Abstract: The paper presents a diagnosis of poverty in Romania, focusing on both absolute and relative poverty, taking into consideration the following determinants and their dynamics during the last decade: area of residence, age, employment / occupational status, education and household size. The analysis of the particularities of poverty brings a significant contribution to the correct understanding of the positive aspects related to poverty reduction, representing at the same time guidelines and warning signs regarding the necessity of further documented, coordinated and applied measures.
