Abstract: A new method based on genetic concepts is suggested to analyze and determine the transmission (propagation and dispersion) characteristics for conventional fibers as well as photonic crystal fibers. The power and the advantage of this work, lie in the fact that it could be applied to any optical fibers type with any refractive index profile and the method computes its proper and accurate propagation constant which leads to investigate the desired dispersion and minimizes it to the least possible value.
