Abstract: The world is witnessing the migration from analogue to digital broadcasting in the UHF band below 1 GHz. This had lead to the creation of the Digital Dividend spectrum band. The opportunity for mobile service to occupy the Digital Dividend space had led to wide research area to come out with a preferred channel assignment for the mobile service in the Digital Dividend band. The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), European Radiocommunication Office (ERO), Asian pacific telecommunity (APT) and other recent research that had been recently submitted proposals regarding the preferred frequency channel assignment, and other compatibility studies. All proposals will be reviewed on the next World Radio Conference 2012.In this paper we provide an overview on the current proposal for the frequency channel assignment .First we provide the benefit of the Digital Dividend along with the difficulties that arise with the creation of Digital Dividend. Then technical analy!
sis conduct on different frequency channel assignment by different organization and researchers. A comparison between on the different channel assignment is made. The study shows that region 3 will not have a harmonized frequency channel assignment although the APT channel assignment approach is more favorable than European frequency channel assignment. Finally, the Malaysian Digital Dividend was proposed as a case study along with its strong and weak points had been covered.
