Abstract: In this paper the application of two different multivariable PID (MPID) controller tuning methods to wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) with pre-denitrifying process based on an activated sludge process (ASP) are compared. The two methods are those suggested by Davison and Penttinen-Koivo. Both of the methods are suitable for multi-input multi-output (MIMO) control loops but in this study the Multivariable PID controller is designed using the methods both for a two input two output and a three input three output system. The resulted designs are then compared using time domain simulations.
