Abstract: This paper presents the possibility to produce energy from renewable sources in Rosia career. Rosia career is the biggest surface mining of lignite from the mining basin of Oltenia. In this career monthly are evacuated very big quantities of water through some specific works and equipments. Those quantities have values approximately constant of about 1.250.000 m3 /month. Considering those big quantities of water discharged, the problem is to use them, through not very complicated hydraulic improvements, in order to produce energy from renewable sources. Another reason to responde to this challenge is the Law no. 139/2010 regarding to modify and complete the Law no. 220/2008 for the establishment the system of promoting the production of energy from renewable energy sources, according to that, for every 1 MWh produced and delivered, in hydroelectric plant with installed powers of at most 10 MW new, the producer receives 3 green certificates. s a document which shows a quantity of 1MWh of electricity produced by renewable sources of energy (the minimum value of a certificate is 27 EUR, and the maximum value is 55 EUR).
