Abstract: Abstract - The locality of Cisnãdioara is situated in the proximity of the town of Cisnãdie, at an approximately 2 km distance west of it and at a 10 kilometer distance of the city of Sibiu. The access from Sibiu first takes place along the county road to Rãºinari, then 5 km along the road to the locality. The settlement is situated on a gentle slope, the type of relief being hilly. A donation document of the year 1223 is the first reference attestation on Cisnãdioara, through this fortified basilica on the top of the hill, finished that year, which had been donated to the Cistercian monastery from Cârþa by Magister Goulinus. Its natural and anthropic patrimony are a source of utmost attraction. The name of the locality is known as Michelberg which comes from German. The area is dealing with environment problems, due to factors which are the direct consequence of the economic degradation and, at the same time, due to factors that come from the utilization of the en!
vironment for tourism and pleasure [9, 11]. As far as the present period of crisis from Romania is concerned, the strategy for the environment protection in the area is well anchored in development programmes and strategies and also partnerships with the E.U. The concrete, not formal application of the environment legislation is imperatively demanded, the juridical norm in force forming a solid juridical report, because the environment is a global system. The paper also focuses on elements of social geography with applications in the rural environment.
