knowledge becomes more accessible, as domain and operation knowledge are available separately. Moreover, taking into account the continued refinement of clinical pathways, this work developed cost-effective and quality health care systems, using quartile and variance computations to identify problematic treatments and pathways and to refine decision support systems. Abstract: Wireless sensor networks are often composed of large number of wireless sensor nodes that are mostly using battery supplies. Nodes are small and equipped with sensors that cooperatively monitor physical world. Communication, sensing and computing have the most influence on performance and power consumption of wireless sensor networks. Various optimization methods are used to decrease power consumption and improve performance of wireless sensor networks. One of the novel methods is cross-layer approach. In this paper, first we present the advantages of cross-layer approach. The articles that are using a cross-layer approach for improving performance and energy preservation in wireless sensor networks are reviewed and state of the art is presented. In their work, scientists propose various optimization methods that are improving performance and decreasing power consumption. One of the fundamental problems is how to systematically make the performance evaluation and g!
et the real contribution of these proposed optimization methods. In this paper, we develop benchmark methodology and performance evaluation model of various optimization methods for wireless sensor networks. Furthermore, we present the benchmark application for collecting and comparing performance measurement results of various optimization methods.

Abstract: This paper presents a new coding scheme, called Triple-Star, for tolerating triple disk failures in Redundant Arrays of Inexpensive Disks (RAID) architecture. The size of the information part is nxn, the size of the parity-check part is nx3, and the minimum distance is 4, where n is the number of information disks, the number of parity-check disks is 3, and (n+1) is a prime integer. The code rate is R=n/(n+3) and the Maximum Distance Separable (MDS) property is proved. The key novelty in the presented scheme is that it has optimal encoding and lower decoding complexity. There need to be 3-3/n XOR operations per data symbol for encoding and 3n2+3n-11 XOR operations in total for decoding triple information disk failures.

Abstract: A test items knowledge library system of for adaptive learning is proposed in this paper. The first step is to carry out the quantity and quality analysis of the test items by using the Bloom¡¦s revised taxonomy and scale anchoring respectively to produce the characteristics for test items. A smoothing method of arbitrary anchoring revised from scale anchoring is first proposed to make tests more accurate in distinguishing test levels. In addition, raised three dimensional indicators based on the Bloom¡¦s revised taxonomy are adopted to validate test contents and therefore it concretely describes the examining function of items. The items obtained have the precise and concrete properties; an item knowledge library is therefore constructed combining teaching materials and items using the technologies of ontology and knowledge management. Finally, a knowledge library system of test items is established to achieve the purpose of adaptive learning for learners. Three !
conclusions are illustrated as follows: smoothing method of arbitrary anchoring can more precisely represent the items¡¦ levels and indicates item¡¦s difficultness as well as the tester¡¦s ability of passing the test; the three dimensional models can concretely describe the specific characteristics of the test: items from instructional content, knowledge classification, classification of cognitive process; the test items of knowledge library system could provide references for teachers doing proposition and give students a better adaptive learning environment.

Abstract: Contrast is perhaps one of the most noticeable aspects of an image. This paper proposes a hybrid method for improving the contrast in an image. It describes the application of fuzzy measure to the maximization of fuzzy entropy in the combined fuzzy contrast (CFC), resulting in a much improved contrast. The proposed method is tested on various fingerprint images. The results have shown a significant improvement on both strong and weak edges compared to common edge detection algorithms.

Abstract: The conception by some that the quintic equation is impossible to solve in radicals is revisited. A special case of this equation, the Bring-Jerrard quintic equation, is investigated for a formula. The equation is first transformed into a differential equation, making it possible to access through the Lie theoretical symmetry group method. A slight modification is introduced to the method to enhance it a little. In addition to the numerous applications and side-effects, a numerical experiment is conducted to test the the extent to which the modification can be useful.

Abstract: Low encoding/decoding complexity is essential for practical RAID-6 storage systems. In this paper, we describe a new coding scheme, which we call Rotary-code, for RAID-6 disk arrays. We construct Rotary-code based on a bit matrix-vector product similar to the Reed-Solomon coding, and provide the geometry encoding method and detailed non-recursive decoding algorithms. The capability of two-disk fault-tolerance and the property of Maximum Distance Separable (MDS) are proved in Rotary-code. The key novelty in Rotary-code is that the Rotary-code has optimal encoding complexity and optimal decoding complexity comparing with existing RAID-6 codes.

Abstract: We consider a system consisting of elastic layer made of a transversely isotropic material bonded to an elastic half-space made of a different transversely isotropic material. An arbitrary tangential displacement is prescribed over a domain S of the layer, while the rest of the layer's surface is stress-free. The tangential contact problem consists of finding a complete field of stresses and displacements in this system. The Generalized Images method developed by the author is used to get an elementary solution to the problem. It is also shown that an integral transform can be interpreted as a sum of generalized images. The case of a circular domain of contact is considered in detail. The results are valid for the case of isotropy as well.

Abstract: Estuaries and coastal lagoons are commonly subjected to intensive anthropogenic stress due to massive pollutant loading from urbanised riparian areas. Nutrient enrichment is a key-factor for habitat degradation, leading to sensible structural changes in estuarine ecosystems with the consequent occurrence of eutrophication processes. The influence of hydrodynamics must not be neglected on estuarine eutrophication vulnerability assessment. In fact, flushing time affects the transport and the permanence of water and its constituents inside an estuary, so the increase of estuarine flushing capacity can be seen as a management measure to mitigate or to invert eutrophication processes, like the one observed in the Mondego River estuary (Portugal), during the last two decades. In this work, an integrated 2-DH water quality model was applied to calculate water residence time values, at different simulated management scenarios of the Mondego estuary. The results of the perf!
ormed simulations illustrate the strong asymmetry of flood and ebb duration time at the inner sections of this estuary, a key-parameter for a correct tidal flow estimation, as the major driving force of the southern arm flushing capacity, as well as a spatial and temporal variability of calculated RT values. The conclusions of this work confirm the crucial influence of hydrodynamics on estuarine water quality status and the usefulness of this hydroinformatic tool as contribution to support the design of a sustainable management plan, based on nutrient loads reduction and hydrodynamic circulation improvement. So, the proposed methodology, integrating hydrodynamics and water quality, constitutes a powerful hydroinformatic tool for enhancing estuarine eutrophication vulnerability assessment, in order to contribute for better water quality management practices and to achieve a true sustainable development.

Abstract: The study aims at investigating the role of the genetic and socioeconomic factors on the core temperature as a measure of psychological stress impact on thermoregulation, taking into account the involvement of the hypothalamus on thermoregulation and psychological stress. I studied a number of 203 school pupils from the two secondary schools of the city of Sibiu (no. 6 and 21), personally investigated by measuring the ear drum temperature and by applying a questionnaire. I measured the ear drum temperature during two different periods of time, on the first day after vacation, seen as a normal activity period of time and during knowledge evaluation period of time, of maximum stress. The conclusion of my study was that psychical stress, as a result of knowledge evaluation, determines the decrease of the core temperature, observed through the ear drum temperature.

Abstract: The paper deals with an assessment procedure of the maximal electromagnetic field values related to urban power substation. Assessment of maximal electromagnetic field values from urban power substations are of great interest for both power utilities and the general public. This work provides an assessment procedure for the maximal magnetic field values from urban power substations based on a limited number of measured values, thus reducing the required measurement effort. The technique used in this work comprises the multiquadric approximation of a field quantity obtained using the discrete measured data set. The approximation sufficiently handles multidimensional multiextreme functions by interpolating their discrete values accurately. Subsequently, the maximal value of a field quantity is evaluated by minimizing the negative multiquadric approximation via a stochastic optimization method - differential evolution. Therefore, the implemented procedure provides the!
maximal value assessment on the basis of a limited number of measured values, thus reducing the experimental cost. Moreover, measurement results of ELF magnetic fields produced by urban power substation are analysed for better understanding of the influence of various field sources.

Abstract: Abstract: - In this paper, optimum single input Fuzzy Proportional Integral controller for dc to ac converter is presented. Contrary to conventional Fuzzy controllers, the proposed controller exhibits fewer numbers of rules and tuning parameters but capable to perform identically as the conventional. These lead to simpler design and optimum control performance. The controller is designed to be as PI controller for small-signal disturbances while for optimum large-signal performance, heuristic tuning is employed. The tuning is easy because one need only to tune two tuning parameters. To validate the optimum design, the proposed controller is applied to regulate a dc to ac converter. The system is simulated and hardware prototype is developed for comparison purposes.

Abstract: An Adaptive Quantum-based Multi-criterion Evolutionary Algorithm called AQMEA is a new paradigm of decision making for complex systems. Quantum-based algorithms utilize a new representation for the smallest unit of information, called a Q-bit, for the probabilistic representation that is based on the concept of qubits. Evolutionary computing with Q-bit chromosomes has a better characteristic of population diversity than other representations, since it can represent linear superposition of states probabilistically. Moreover, we consider the three-criterion problem of task assignment.

Abstract: The predicted effects of climate change on regions with fragile ecosystems and high dependency on natural resources, such as the Mediterranean basin, call for an improved and holistic resource management Such a holistic approach would be enriched by the inclusion of the perceptions of the appropriators and the decision makers. The aim of this study is to identify the linkage between perceptions and water management at individual level, focusing on the case of Cyprus, an island characterised by strict top-down hierarchies and intense water shortage problems. To realise the aim, 20 in-depth interviews were conducted with students of the University of Cyprus and locals of Panagia, a village adjacent to a protected area. Additionally, empirical results were obtained by experimental techniques employed by the authors. As such a policy experiment on irrigation in the above mentioned locations was conducted and used as a triangulation means. The preliminary results illus!
trate that the perceptions of the sample differ substantially. These differences shape to a large extend the way water is managed by individuals but also the notion of water management as a whole.

Abstract: Multiway Decision Graphs (MDGs) are a canonical representation of a subset of many-sorted first-order logic. It generalizes classical Binary Decision Diagrams (BDD's) with abstract data and uninterpreted functions. The original specification language of the MDG tool is called $\mathcal{L}_{MDG}$ that provides temporal operators and abstract data types to formalize properties. Meanwhile, the Property Specification Language (PSL) has a rich temporal operators but without abstract data types. In this paper, we propose a new specification language called Abstract Property Language (APL) suitable for the MDG model checking. This language replaces the $\mathcal{L}_{MDG}$ language of the MDG tool and introduces new operators borrowed from PSL to improve expressiveness. We provide the formal definition of this language in terms of BNF grammar format and formal semantics. APL is associated with a front-end translator that accepts APL specifications and builds veri!
fication-ready models to be handled by the MDG verification tool. Finally, experimental results are presented to show the performance of the APL-Tool and the analysis of the generated code executed on several test benches including Look-Aside Interface design.

Abstract: Conceptual design of flat-plate collector (FPC) with integrated solar-powered pump (SPP) has been carried out. SPP represents simple heat engine - membrane pump operating through alternating of processes of evaporation and condensation in its working chamber. It should provide circulation of water using part of absorbed by FPC heat returning it finally to the same heat carrier. Two basic versions of structural layout of FPC have been considered: the first - with flow-through absorber (with circulation of water through riser pipes welded to absorbing plate) and the second – with absorber with gravity-assisted heat pipes (GAHPs). Important role of proper organization of boiling heat transfer on downward-facing heating surface of working chamber, in terms of efficient operation of SPP, is stated. Thermo-hydrodynamic peculiarities of this process are considered. The ways of improvement of reliability and efficiency of SPP are outlined.

Abstract: Ant System (AS) was the first Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) algorithm, which converged too slowly and consumed huge computation. Ant Colony System (ACS) which converged rapidly was developed to overcome the backwards of AS, but it was in early stagnation usually. A novel algorithm Simple Hybrid Ant System (SHAS) which hybridizes the AS and the ACS was introduced in this paper. Experiments for Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP) showed that better solutions were obtained at the same time when the convergence rate accelerated rapidly

Title of the Paper: Turbo-Generator Vibration Fault Diagnosis Based on PSO-BP Neural Networks
Authors as they appear in the Paper: Youpeng Zhang,Hongsheng Su
Email addresses of all the authors: shsen@163.com
Number of paper pages: 11
Abstract: To overcome the flaws of traditional BP learning algorithm of its low convergence speed and easy falling into local extremum during turbo-generator vibration faults diagnosis, a novel algorithm called PSO-BP is proposed for artificial neural network (ANN) learning based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) in this paper. The algorithm covers the two phases. Firstly, PSO algorithm is applied to optimize the weight values of neural networks based on training samples. BP algorithm is then applied for farther optimization based on verifying samples till the best weight values are achieved. In addition, to simplify the structure of the networks, rough set theory (RST) is applied to implement the attributes reduction from the diagnostic decision table quantified by Kohonen networks. Thus the learning speed and the misjudgment rate of the diagnostic networks are improved, dramatically. Finally, the trials in turbo-generator vibration faults diagnosis indicate that the pro!
posed method possesses better forecasting accuracy and lower misjudgment rate, and is an ideal pattern classifier.

Abstract: Abstract:- This paper proposes a novel approach for solving economic load dispatch (ELD) problem by using particle swarm optimization (PSO) method. The objective of the proposed method is to reduce the cost of generation. The PSO method was developed through the simulation of a simplified social system and has been found to be robust in solving continuous nonlinear optimization problems in terms of accuracy of the solution and computation time and it can out perform other algorithms. The proposed method was applied for solving three unit & six unit plant systems. The performance of the method is compared with the lambda-iterative method and was found indeed capable of obtaining higher quality solutions efficiently for ELD problems within less computation time.

Abstract: The paper aims at calculation of fuel cost & NOx emission based on multi objective optimization of two objective functions. Method has obtained multi objective evaluation together with economic & emission based load dispatch. The effect of applying weights with respect to cost & emission objectives, along with constraints of power generation limits & power balance equations are solved. Proposed method has tested a sample test system for two objectives also. Results obtained are in close comparison to those of fuzzy set theory strategy, based on the non inferior solution by the fuzzy set theory using the approximate Newton Raphson function method for short range hydro thermal objective. Paper has dealt with solution methodology as well as comparison with already established methods. Paper has successfully solved the multi objective problem with weighting method.

Abstract: In Power Systems, distribution networks really spend amount of power loss . To reduce the power loss there are some solutions such as upgrading networks, setting capacitors at some places in networks, etc. This paper is concentrated on re-configuring networks to reduce power loss. This means looking for a optimal configuration to operate the distribution system. This paper presents a new method which applies an artificial bee colony algorithm (ABC) for determining the sectionalizing switch to be operated in order to solve the distribution system loss minimization problem. To demonstrate the validity of the proposed algorithm, computer simulations are carried out on 14, 33 bus systems and compared with different approaches available in the literature

Abstract: With the increased funding from various agencies, research conducted in the field of mobile robotics has significantly increased during the last couple of decades. Due to wide range of applications mobile robots of different sizes and capabilities are required in the field. Despite the wide spectrum of applications to be developed for mobile robots, available platforms on the market for research purposes are very few in number, and limited in their capability for multi-purpose use. Evidently purchasing new platforms for different applications is not a feasible solution for conducting research. Driven by the motive of having a configurable research platform, a mobile robot referred to as CoMoRAT (Configurable Mobile Robot for All Terrain Applications) has been designed and manufactured at METU. CoMoRAT can be driven by wheels, tracks or both. Besides its ability to ride effectively on various terrains, robot body is designed in such a way that adding new hardware to!
the platform requires minimal manufacturing and installation effort. This paper presents the design and construction details as well as the performance tests conducted on CoMoRAT.

Title of the Paper: The use of linear parametric smoothed curve Path planning for mobile robots

Number of paper pages: 12
Abstract: In this present work we present a linear parametric smoothed curve characteristic navigation approach of autonomous mobile robots. The proposed linear parametric curves of navigation are used for path planning where the smoothness of the trajectory around the control point is taken into account. The proposed method starts from an initial point to a target point establishing a control points for which connections are made to determine the form of the path. This algorithm provides the robot the possibility to move from the initial position to the final position (target). The robot moves within the unknown environment by sensing and avoiding the obstacles coming across its way towards the target. The obtained path is the shortest path from all possible free trajectories. This optimality is ensured by using the simulated annealing technique. The Simulation results show that the algorithm generates smooth, optimal path for the robot and the robot always successfully rea!
ches the target. The proposed algorithm can deal with any shape obstacles even if it is the case of circular obstacles. This case is the hardest one in any navigation problem. The problem is solved by proposing some useful solutions for each situation. For any proposed environment, the robot succeeds to reach its target without collisions. The results are satisfactory to see the great number of environments treated. The results are satisfactory and promising for next developments and more design.

Abstract: phenology has emerged recently as an important focus for ecological research .The research has performed in selected plots of Guilan Province, in the North of Iran. The each selected plot area is one hectare. We selected 6 plots of hornbeam trees from 480 to 1170 meters above sea level were determined in mountainous region .This study was performed on different altitudes and different aspects .the six sample plots were selected in study area. Phenological studies were fulfilled during four years as from January 2003 to December 2006 trees by using ground observations and IRS1C/1D - LISS-IIÉ data in each plot. The statistical analysis One (Way-ANOVA) showed that there were significant differences between the phonological characteristics in respect to the different site physiographical characteristics. Furthermore there were significant negative correlation between average precipitation and average air temperature and there of the phonological characteristics. The co!
rrelation between average air temperature and leaf mature and fall date was significantly negative .Appearance of flowers has usually been begun in this species at the same time of Leaf appearance and from its beside, in such as a way that it continues as from the first of the third week of April and will continue up to first week of May. Leaves in this species complete usually 15 to 20 days after germination .Fruits mostly become ripe about 70 days after appearance meaning as from the first of the second week of November up to the end of the third week. Leaves in this species begin to fall as from the beginning of the fourth week of November and will continue up to the end of first week of December and sometimes up to the end of the first half of the December, too. The green-up of vegetation has advanced in the spring by 1.2 days yr_1 and the dormancy delayed in autumn by 0.6 days yr_1.The results show that over the study period, the growing season duration has lengthened !
by 1.8 days yr_1 in study region.

Abstract: The NW-trending Hatta Shear Zone was formed in the Late Cretaceous during the emplacement of the Tethyan rocks and oceanic crust on the eastern margin of the Arabian plate. The western end of this shear zone is draped over by the Campanian-Lower Eocene carbonate rocks. These rocks were thrusted and folded later during the Tertiary Alpine deformation event. The folds are represented by two large plunging, asymmetrical NW-oriented anticlines that are interveined with a middle box-shape syncline, in addition to, four small NE and E-W trending folds. The syncline is characterized by a 3-segmented z-shape, as separated by the two bends; one of them is occupied by NE-oriented folds while the other is occupied by E-W oriented folds. The origin of this syncline may be controlled by the displacement over NW-trending, NE-dipping en echelon thrust faults bounding it. The estimated E-W regional compressive stress that initially accompanied the Cretaceous rock emplacement was l!
ocally adopted in later stages to NE-SW orientation. This deformation took place synchronous to deposition in three stages. It is commenced during the Campanian-Late Maastrichtian and renewed in Early Paleocene and in post Early Eocene times. This NE-SW compression produced El Rawdah structures, which reflect shortening values between 14% and 29.4%. The rock mechanical properties and bed thicknesses controlled the folding mechanisms. Whereas, buckling developed open folds in the thick and relatively brittle beds of the Campanian to Maastrichtian rocks, while flexural slip folding mechanism produced tight folds in the thin and ductile beds of the Maastrichtian to Early Eocene rocks.
