Abstract: Thalassaemia is a genetic blood disorder where the blood cells are unable to carry sufficient oxygen supply for the organs. The Thalassaemia has a distribution concomitant with areas where P. Falciparum malaria is common. The alpha Thalassaemia is concentrated in Southeast Asia, Malaysia, and southern China. The beta Thalassaemia is seen primarily in the areas surrounding Mediterranean Sea, Africa and Southeast Asia. Due to global migration patterns, there has been an increase in the incidence of Thalassaemia in North America in the last ten years, primarily due to immigration from Southeast Asia (The Reader's Digest, 1989). The increment of the cases forces the government hospital to have an alternative method in diagnosing Thalassaemia than only depend on the Hematologist. Case-Based Reasoning is a subset of an Artificial Intelligence technique utilizes the specific knowledge of previous experiences to solve new problems by remembering previous similar cases. It !
is highly suitable for medical domain. Hence, this work provides model that demonstrates how Thalassaemia can be diagnosed via Integrated Thalassaemia Decision Support System (ITDSS).

Abstract: Investments represent the material support system of any sort of economic growth, they contribute greatly to ensuring a normal development of an economy, the key factor in the development of production infrastructure and the material basis for all the socio-cultural activities undertaken, as well as a boost in the quality of life in any kind of economy, regardless of the structure and stage of development studied. Investments are easily affected by different factors or phenomena which can jeopardise the project implementation and the targeted results partially or even entirely. The article is trying to summarize what happens with the investments when the economy goes down. The greatest risk nowadays is the volatility of prices. In a period when the demand for products and services is dramatically reduced, the investors have no perspectives available regarding the evolution of markets. When economic recession is present, all investors wait for the investment decisio!
n of the other investors. So, the question is whether to invest or not? Which is the best decision? What are the others doing? We are trying to find an answer in this paper.

Abstract: Water resources are being, over decades, intensively over explored and polluted, and it is estimated that in a few years, it is reached highly values of water stress in Europe. Portugal is already in the ranking of countries with medium water stress (10-20%). To avoid the deterioration of this situation it is imperative to consider different approaches of water management, such as water reuse strategies. Toilet flushing, pavements and car washing and garden irrigation are uses in which the quantity of greywater dispended is high and the needs in terms of quality can be lower than the potable water, and so these can represent potential reuse applications in a unfamiliar dwelling. Greywater in situ reuse can be a practice to consider since its quality and quantity is enough to consider the uses referred above. In this context, a research of the quantity and quality of greywater produced in a dwelling, allows to reuse only the water with the best characteristics and s!
o it will require a lower level of treatment. In this paper is presented the quantitative and qualitative characterization of greywater, as well as the required quantity for its reuse in some in situ non-potable urban applications.

Abstract: The paper presents in the first part, step by step, the necessary procedures to be accomplished in order to produce the alternative fuel bio-diesel, starting from waste animal fats with high free fatty acid concentration, and applying the transesterification. Based on the experimental results, one performed further a comparative study concerning the generated impact on air quality, bio-fuel versus normal diesel, when they would be utilized as main fuel for the vehicles in real traffic. The CALROADS software was used. The simulation scenarios were conducted to 2 major crossroads in the city of Timisoara. The simulation results demonstrate clearly that air quality is improved when biofuel is used.

Abstract: From physical point of view, the dumping represents the soil seismic excitation energy taken over process through internal absorption, rubbed between existent layers, as cracks on rocky foundations. Generally, on heavy dams dynamic analysis it is considered a viscous dump, proportional with deformation speed. The dumping can be evaluated on experimental bases or on environmental conditions measurements. The latest determine higher values of dumping elements. This it could be explained with the local factors influence which is not possible to modeled as backlash treatment, foundation ground characteristics, the concrete technology. This represents an atypical dissipate phenomenon. A major influence is done by the excitation level as real seism or experimental excitation. The present work is about to establish the influence of the dissipate effect of the backlash on concrete blocks. The backlash finite elements modeling make this possible, studying different situati!
ons as rub effect, cohesion effect, seismic action on varying directions with the same accelerogram of 0.4g. The studied blocks have the same dimensions, the relative displacement being obtained by foundation stiffness modified under two block parts.

Abstract: Information hiding has been an important research topic for the past several years. Techniques to solve the problem of unauthorized copying, tampering, and multimedia data delivery through the internet are urgently needed. Today¡¦s information hiding techniques consist mainly of steganography and digital watermarking. In this paper, we shall focus on the digital watermarking and propose an improved version of the integer discrete wavelet transform (integer-DWT)-based watermarking technique proposed by Chang et al. [17]. Our method is able to achieve ownership protection. First, the original image is performed with the Discrete Wavelet Transformation (DWT) and embedded with the watermark in the HL and LH blocks associated with an embedding rule. The experimental results show that the proposed approach indeed produces better results than the compared method in terms of the quality of the stego image, the extracted watermark with or without attack, and time efficienc!

Abstract: Trisection of the given general angle, squaring the circle, duplicating the cube, to draw a regular heptagon, to find a general solution formula for the fifth degree algebraic equation and to deduce the Euclidean fifth postulate from the first four postulates are the most famous 2300 years old mathematical impossibilities. The square root of two (2) is always irrational, the sum of the two odd numbers is always an even number and the polynomial quadratic equation cannot have more than two roots. In this short work, by establishing the Euclidean fifth postulate, the author has attempted to show that the addition operation of elementary arithmetic and the laws of elementary first order linear algebraic equations miserably fail in geometry.

Abstract: This paper introduced planning and control of a hybrid vacuum-forming machine system (HAVES). The HAVES was developed to integrate CAD/CAM, screw-pin tooling, CNC, vacuum forming and optical measurement device together to produce vacuum forming components. The screw-pin tooling was employed to replace traditional dedicated solid tooling and its reconfigurability provided the HAVES with advantages in rapid producing small batch and mass customization products. The whole control system of the HAVES is divided into two parts: one for screw-pin tooling adjustment and machining by using CNC control, and the other for vacuum forming by using PLC control. The detail design of the control system was discussed.

Abstract: In the current internet world, peoples are more attracted towards participating in the e-commerce sites. The real challenge for the web master of any such website is to find user needs in advance and provide the resource web pages to them, so as to create interest among the users in continuously browse their site. Since, it's easy for any unsatisfied user to reach out the counterpart site in a single click. Many Web usage mining methods were adopted to work on web server log and identify the imminent browsing pattern of user. However, the accuracy of the methods can't satisfy the user especially in huge site. This paper presents the novel Onlooker and Forager agent based architecture that uses its collective intelligence for identifying the imminent browsing pattern of user. Our practical implementation shows that accuracy and coverage measures are very much improved than existing methods.

Abstract: In this paper, we report on investigation uses a method of calculation the photocurrent delivered by the organic solar cell double-layer MPP/ZnPc applying the equations of continuities and the currents by analogy to the phenomena of loads transport according to the model of an heterojunction n/p. The principal photovoltaic parameters of this structure are calculated by the simulation of equation I(V), under illumination AM1. 5. Insertion of composite layer C60:ZnPc in the interface of MPP and ZnPc makes it possible to improve the performances of the cell by an increase in the photocurrent of the value 2.6 mA/cm 2 to 5.3 mA/cm 2 and the conversion efficiency ç from 0,72% to 1,49%. We worked out a numerical model based on resolution of equations of continuities who gave results in good accordance with literature and which allowed, moreover a better control of performances of organic cells, for their improvement.

Abstract: This paper presents a preliminary study of an approach that models programmable logic controllers (PLCs) for their effective deployment in industrial control processes. A working model is developed for automatic allocation of PLCs and formal verification of Ladder Diagram representations of control processes using the SMV (Symbolic Model Verifier) tool. Automatic resource allocation is achieved through the proposition of a digraph model for any Ladder Diagram representation of a control process, which is then translated to an XML model. The required PLC resources needed to implement a control process are extracted from the XML model. These resources are then used by a selection engine to determine from a PLC database the most appropriate PLCs or Embedded Controllers (EBCs) that can satisfy the resource requirements. Additionally, information extracted from the XML model is used to generate a formally verifiable SMV code of the system. This paper focuses on the p!
ractical implementation, testing, and verification of three conceptual modules applied to a control process, which are: the XML model of the control process, the PLC Database Automatic Resource Allocation, and the XML-to-SMV translator. This work was significantly motivated by the ever increasing number of industries who seek to increase efficiencies through the automation of their processes. Practitioners in the PLC industry should find this work extremely useful. This endeavor is a precursory step in the drive to the total automation and formal verification of industrial processes.

Abstract: Traditionally, Digital Rights Management (DRM) is not easy to implement on a Peer-to-Peer (P2P) network because of the unstructured P2P file sharing system makes it difficult to both store and protect digital content simultaneously. In this paper we propose a Loosely Coupled Peer-to-peer Content System (LCPCS), provide digital content protection and video stream sharing. The feature of LCPCS include: 1) a novel DRM scheme for P2P networks based on open sharing, 2) a digital content protection, 3) an on-line server is unnecessary, 4) finite peers can access the same video program at the same time, and 5) a valid period restricts the digital content available to each peer user to a specific time period. The digital content distributed via our proposed scheme is encrypted with secret key and thus can be securely protected. Only legitimate peers have purchase a DRM rights can access the plaintext of digital content. Two important issues need to be addressed: 1) efficie!
nt protection of digital content: Many peers generate their own secret key and encrypt or decrypt digital content; and 2) the number of peers permitted to access the same video program simultaneously. An example and implementation are given at the end of this paper.

Abstract: Plant Growth Simulation Algorithm has emerged as a useful optimization tool for handling nonlinear programming problems. In this paper, various modifications to the basic method have been proposed with a view to enhance speed and robustness. This method has been applied successfully on some benchmark mathematical problems. Few applications have been reported on real-world problems such as network reconfiguration for loss reduction, load balancing and even capacitor placement in distribution system. The proposed method is tested to reconfigure 69-node radial distribution systems for loss minimization and load balancing.

Abstract: HVDC-Light has the advantages of flexible operating ways and reliability, especially in the transmission problem of offshore wind power. But it needs many PI controllers in the two converters (wind farm side, grid side). So there are many parameters need to be set which is difficult. This paper adopted the control mode that the outside loop controlled the voltage and the inside loop controlled the current. The inside loop made use of input-output feedback linearization method to make the nonlinear coupled converter mathematical model be linearization and decoupled. And it can substitute pole placement for PI parameters setting. Namely that it changed the problem of adjusting PI parameters to the one of pole placement. The control objective is to track the given values of active and reactive current from outside loops. The outside loop PI parameters is optimized with cooperation random particle swarm optimization(CRPSO) algorithm. Simulation results of Matlab/Simuli!
nk were compared with the conventional PI controller which show that the control method of this paper is effective.

Abstract: In Senegal, information and communication technologies (ICTs) have been applied to accelerate the development of horticulture. Farmers can access information about weather, market price, and production volume through the ICT-based information systems. However, little is known about the nature and limitations of actual ICT usage among farmers in rural areas. Green bean is one of the dominant garden crops in Senegal, and market information is crucial to its farm management. Therefore, this study aims to assess the marketing risks, ICT usage, and information needs of green bean producers to further promote the use of ICT-based information systems. A survey was conducted in Dakar Region, the chief production area of green bean in Senegal. From the results of this study, it is found that perishability and competition were the main marketing risks of green bean producers. Mobile phone and telecentre were the most commonly adopted ICT in their daily life. Their key inform!
ation needs included wholesale, retail, and input prices. Language and cost were the major limiting factors in further usage of ICT. Furthermore, female producers showed vulnerability in price risk. Younger producers appeared to have relatively higher usage of TV and household telephone while older producers had higher usage of radio usage. Similarly, higher education was positively correlated to higher information needs on weather and agricultural policy. Among ethnic groups, Serer and other ethnic minority groups appeared to be more vulnerable to marketing risks. Members of producers' associations seemed to have less concern about marketing risks and higher radio usage. Meanwhile, telecentre users showed higher marketing risks and greater information needs, indicating the telecentre as one of the key media to assist the vast uses. In sum, the findings of this study suggested tailored information requires handy media and proper format to reach rural producers. Based on the!
results, there is a necessity to develop an information system suppor
ted by voice service in local dialects as well as reliable and cost effective power sources. Finally, a research model for horticultural market information systems is also proposed to meet users' needs and enhance growth opportunities for horticulture industry in Senegal.

Abstract: The main purpose of this study is to provide an integrated method for personal concept structure analysis. Based on the utility of S-P chart (student problem chart) to deal with classification for learning style, students of different learning style display its own features of concept structure. In this study, S-P chart is used to classify learning styles of students. Concept structure analysis (CSA) could display personalized concept structure. CSA algorithm is the major methodology and its foundation is fuzzy logic model of perception (FLMP) and interpretive structural modeling (ISM). CSA could clearly represent hierarchies and linkage among concepts. Therefore, CSA will be effectively to display features of personal concept structures. In this study, an empirical data for concepts of linear algebra from university students is discussed. The results show that students of varied learning styles own distinct knowledge structures. CSA combined with S-P chart coul!
d be feasible for cognitive diagnosis. According to the findings and results, some suggestions and recommendations for future research are discussed.

Abstract: This study investigated the effect of cross sectional geometry on sediment transport rate. The processes of sediment transport are generally associated to environmental management, such as pollution caused by the forming of suspended sediment in the channel network of a watershed and preserving physical habitats and native vegetations, and engineering applications, such as the influence of sediment transport on hydraulic structures and flood control design. Many equations have been proposed for computing the sediment transport, the influence of many variables on sediment transport has been understood; however, the effect of other variables still requires further research. For open channel flow, sediment transport capacity is recognized to be a function of friction slope, flow velocity, grain size, grain roughness and form roughness, the hydraulic radius of the bed section and the type and quantity of vegetation cover. The effect of cross sectional geometry of the !
channel on sediment transport is one of the variables that need additional investigation. The width-depth ratio (W/d) is a comparative indicator of the channel shape. The width is the total distance across the channel and the depth is the mean depth of the channel. The mean depth is best calculated as total cross-sectional area divided by the top width. Channels with high W/d ratios tend to be shallow and wide, while channels with low (W/d) ratios tend to be narrow and deep. In this study, the effects of the width-depth ratio on sediment transport was demonstrated theoretically by inserting the shape factor in sediment continuity equation and analytically by utilizing the field data sets for Yalobusha River. It was found by utilizing the two approaches as a width-depth ratio increases the sediment transport decreases.
Keywords: sediment transport, shape factor, hydraulic geometry, flow discharge, width depth ratio.

Abstract: The notion of risk is reported on local and transitory phenomenon that through them actions are remodeling the ecological system, affecting the built environment and endangers the human life. Risks are nature generated like earthquakes, floods, winds and fires; and human generated like terrorism. Defining and understanding risks and the problems that each of them raises on built environment is essential because they are changing human environment and the way of life. Each risk has its own characteristics and raises specific problems. A multi hazard approach of design teams is required for a proper mitigation assessment of the impacts on built environment. An investigation of built environment affected by risks leads to definition of specific measures for each risk category as well as commune measures for mitigation. Abstract: Abstract:. Many researchers have commented on the use of technological resources in education, in particular in the robotic field, but consistent data that assess how robots affect motivation and learning in the vocational education programs are missing from the literature. We present an educational experience over one year in a vocational high school class forming electronic technicians. Motivation and pressure are considered two factors impacting vocational high school student learning. The introduction of educational robot project and then of the robot competition showed to be effective in improving learning efficiency in different fields as a consequence of enhancing intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Results are encouraging, and should affirm the idea that the didactic project "educational robot" is a well facilitated learning environment of different disciplines, where the motivation to learn increases, the achievements of both individual and class are posit!

Abstract: Transmission network expansion planning (TNEP) is an important component of power system planning. It determines the characteristic and performance of the future electric power network and influences the power system operation directly. Up till now, various methods have been presented for the solution of static TNEP (STNEP) problem. However, in all of them, STNEP problem has been solved regardless of the network losses role in TNEP under uncertainty in demand. Thus, in this paper, the role of network losses in STNEP problem is being studied under uncertainty in demand using an improved decimal codification genetic algorithm (IDCGA). The effectiveness of the proposed idea is tested on an actual transmission network of the Azerbaijan regional electric company, Iran. The results reveal that, considering the losses even for transmission expansion planning of a multi voltage level network with low load growth is caused that operational costs decreases considerably and t!
he network satisfies the requirement of delivering electric power more safely and reliable to load centers.

Abstract: Abstract: - The contribution deals with the problem of detecting, interpretation and understanding various contexts on the background of the process understanding and the context applying. Also the problem of multi-criteria evaluation is addressed and the different ways of knowledge integration is discussed. Despite rapid progress in this area, there are still a significant number of challenges that need to be addressed to enable automatic contextual decision making. Those challenges include robust detection of the context, its interpretation, multi-level semantic information and understanding on the base of inference from object interactions. The contribution is focused also on the use of Voronian diagrams in combination with standard spatial data to support the decisions in the field of nearest objects selection with regards to the additional considerations. It is shown that the localized knowledge make possible to aggregate important aspects of defined objects a!

Abstract: In the paper there is introduced the newly developed optimization method the Stochastic Optimization Algorithm with Probability Vector (PSV). It is related to Stochastic Learning Algorithm with Probability Vector for artificial neural networks. Both algorithms are inspired by stochastic iterated function system SIFS for generating the statistically self similar fractals. The PSV is gradient method where the direction of individual future movement from the population is based stochastically. PSV was tested on mathematical function minimization and on the travelling sales man problem. The influence of the quantity of individuals upon the best achieved fitness function was also tested on the mathematical functions minimization.
