Abstract: Manufacturing Execution System (MES) is the key information management system of shop floor manufacturing management and the information bridge between Enterprise Resource Planning system (ERP) and Shop Floor Control system (SFC). This paper analyzed the problems existed in the early Component-based Manufacturing Execution System in modern manufacturing environment, and the advantages of the system constructed by Service-Oriented architecture. Based on the flexible and re-construction requirements of the MES system and the merits of the Service-Oriented architecture, this paper put forward a Service-Oriented Manufacturing Execution System, presented the Multi-Layer Service-Oriented MES system framework. Furthermore, some of the key issues which are important to construct the Service-Oriented Manufacturing Execution System are described in detail, including having a detail discussion on the modeling approach and technologies based on IDEF0, BPM, UML and Service-Orie!
nted analysis and design methodology, and constructing the function model, process model, component model and service model of the MES system using this method, researching on the integration framework and integration strategy of the MES system based on Service-Oriented architecture, and integrating MES with Enterprise Resource Planning system and Shop Floor Control system . Finally, based upon the framework and key technologies discussed above, an actually example (SFMIS) is provided
