Abstract: Abstract: - Inspired from the social foraging swarm, a simplified model for particle swarm optimization is presented and the new swarm optimization algorithm (SO) is developed. Compared to the standard particle swarm optimization (PSO) and its variants, the algorithm significantly simplifies the optimization process by reducing PSOs from the second order to first order difference equation and accelerates the individuals to overcome the local optima. A probability learning swarm optimization (PLSO) is presented for improving SO with probability learning from other individuals. Experiments are conducted on typical benchmark functions such as Rosenbrock, Griewan, Rastrigin, Ackley, etc. The results demonstrate good performance of the SO and PLSO when compared with other recent variants of the PSO.
