Abstract: One of fundamental challenges of clustering is how to evaluate results, without auxiliary information. A common approach for evaluation of clustering results is to use validity indexes. Clustering validity approaches can use three criteria: External criteria (evaluate the result with respect to a pre-specified structure), internal criteria (evaluate the result with respect a information intrinsic to the data alone). Consequently, different types of indexes are used to solve different types of problems and indexes selection depends on the kind of available information. That is why in this paper we show a comparison between external and internal indexes. Results obtained in this study indicate that internal indexes are more accurate in group determining in a given clustering structure. Six internal indexes were used in this study: BIC, CH, DB, SIL, NIVA and DUNN and four external indexes (F-measure, NMIMeasure, Entropy, Purity). The clusters that were used were obta!
ined through clustering algorithms K-means and Bissecting-K-means.

Abstract: In this paper a novel algorithm to detect explicit content or pornographic images is proposed using the transformation from the RGB model color to the YCbCr or HSV color model, moreover using the skin detection the image is segmented, finally the percentage of pixels that was detected as skin tone is calculated. The results obtained using the proposed algorithm are compared with two software solutions, Paraben’s Porn Detection Stick and FTK Explicit Image Detection, which are the most commercial software solutions to detect pornographic images. A set of 800 images, which 400 pornographic images and 400 natural images, is used to test each system. The proposed algorithm carried out identify up to 68.87% of the pornographic images, and 14.25% of false positives, the Paraben’s Porn Detection Stick achieved 71.5% of recognizing but with 33.5% of false positives, and FTK Explicit Image Detection achieved 69.25% of effectiveness for the same set of images but 35.5% o!
f false positives. Finally the proposed algorithm works effectively to carry out the main goal which is to apply this method to forensic analysis or pornographic images detection on storage devices.

Abstract: Car seat fabrics are uniquely fashioned textiles. A number of them is branded by a sponged-like appearance, characterized by spots and slightly discoloured areas. Their surface anisotropy is considered to be a relevant aesthetic feature since it has a strong impact on customer perceived quality. A first-rate car seat fabric requires a "small" quantity of spots and discoloured areas while fabrics characterized either by a large number or by a low number of spots, are considered to be of lower quality. Therefore, car seat fabric quality grading is a relevant issue to be dealt with downstream to the production line. Nowadays, sponged-like fabric grading is performed by human experts by means of manual inspection and classification; though this manual classification proves to be effective in fabric grading, the process is subjective and its results may vary depending on the operator skills. Accordingly, the definition of a method for the automatic and objective !
grading of sponged-like fabrics is necessary. The present work aims to provide a computer-based tool capable of classifying sponged-like fabrics, as closely as possible to classifications performed by skilled operators. Such a tool, composed by an appositely devised machine vision system, is capable of extracting a number of numerical parameters characterizing the fabric veins and discoloured areas. Such parameters are, then, used for training an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) with the aim of classifying the fabrics in terms of quality. Finally, a comparison between the ANN-based classification and the one provided by fabric inspectors is performed. The proposed method, tested on a validation set composed by 65 sponged-like fabrics, proves to be able to classify the fabrics into the correct quality class in 93.8% of the cases, with respect to the selection provided by human operators.

Abstract: Wireless technologies have evolved very rapidly in recent years. In the future, operators will need to enable users to use communication' services independently of access technologies, so they will have to support seamless handovers in heterogeneous networks. In this paper, we focus on building the simulation model for testing advanced handover procedures. Simulation model based on real operator network measurements was presented, verified and validated. In addition, advanced procedure for SIP based seamless handover in heterogeneous network using congestion detection was described. Its performance was evaluated using the described simulation model. The results have shown that, by using the CAHP C procedure, we can significantly improve the user experience for VoIP application when performing seamless handover in heterogeneous networks.

Abstract: An automatic 3D model retrieval from freehand conceptual sketches is a key target for both commercial software houses and academic research. Unfortunately, most of the approaches are not suitable for properly translating stylistic sketches into 3D models. In order to carry out this 3D model conversion, the first task to be dealt with is to turn raster data (3D or 2D free-form curves) into vectorial ones. Such a task represents a key issue which has been addressed by a number of authors but still far to be exhaustively worked out. To address this challenge, this work presents a new method that allows to fit 2D unordered point cloud data with Multiple Incident Splines (MISs). At the heart of the proposed approach are two main procedures: the first one is based on Euclidean Minimum Spanning Tree (EMST) and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) for detecting the main local directions of the point cloud and to order its points while preserving original topology; the second!
is meant to fit ordered point clouds with spline curves providing a robust intersection and vertex detection. The proposed methodology, tested on a number of case studies, proves to preserve the original topology more efficiently than alternative techniques supplied by commercial vectorization software packages.

Abstract: Corporate governance represents a highly debated topic, taking significant part of the ink during the last decade. Furthermore, it was the financial crisis of 2007-2009 that brought the subject even more into the spotlight. In the context of a worldwide recession caused by excessive credit expansion [21] central elements of corporate governance, such as executive remuneration; internal control; risk management; the board of directors; independent non-executive directors; and shareholders' role are nowadays being reconsidered and closely analyzed. Our paper focuses on accounting, traders and remuneration issues. Regardless of the roots we nowadays find at the bottom of recent turbulent times, be them caused by greed, naivety and/or incorrect assessment of risk exposures, highly fragile global governance structures have been uncovered. Analyzing recent events makes us conclude upon the necessity of learning from the lessons being offered through recent turbulent time!

Abstract: In this paper, we studied the performance of bit error rate(BER) for a virtual multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) based communications architecture used in wireless sensor networks and proposed an optimal transmitting power(TP) scheme for transmitting cooperative sensor nodes in one cluster. Closed-form of the optimal TP for each cooperating node was derived by minimizing BER of the Nt¡Á1 virtual MIMO system. This strategy is then compared to an equal TP assignment method and its performance enhancement is verified by extensive simulations. Furthermore, at the aim to energy efficient, a thorough explanation of optimally choosing number of cooperating nodes is delivered by the aid of mathematical analysis as well as simulation verifications.

Abstract: In this paper, a reliable and energy efficient protocol is presented, which adopts adaptive rate control based on an optimal common transmit power (TP). A mathematical model considering average interference and network connectivity was used to predict the optimal TP. Then under the optimal TP, active nodes adaptively chose the data rate with the change of bit-error¨Crate(BER) performance. The efficiency of the new strategy was validated by mathematical analysis and simulations. Compared with 802.11 DCF which uses maximum unified TP [5]and BASIC protocol in ‎[6], it is shown to achieve higher average throughput while minimizing energy consumption per useful bit through the results.

Abstract: Wireless multimedia sensor networks (WMSNs) are an emerging technology which employs some nodes endowed with a CMOS camera and/or a microphone for a series of innovative multimedia sensing applications. Typically, congested nodes may deplete the energy of the active congested paths toward the sink and incur in undesired communication delay and packet dropping, while bit errors during transmission may negatively impact the end-to-end quality of the received media. Congestion control and loss recovery mechanisms are expected from transport protocols, which usually provide one or both of these services exploiting different approaches. Due to the unique characteristics of multimedia-based wireless sensor networks, especially high bandwidth, low delay and reduced energy consumption requirements, communication protocols from traditional scalar wireless sensor networks are not suitable for WMSNs, which have demanded some research effort in adapting existing protocols or p!
roposing new protocols from scratch. We survey the state of the art of WMSNs transport protocols, addressing the recent developments and proposed strategies for congestion control and error recovery. Future research directions are also discussed, outlining the remaining challenges and promising investigation areas.

Abstract: Many different methods of ECG compression have been suggested over the last number of decades. They are typically classed into to three distinct groups â€" Direct Data, Parameter Extraction and Transform methods. The metric most frequently used to differentiate between the accuracy of the different types of compression is a percentage root-mean-square difference (PRD) calculation versus compression ratio, despite the accuracy of such a method having been acknowledged as greatly limited. In this article PRD calculation and an improved partial PRD difference method are investigated and their significant shortcomings highlighted. Dynamic time warping is presented as a method of quantifying the approximation error which may be present but goes undetected by the percentage PRD calculation due to approximation of the ECG. Dynamic time warping provides a significantly more accurate metric for comparing compression algorithms and their respective accuracies. It allows for !
detailed comparison of differing approximation methods and variations of the same approximation method, not possible using the RMS difference versus compression ratio. Its usefulness is fully investigated by comparing several direct data compression algorithms, including a novel threshold variation of the scan along polygonal approximation technique. Results provided demonstrate possible misdiagnosis of cardiac conditions resulting from the limitation of the RMS difference versus compression ratio metric and the benefits of the application of dynamic time warping in examining the accuracy of different compression techniques.

Abstract: Although some ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software products are available on the market, they do not entirely fit each and every type of business. That is the main reason why companies prefer to develop their own ERP type of systems, thus eliminating "barriers" such as long time and high costs required to develop the software, compared with the shorter time and lower costs of just purchasing the ERP system and customizing it to the targeted business. However, in the short run, lower cost will eventually result into losses in the long run, due to that, one the one hand, the system is not perfectly adapted to business specifics and, on the other hand, customizing an ERP package can influence implementation of the standard benefits of an integrated system. Therefore, many times, the best choice for a company would be to develop an ERP type of system that caters perfectly for the needs of the organization. In this paper, we will proceed to the analysis, presenta!
tion and comparison of the current most important information methodologies (for business analysis and for IT projects – people-oriented methodologies) and databases/ data warehouses which are being used in development of the ERP systems. Also, another aspect that we will consider, in our paper is to examine how some of the technologies used in the development of ERP systems can be applied in the development of e-government type systems.

Abstract: In this paper, the magnetic field effects on non-Newtonian power-law fluids for heat transfer over a stretching flat sheet in the presence of heat generation are studied numerically. The governing continuity, momentum, and energy equations are converted into a system of non-linear ordinary differential equations by means of similarity transformation. The resulting system of coupled non-linear ordinary differential equations is solved numerically. Numerical results were presented for velocity and temperature profiles for different parameters of the problem as the power-law fluid index, magnetic field parameter, temperature buoyancy parameter, Prandtl parameter, heat source parameter, stretching parameter and temperature exponent parameter and other. Also the effects of the pertinent parameters on the skin friction and the rate of heat are obtained and discussed numerically and illustrated graphically

Abstract: In this paper a digital circuit architecture dedicated to median filtering of grayscale images is presented. The architecture emerges from a sorting network based median algorithm which effectiveness is verified by Matlab programming and its hardware implementation tested on a Spartan-3E FPGA device. The median pixel computation is approached by a sorting network scheme which is constituted by seven three-data comparator modules and hierarchically composed by twenty one switch/compare circuits. The successful operation of the three-data comparator module is demonstrated by transistor level SPICE simulations using 0.5um CMOS technology.

Abstract: This paper investigates the multi-machine power systems stability enhancement by means of STATCOM-based stabilizers. To demonstrate the influence of the introduction of the STATCOM to the power systems, a comparative study is implemented by attaching a single SVC or a single STATCOM to the studied power system. The under-study power system includes a superconducting generator (SCG) and nine conventional units of different types and ratings. In view of control, various types of control systems are used such as Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controller and power system stabilizers (PSSs). The system's nonlinear model is established by achieving a satisfactory degree of accuracy and tested for various types of contingency. The simulation results reveal that, the introduction of STATCOM is achieving further enhancement of the system performance in terms of damping increase and fast return of system variables to their nominal values under different disturbances !
such as 3-phase short circuit, step increase in load, and line outage compared to the SVC-based stabilizers.

Abstract: The paper deals with a relationship between the economic cycle and unemployment in the Visegrad group countries. The paper examines the causes of the economic crisis and its consequences on the labor market. Quarterly Eurostat and OECD data were used for the analysis of labor market performance. We also used the Beveridge curve which implicitly depicts a negative relationship between the rate of unfilled job vacancies and the unemployment rate and so it can properly link related creation of new job vacancies and the unemployed. Another finding is that shifts of individual Beveridge curves correspond to shifts of the theoretical Beveridge curve. In the last part of the paper, the Johansen test and the Error Correction Model were applied on 2000-2010 data to examine cointegration between the number of the unemployed labor force and output. On the basis of the unit root test, we found that in all countries, both variables are stationary except for their first differen!
ces Cointegration was proved only in the case of Slovakia.

Title of the Paper: Resource Allocation for QoS-Aware OFDMA Cellular Networks with Cooperative Relaying
Authors as they appear in the Paper: Xiaoyan Huang, Yuming Mao, Fan Wu, Supeng Leng
Email addresses of all the authors:
Number of paper pages: 12
Abstract: This paper proposes a QoS-aware resource allocation scheme, called as cooperative resource allocation scheme (CoRA), for relay-based OFDMA systems with both QoS and Best-effort (BE) users. Using CoRA, cooperative transmission between the Base-station (BS) and the Relay-station (RS) is employed to fulfill the requirements of QoS users. Moreover, resource scheduling is allowed not only at the BS but also at each RS to fully exploit time-varying channel state and multiuser diversity, so as to achieve efficient radio resource utilization. The design of subchannel and power allocation in CoRA can be formulated as a non-linear combinatorial optimization problem, which aims at maximizing the system utility while satisfying the data rate requirements of QoS users and the separate transmission power constraints at both BS and RSs. To address the prohibitively high computational complexity in solving the optimization problem, we decompose the global optimization problem in C!
oRA into subchannel allocation and power control sub-problems as a suboptimal solution. Numerical results demonstrate that our proposed CoRA scheme is able to significantly improve the network performance in terms of power saving, user utilities, system throughput, as well as the number of admitted users.

Abstract: Controllability and observability of a class of matrix Differential Algebraic Equation (DAEs) are studied in this paper. The structure of a closed-form solution for the system is sought via two one-sided sub-systems. The solution is then used to derive necessary and sufficient conditions for the controllability and observability of the time-varying matrix DAE systems. More straightforward conditions on the controllability and observability of linear time-invariant matrix DAE systems that only depend on the state matrices are also obtained.

Abstract: The paper studies the induced voltage on the DC transmission lines induced by the AC in different power transmission modes, when they are erected parallel in the same corridor or on one tower, and analyze the effect of electromagnetic shielding methods. In the paper an EMI model to calculate the induced voltage, is constituted by the distributed capacitances based on the theory of conduction coupling. Results indicate that the induced voltages of different power transmission modes distinctly different. In the same corridor, the induced voltage of the large cross-section conductor is rough similarity with the normal conductor under otherwise equal conditions, but power transmission capability of these AC transmission lines is far. And the results indicate that the more additional ground wire and the bigger difference height, the smaller the induced voltage. On one tower, the induced voltage of the single-circuit compact arrangement (ob-triangular) is the smallest i!
n the same vertical distance, and the single-circuit compact arrangement (ob-triangular) in structure has the advantages. Adding ground wires and changing the vertical distance can restrain the induced voltage.

Abstract: Gas turbine is an important functional part of many applications. Cooling of blades has been a major concern since they are in a high temperature environment. Various techniques have been proposed for the cooling of blades and one such technique is to have axial holes along the blade span. Finite element analysis is used to analyze thermal and structural performance due to the loading condition, with material properties of Titanium- Aluminum Alloy. Six different models with different number of holes (7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12) where analyzed in this paper to find out the optimum number of holes for good performance. In Finite element analysis, first thermal analysis followed by structural analysis is carried out. Graphs plotted for temperature distribution for existing design (12 holes) and for 8 holes against time. 2D and 3D model of the blade with cooling passages are shown. Using ANSYS, bending stress, deflection, temperature distribution for number of holes are anal!
yzed. Results have been discussed and we found that when the numbers of holes are increased in the blade, the temperature distribution falls down. For the blade configuration with 8 holes, the temperature near to the required value i.e., 800oC is obtained. Thus a turbine blade with 8 holes configuration is found to be the optimum solution.

Abstract: This study explored the dynamic characteristics and monitoring design of the photovoltaic energy conversion system, which is a system model of an independent power supply. This study first established the non-linear differential equation of the system model, linearized the model, and analyzed the eigenvalues and dynamic response of the system using the MATLAB program. The dynamic characteristics of the photovoltaic energy conversion system were obtained from systematic analysis. In addition, this study used the main controller in industrial automation, programmable logic controller (PLC), to monitor the overall system and the electric energy of solar cells. Title of the Paper: Rewriting Petri Nets as Directed Graphs
Authors as they appear in the Paper: A. Spiteri Staines
Email addresses of all the authors: toni_staines@yahoo.com
Number of paper pages: 8
Abstract: This work attempts to understand some of the basic properties of Petri nets and their relationships to directed graphs. Different forms of directed graphs are widely used in computer science. Normally various names are given to these structures. E.g. directed acyclical graphs (DAGs), control flow graphs (CFGs), task graphs, generalized task graphs (GTGs), state transition diagrams (STDs), state machines, etc. Some structures might exhibit bisimilarity. The justification for this work is that Petri nets are based on graphs and have some similarities to them. Transforming Petri nets into graphs opens up a whole set of new interesting possible experimentations. Normally this is overlooked. Directed Graphs have a lot of theory and research associated with them. This work could be further developed and used for Petri net evaluation. The related works justifies the reasoning how and why Petri nets are obtained or supported using graphs. The transformation approach can be!
formal or informal. The main problem tackled is how graphs can be obtained from Petri nets. Possible solutions that use reduction methods to simplify the Petri net are presented. Different methods to extract graphs from the basic or fundamental Petri net classes are explained. Some examples are given and the findings are briefly discussed.

Title of the Paper: Rule Based Bi-Directional Transformation of UML2 Activities into Petri Nets
Authors as they appear in the Paper: A. Spiteri Staines
Email addresses of all the authors: toni_staines@yahoo.com
Number of paper pages: 8
Abstract: Many modern software models and notations are graph based. UML 2 activities are important notations for modeling different types of behavior and system properties. In the UML 2 specification it is suggested that some forms of activity types are based on Petri net formalisms. Ideally the mapping of UML activities into Petri nets should be bi-directional. The bi-directional mapping needs to be simplified and operational. Model-to-Model mapping in theory offers the advantage of fully operational bi-directional mapping between different models or formalisms that share some common properties. However in reality this is not easily achievable because not all the transformations are similar. Previous work was presented where it was shown how Triple Graph Grammars are useful to achieve this mapping. UML 2 activities have some common properties with Petri nets. There are exceptions which require some special attention. In this paper a simple condensed rule based solution for!
complete bi-directional mapping or transforming UML 2 activities into Petri nets is presented. The solution should be operational, and can be represented using different notations. A practical example is used to illustrate the bi-directional transformation possibility and conclusions are explained.

Abstract: In the following paper we examine the influence of the perceptual speech quality on the performance of the text-independent automated speaker recognition system (ASRS). The perceptual speech quality was objectively measured using Perceptual Evaluation of Speech Quality method (PESQ). The speech quality was degraded under various conditions as imposed in Voice over Wireless Local Area Network (VoWLAN), GSM and PSTN telephony. The ASRS error rates of this evaluation are presented by means of detection error tradeoff (DET) curves. The results show the correlations between PESQ MOS and ASRS equal error rate (EER) and promise the objective speech quality measurements can be used for the prediction of ASRS performance.

Abstract: Trigonometry is a branch of mathematics that deals with relations between sides and angles of triangles. It has some relationship to geometry, though there is disagreement on exactly what that relationship is. For some, trigonometry is just a subtopic of geometry. The trigonometric functions are very important in technical subjects like Astronomy, Relativity, science, engineering, architecture, and even medicine. In this paper, the rectangular trigonometry is introduced in order to be in the future a part of the General trigonometry topic. Thus, the definition of this original part is presented. The rectangular trigonometric functions are also defined. The importance of these functions is by producing multi signal forms by varying some parameters of a single function. Different signals and forms are analyzed and discussed. The concept of the rectangular Trigonometry is completely different from the traditional trigonometry in which the study of angles is not the r!
elation between sides of a right triangle that describes a circle as the previous one, but the idea here is to use the relation between angles and sides of a rectangular form with the internal and external circles formed by the intersection of the rectangular form and the positive parts of x'ox and y'oy axis in the Euclidian 2D space and their projections. This new concept of relations will open a huge gate in the mathematical domain and it can resolve many complicated problems that are difficult or almost impossible to solve with the traditional trigonometry, and it can describe a huge number of multi form periodic signals.

Abstract: Cryptanalysis with Computational Intelligence has gained much interest in recent years. This paper presents an approach for breaking the key used in Simplified-Data Encryption Standard (S-DES) using Genetic algorithm (GA), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and a novel approach called Genetic Swarm Optimization (GSO) obtained by combining the effectiveness of GA and PSO. Ciphertext-only attack is embraced here and an optimum key is produced based on Letter Frequency analysis as Cost function. The key is optimized using the capabilities of Computational Intelligence and the experimental results indicate GSO is an effective tool which runs through less time to break the key used in S-DES and reduces the search space nearly by a factor of 6.

Abstract: The lack of an agreed upon definition of information system is one of many obstacles troubling the academic information systems discipline. After listing a number of definitions of IS, this paper defines information system as a special case of work system as defined in Alter (1999a). Abstract: There are three methods for analyzing flow and pressure distribution in looped water supply networks (the loop method, the node method, the element method) taking into consideration hydraulic parameters chosen as unknown. For all these methods, the nonlinear system of equations can be solved by iterative procedures (Hardy–Cross, Newton–Raphson, linear theory). În the case of extending or rehability distribution networks the unknown parameters being the piezometric heads at nodes, the node method for network analysis is prefered. In this paper is formulated a generalized classic model for the nodal analysis of complex looped systems with non-standard network components and the solvability of new problems, alongside the determination of pressure state in the system. Also, this paper shows a different approach to this problem by using the method of variational formulations for the development of an improved model based on the unconditional optimization procedures. Thi!
s model has the advantage that it uses a specialized optimization algorithm which minimizes directly an objective multivariable function without constraints, implemented in a computer program. The paper compares proposed models to the classic Hardy–Cross method, and shows the good performance of these models. Based on these models a study regarding implications of pipe network longtime operation on energy consumption is performed.

Abstract: The paper treats the method of decreasing the size of surfaces of heat exchangers in general by increasing the heat transfer coefficients, the importance of heat transfer enhancement in general and for vaporization in special, also the used methods. This increase is achieved in our case by passive methods applied to heat transfer surfaces, namely mechanical processing, covering with sle-eves made by metallic tissues or covering with metallic porous layers, made using welding methods. These tube surfaces are used for increasing heat transfer coefficients from inner heating source to outer vaporizing liquids. Are mentioned also the most important particularities for vaporizing enhanced heat transfer from metallic porous layers. Results for tests made with improved heated surfaces, comparison between different surfaces are presented after personal research. Abstract: Solving the differential equation of heat conduction the temperature in each point of the body can be determined. However, in the case of bodies with boundary surface of sophisticated geometry no analytical method can be used. In this case the use of numerical methods becomes necessary. The finite element method is based on the integral equation of the heat conduction. This is obtai-ned from the differential equation using variational calculus. The temperature values will be calculated on the finite elements. Then, based on these partial solutions, the solution for the entire volume will be determined. Using this method we can divide into elements also fields with any border. Also, numerical modelling with boundary elements is used for analysis of heat conduction. In this paper are developed basic ideas of numerical analysis with finite elements and boundary (constant) elements of conductive thermal fields generated or induced into solid body in steady state regime!
. The temperature distribution in some solid bodies and in pipe insulation is analyzed using analytical method and finite element and boundary element methods, implemented in two computer programs developed by the author. This shows the good performance of the proposed numerical models.
