Abstract: Learning occurs when previous perceptions of reality are not in harmony with current experience, creating dissonance. To deepen understanding of the complexities of adult learning, this study presents the relationship within students¡¦ mode of study, the aims of learning and the motivation of choosing the course in further education. Associating rule mining will be used to explore the dataset, associate with these three factors and extract valuable rules. Several important adult learning theories will be reviewed and applied to examine the result. This research will provide valuable insight into how individual learning styles are shaped and developed in the further education.

Abstract: In this paper, an analysis of video quality of compressed MPEG-4 stream is performed. The video quality is performed using a test system composed by two metering devices: TEKTRONIX PQA500 Picture Quality Analyzer and TEKTRONIX MTS4EA Elementary Stream Analyzer. The measured parameters of compressed MPEG-4 signal are: macro block measurements and PSNR.

Abstract: Capacity markets provides additional revenue stream for the power suppliers. In a capacity-energy combined market environment, suppliers have incentives to deliberately over-offering their capacities in the capacity market while bid very high price in the energy and ancillary markets to avoid operation. This paper analyzes the risks and profits of this capacity-over-offering behavior, and develops a method for computing non-operable penalty level which can prevent the capacity-over-offering behavior. It is found that the effective penalty level is highly correlated with the stochastic characteristics of supplier¡¯s profit streams and supplier¡¯s risk attitudes. Two types of suppliers are suggested as the potential cheaters in the analysis. The methodology and the results are potentially useful for the operation and mitigation in a capacity-energy market environment.

Abstract: A solar tracking system is a machine that is designed for the orientation of different solar energy receivers, photovoltaic arrays or thermal receivers. The paper proposes a new solution of the solar position sensor used in tracking system control. The new matrix solar sensor (MSS) is an economic device but in the same time MSS advantages are the robustness and the accuracy. An actual tracking system that uses the new MSS achieves a position accuracy better then 1°. The main innovative concept of the new MSS is to use the ancient concept of solar clock to digitize the data set provided by the photosensors matrix area. The new MSS uses eight ordinary photo-resistors. These sensors working principle is to operate in two extreme conditions: in bright area or in shaded area. This binary principle simplifies the operating of the tracking control device.

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to analyze the flight stability of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) formation by using 3 degrees of freedom (3 DOF) models. The problem of flight formation will be approached in a simple manner, by using 3 DOF nonlinear models, as well as using a linear one. This theoretical development allows us to build stability matrix, command matrix and control matrix and finally to analyze the stability of autonomous flight of the UAV formation. The work will present and analyze the calculus results for developed solution. The novelty of the paper consists in algorithms that allow evaluating the stability of the UAV formation. The results will focus on flight stability of a UAV formation and its answer to regular perturbations.

Abstract: The modern design of office buildings shows a tendency to increase the window share per facade to be more impressive with grand visibility and well daylit rooms. An increased window share in general results in an increased use of energy and costs for cooling, but these disadvantages can be reduced with a more careful design. The aim of this paper is to show the influence of window design and room layout on cooling demand and daylight availability in office buildings in Northern Europe. The results in the paper are based on design calculations for two different room types and daylight measurements on two room scale models in a daylight laboratory. Calculations show the influence of window design parameters on the cooling demand. The daylight measurements show the influence of window design parameters on the availability for daylight. The results have then been combined to show feasible window design regarding daylight availability and resulting cooling demand fo!

The results show that, in most cases, it is possible to find a combination of window share and window solar factor that is feasible from daylight as well as cooling point of view. The main finding is that there is a smaller or wider range of feasible design for different window orientations. Here, the product of window share and solar factor is introduced as a guideline to find feasible designs.

Abstract: Using a 2D decision support system based on a recent analytical model, this paper is the first to demonstrate that bridge specific characteristics require a detailed analysis to determine the collapse load. Because of the complexity of finite element modelling and the computation time requirements of 3D finite elements models for a large number of load positions, it is regularly assumed that collapse positions are situated at the crown of the arc. Empirical testing in this paper clearly demonstrates that this is not the case. The here developed approach allows for a quick scan of any type of masonry bridge, thus providing the necessary information on the critical range of load positions to be analyzed in more detail by a 3D modelling approach.

Abstract: This paper presents an algorithm for Salt and Pepper noise reduction which can be applied to binary, gray scale, and color formatted documents. The scheme combines the characteristics of the Applied kFill Algorithms and Median Filter Algorithm by using window sizes of 3x3 and 5x5, depending on the size of the Salt and Pepper noise. The goal of this technique is to increase the PSNR of picture images and improve the quality for scanning documents when using an optical character recognition (OCR) system. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme can remove Salt and Pepper noise better than the use of the Applied kFill Algorithms and Median Filter Algorithm and can significantly improve the rec-ognition accuracy of an optical character recognition (OCR) system.

Abstract: Mobile phones nowadays perform like a personal computer. However, people generally use keywords or character set to search for information through the computer or mobile phone. When using keywords to do a search, users have to define the appropriate keywords for things that they want to search for. In some cases, mul-tiple keywords must be given in order to obtain satisfied results. However, defining the appropriate keyword is sometimes difficult. This paper proposed a mobile application for searching travel related information by using images taken from a mobile phone camera. The images and travel information are sent back and forth through the In-ternet by using Web-services. This proposed system could provide more convenience for users and/or tourists and decrease the restric-tion of searching information from a mobile phone through GPRS.

It examines the time to complete tasks and the energy usage of completing the tasks on a grid. A model of a simulated grid is developed and used to evaluate the resource allocation mechanisms. The model is an agent-based simulation where by user agents submit tasks to node agents that process these tasks. We evaluate three types of resource-allocator agents which all use a type of auction. The auction types are batch auction, continuous double auction and a pre-processed batch auction. The pre-processed batch auction is developed to try to have the advantages of both the continuous double auction and the batch auction. The simulated grid is calibrated to a real e-waste grid where each node has a performance index. This grid is a test grid of eight nodes of heterogenous computer hardware and with differing computational ability and energy usage resulti!
ng in differing performance indexes. We simulate the auction types under the same task input streams. We consider a task impulse response stream on energy usage and time to complete all tasks and a input stream step response. Finally we consider the three auction allocation mechanisms under a random task stream. The paper finds that the choice of auction method makes a substantial difference in the time to complete tasks and in total energy consumption.

Abstract: The maximum entropy method (MEM) is a relatively new technique for solving underdetermined systems. Network design and analysis is an untractable problem and it almost always involves underdetermined systems, which makes it a good candidate for the MEM application. It is intuitively clear that the optimal network should not have overloaded or underutilized links. The maximum entropy constraint, which favors uniform distribution, gives a starting topology and routing with smoothly distributed traffic that would lead to the solution that is closer to the optimal. An algorithm is developed and presented here which determines the variables and equations that adjust network design problem for the MEM aplication. Based on the feasible routing, underutilized links are excluded and parameters that alow guidance of the optimization proces are introduced. The problem is computationally feasible and gives promissing results.

Abstract: One of the most important targets of the leadership is preventing and identification of the errors and frauds. The cost of the possible control measures must be compared with the probability of appearance of such fraud or error and the consequences. A sever flood was occurred on the 31 of March 2009 in the city of Qom, Iran, enhancing the climate change impacts of this event on the holly place of Hazerat Masome, situated in the bank of the Qomrud river with more than 1300 years last. Abstract: This paper presents a comparative study of the hybrid models, neural networks and nonparametric regression models in time series forecasting. The components of these hybrid models are consisting of the nonparametric regression and artificial neural networks models. Smoothing spline, regression spline and additive regression models are considered as the nonparametric regression components. Furthermore, various multilayer perceptron algorithms and radial basis function network model are regarded as the artificial neural networks components. The performances of these models are compared by forecasting the series of number of produced Cars and Domestic product per capita (GDP) data occurred in Turkey. This comparisons show that hybrid models proposed in this paper have denoted much more excellent performance than the hybrid models in literature.

Abstract: In this work we present two systems with non-linear neo–Hookean components. In such systems there always exists an element with a non-linear characteristic equation. This element can be considered to be a rubber or another equivalent structure. We shall prove that the utilization of a neo–Hookean element will not destroy the properties of the structure, but it riches these properties and it could be a good solution in many cases. The first model describes a quarter of an automobile and the second one is dedicated to a half-automobile model. We obtain the equilibrium positions, study their stability in the most general case and for the first model we also discuss the stability of the motion. In the paper there are also numerical applications.

Abstract: The local geometric properties such as curvatures and normal vectors play important roles in analyzing the local shape of objects. The result of the geometric operations such as mesh simplification and mesh smoothing is dependent on how to compute the normal vectors and the curvatures of vertices, because there are no exact definitions of the normal vector and the discrete curvature in meshes. Therefore, the discrete curvature and normal vector estimation play the fundamental roles in the fields of computer graphics and computer vision. In this paper, we propose new methods for computing normal vector and curvature well, which are more intuitive than the previous methods. Our normal vector computation algorithm is able to compute the normal vectors more accurately and is available to meshes of arbitrary topology. It is due to the properties of local conformal mapping and the mean value coordinates. Secondly, we point out the fatal error of the previous discrete!
curvature estimations, and then propose a new discrete sectional-curvature estimation to be able to overcome the error. The method is based on the parabola interpolation and the geometric properties of Bezier curve. It is confirmed by experiment that the normal vector and the curvature generated by our algorithm are more accurate than that of the previous methods.

Abstract: Detecting anomalies that disrupt the symmetry in two-way communications is an important task for network defense systems. The subtlety and complexity of anomalous traffic challenge the existing detection methods, and the bottleneck is how to select thresholds to adapt to the variability in network traffic. In this paper, a nonparametric adaptive CUSUM (Cumulative Sum) method is presented to meet this challenge. It has three distinct features. (i) No assumption is made on the distribution of the observations. (ii) Its detection threshold is self-adjusted so that it can adapt itself to various traffic conditions. (iii) It can react to the end of an anomaly within a required delay time. Several practical expressions for evaluating this method on its probability of false alarms and detection delays are deduced. Experiments on source-end defense against SYN flooding attacks show the efficacy of this method in detecting low intensity anomalies.

Abstract: The modern design of office buildings shows a tendency to increase the window share per facade to be more impressive with grand visibility and well daylit rooms. An increased window share in general results in an increased use of energy and costs for cooling, but these disadvantages can be reduced with a more careful design. The aim of this paper is to show the influence of window design and room layout on cooling demand and daylight availability in office buildings in Northern Europe. The results in the paper are based on design calculations for two different room types and daylight measurements on two room scale models in a daylight laboratory. Calculations show the influence of window design parameters on the cooling demand. The daylight measurements show the influence of window design parameters on the availability for daylight. The results have then been combined to show feasible window design regarding daylight availability and resulting cooling demand f!
or different window orientations. The results show that, in most cases, it is possible to find a combination of window share and window solar factor that is feasible from daylight as well as cooling point of view. The main finding is that there is a smaller or wider range of feasible design for different window orientations. Here, the product of window share and solar factor is introduced as a guideline to find feasible designs.

Abstract: In this paper neural network based approach is discussed to generate the spatial distribution of snow accumulation using multi-channel Special Sensor Microwave/Imager (SSM/I) data. Five SSM/I channels (19H, 19V, 22V, 37V, and 85V) were used to remotely sense snow accumulation during 2001/2002 winter season. Snow depth measurements were obtained from the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) through the Cooperative Observer Network for snow monitoring in the United States. The snow depths were compiled and gridded into 25 km x 25 km grid to match the final SSM/I spatial resolution. The neural network based approach was tested and compared with the filtering algorithm developed by Grody and Basist [1] in the Northern Midwest region of the United States. The results indicate that the neural-network-based approach has a great potential in identifying snow pixels from SSM/I data by providing a significant improvement in snow mapping accuracy over the filtering algorithm.

Abstract: Machine Vision for industrial applications requires simple-to-use and robust solutions. Usually industrial machine vision solutions are reduced to a simple 2D application, for which algorithm robustness has already been fully demonstrated, and where a key part of all those visual inspection systems is the efficient illumination control systems that ensure the repeatability of captured image intensity. Nevertheless these projects sometimes require the 3D information for applications such as pick and place robotics, and this field of applications is not yet covered by most of the commercial industrial vision brands. We present in this paper a new fast, precise and robust 3D localization method based on object edge. This process offers an infinite number of possible cases of industrial applications when 3D localization is required, but could also be employed for classification since 3D localized object conserves its almost whole extracted edge. For example, in case of!
the food industry, fruits are selected depending on their size and could require a 3D localization process because of the random distribution on a conveyor belt. The presented industrial machine vision system is easy and fast to implement. As detailed in the final part of this paper, the computed statistics demonstrate the robustness and precision of this system, which results an inexpensive solution for industrial applications.

Abstract: Most of the time, the strength structures who have not been statically determined, cut to the right sized, and checked out by the classic methods of the material strength cause the over sizing, because specialists use approximate measurements in order to decrease the number of mathematical calculation. This paper work describes the optimization of the main beam of a strength structure of a traveling crane used in metallurgy – by using the OPTSTAR mode that the COSMOS/M calculation software encloses ehich uses finite elements. In order to accomplish the best suited size, we have to perform both an analytic and experimental study about the performance of the traveling crane. In order to do that, we analyze the state of the tensions and deformation of the strength structure by using this calculation software based on COSMOS finite elements. In order to validate the analytic study, we have performed some industrial experiments by using specific devices for measuring th!
e resistance of the electrical tension. Both the analytic and experimental studies have pointed out that we are able to come up with the best sizes in order to reduce the material consumption we used during the production process of the main beam within the strength structure of the traveling crane we have analyzed.

Abstract: Employers nowadays place main concern on and give emphasis to employability skills in potential engineers which caused a significant increase in unemployment among engineering graduates in Malaysia. There are several discussions and studies on "What types of skills and abilities are needed in the workplace?" How the government and higher education overcomes this rising phenomenon? This study attempts to look into engineering employability skills that have been required for their new engineers by other countries in Asia such as Malaysia, Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong. This paper will put forward a list comprised of the essential skills needed by these four countries, and compare the existing similarities and differences of these enlisted skills. Information was gathered from articles, journals, papers and reports. The findings indicate that these countries have published reports on the necessary frameworks of employability skills to prepare engineering graduates fo!
r the employment today and in the future. Overall, the studies suggest that the engineering graduates should acquire a set of generic skills such as communication skills, problem solving and interpersonal skills.

Abstract: Rapid and drastic changes in economic growth nowadays are creating higher demands for employability skills in the workforce. Labour market becoming more competitive and depends on quality of knowledge and skills as the globalisation come across in all industry. Employers have high expectations on fresh engineering graduates to perform in their organisation as soon as they are hired. Engineering employability skills are therefore necessary for Malaysia industry to remain competitive in global market. The study investigates the perception of the level of satisfactory on skills owned by engineering graduates in work place, and the expectation of employers on the level of important for each skills required in engineering graduates for future employment. The finding indicates that the majority of those companies employing graduates have been satisfy with the knowledge and skills of the graduates they hired. They expected for new engineers are very important to be equipp!
ed with relevant employability skills and abilities. Employers' perception and expectation play an important role in determining the employability skills needed. Besides, the results provide valuable insight of as they effort towards getting employed with competitive company.

Abstract: A compartmental model of the sensory activation process in the biosensor of angular motion of the head is presented. The functional and numerical parameters of the model have been identified by physiological and morphological experiments. Model includes four compartments and comparison with experimental results of Fernandez and Goldberg [1] that describes the changes in the firing frequency of the primary afferent neurons of the left lateral semicircular canal in response to a mechanical stimulus as trapezoi-dal-shape changes of angular velocity when the head turns around the vertical axis. Our model shows that the biosensor of angular mo-tion of the head must include at least a pair of semicircular canals in each plane considered in the system.

Abstract: Image Fusion is a process of combining the relevant information from a set of images, into a single image, wherein the resultant fused image will be more informative and complete than any of the input images. This paper discusses the implementation of three categories of image fusion algorithms – the basic fusion algorithms, the pyramid based algorithms and the basic DWT algorithms, developed as an Image Fusion Toolkit - ImFus, using Visual C++ 6.0. The objective of the paper is to assess the wide range of algorithms together, which is not found in the literature. The fused images were assessed using Structural Similarity Image Metric (SSIM) [10], Laplacian Mean Squared Error along with seven other simple image quality metrics that helped us measure the various image features; which were also implemented as part of the toolkit. The readings produced by the image quality metrics, based on the image quality of the fused images, were used to assess the algorithms. We !
used Pareto Optimization method to figure out the algorithm that consistently had the image quality metrics produce the best readings. An assessment of the quality of the fused images was additionally performed with the help of ten respondents based on their visual perception, to verify the results produced by the metric based assessment. Coincidentally, both the assessment methods matched in their raking of the algorithms. The Pareto Optimization method picked DWT with Haar fusion method as the one with the best image quality metrics readings. The result here was substantiated by the visual perception based method where it was inferred that fused images produced by DWT with Haar fusion method was marked the best 63.33% of times which was far better than any other algorithm. Both the methods also matched in assessing Morphological Pyramid method as producing fused images of inferior quality.

Abstract: Gas turbine engine efficiency can be increased by the improvements of the cooling air system. In this study, gas turbine preswirl cooling system is computationally analyzed using a validated three-dimensional quasi-steady model. In the first phase of the study, the system is analyzed with respect to different operating conditions, for understanding its behavior. In this part, the dependence of the discharge coefficient and the temperature drop on the inverse of the swirl ratio parameter are employed to characterize the system. In the second phase of the analysis, the possibilities of improving the system performance is investigated by implementing different modifications on the system geometry.

Abstract: From the single core to the dual core and then to multicore homogeneous processor, the next step could be the heterogeneous processor where different researches are going on. But whatever the processor, it is necessary to use the processor more efficiently and obtain maximum utility while used in the real time system. Even thou there are many schedulers available, almost every scheduler are not giving the maximum performance when used in real time system when there is an overload. To overcome this, an innovative approach has been used in this paper which gives the maximum utility when compared to the other related schedulers available. The program is split and grouped together in the initial stage, and a section code is tested for the entire cluster of code and using the feedback loop the miss ratio is identified. The major work of the paper is selecting the desired algorithm and fixing to the desired core in the heterogeneous multicore processor. So if a deadline !
is not met by any one of the core, then the scheduler submits it to the next core of high or low end speed using the feedback control framework This gives a wider spectrum when double check is done for each code before it is used in the real time system avoiding the miss ratio and obtaining the maximum utility. The paper uses operating system scheduler algorithm over the control system methodology for its design and scheduling.

Firstly, a new control scheme is proposed, establishing the classifier of the steel strip flatness signals is the basis of the scheme. The fuzzy clustering method is used to establish the classifier. Getting the high quality clustering prototypes is one of the key tasks. Secondly, a kind of new fuzzy clustering model, generalized fuzzy C-means clustering (GeFCM) model, is proposed and used as the mining tools in the real applications. The results, under the comparisons with the results obtained by the basic fuzzy clustering model, show the GeFCM is robust and efficient and it not only can get much better clustering prototypes, which are used as the classifier, but also can easily and effectively mine the outliers. It is very helpful in the steel strip flatness quality control system in one real cold rolling line. Finally, it is!

Abstract: Standard IEEE802.16e WiMAX is proposed as an attractive wireless communication technology for providing broadband access. For the network and application-level capacity and perform-ance analysis, we first provide an overview of WiMAX network ar-chitecture. Afterward we discuss the benefits and challenges of flat architecture for mobile networks. In this kind of architecture the ac-cess service network gateway and base stations are consolidated into a single channel. All-IP flat architecture is a promising option. When supporting both voice and TCP in a mobile WiMAX net-works, there are two conflicting goals: to protect the VoIP traffic and to completely utilize the remaining capacity for TCP. We inves-tigate the interaction between these two traffics. The solution is to control TCP traffic before entering WiMAX network. Finally, we emphasize that TCP variants, priority queues, bandwidth limitation and traffic shaping do not always achieve the coexistence goals.

Abstract: The Osorio and Glover (2003) use of dual surrogate analysis is exploited to fix variables in capacitated facility location problems (CFLP). The surrogate constraint is obtained by weighting the original problem constraints by their associated dual values in the LP relaxation. A known solution is used to convert the objective function in a constraint that forces the solution to be less or equal to it. The surrogate constraint is paired with the objective function to obtain a combined constraint where negative variables are replaced by complemented variables and the resulting constraint used to fix binary variables in the model.

Abstract: Built-in self-tests are the heart of any modern reliability tests. Their applications are ranging from cryptography and bit-error-rate measurements, to wireless communication systems employing spread spectrum or code division multiple access techniques. However the strict time constraints limit the complexity of the tests as such, that multiple compression methods via a parallel LFSR (Linear Feedback Shift Register) signature analyzer exist. This paper's purpose is to raise awareness of the issue to propose a common framework for the identi&#64257;cation of pattern resistant logic as well as a means to ensure a more stable and safe fault tolerance using a ROM (Read Only Memory) memory as a look-up table. The alternative proposed method for implementing BIST (Built In Self Test) avoids the use of advanced compression algorithms and needs very little hardware overhead so having small cost and die size.

Abstract: Probability density function (PDF), moments of signal and amount of fading (AF) at the output of macrodiversity system in closed form are obtained. Moreover, level crossing rate (LCR) of signal at output of macro diversity system is analytically derived and used to study average fade duration (AFD) of the proposed system. Dual maximal-ratio combining (MRC) is implemented at the micro level (single base station) and selection combining (SC) with two base stations (dual diversity) is implemented at the macro level. This model assumes a Nakagami-m density function for the envelope of the received signal and a gamma distribution to model the average power to account for the shadowing. The results are shown graphically for different signal and fading parameters values.

Abstract: In this paper, an improved single multiple-voltage (SMV) detection technology based on cascaded H-bridge(CHB) multilevel inverter-based static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) is introduced and it is realized using a Filed Programmable Gate Array(FPGA) by delay technology. The advantage of the improved SMV detector is that, it could save a lot of voltage sensors by using the inverter output voltage to detect the dc capacitor voltage of each H-bridge unit, meanwhile, it could get their mean value more accurately. Take into account delay time in detection circuit and control circuit, in order to transform this detection technology into practice, a novel delay technology is studied. Based on delay technology, an implementation method of the improved SMV detector using a FPGA is also introduced. The experimental results prove its feasibility and practicality.

Abstract: The technologies of Blog, (a common name for web logs) have recently raised interests in the educational arena. The aim of this study is to empirically identify and understand the patterns of Biology practice teachers¡¦ peer interaction in a Blog community. A case study method is adopted in the study, using social network analysis, we analyzed how 65 practice teachers from different educational levels developed collaborative reflective social networks, when they had write reflective notes, and receive feedbacks from peers and university advisors during their practice year. The results showed that the density of interactions was large individual differences in regard to participation within the Blog. The analysis revealed that practice teachers from university of education in Biology dominated discourse interaction. An important characteristic of practice teachers' culture of interaction was that practice teachers from Bachelor¡¦s level major in Biology interacted m!
ainly within their respective groups. It is concluded that social network analysis provided new information about patterns and structures of practice teachers' interaction culture within the Blog.
