Abstract: Lake Izabal is the largest in-land water body of Guatemala with great importance for the country due to the ecological, social, and economic interest. It has many environmental problems due to the pressure of population, agriculture, fisheries and mining in its catchment and basin area. In addition, the lack of sampled available data makes quite difficult any kind of physical and environmental study. Authors make use of the few existing data sets, together with remote sensing imagery and numerical modeling, to build a methodology for its study developing ready-to-apply environmental diagnostic tools.
