Abstract: A micro grid (MG) is a controllable small-scale power system comprised of distributed generation sources (DGSs), storage devices, controllers, switchgears, protective devices, and loads. This concept can be implemented in remote locations to raise the reliability of electric power service. For this reason, the current study develops the operating policies of a MG with one or two DGSs. The DGSs in MGs can be sustained energy sources (SESs) or intermittent energy sources (IESs). The combination of DGSs in a MG is different, as well as the operating policy for this MG. In this paper, two operating policies for MGs are presented. One is suitable for MGs comprised of only one SES, and the other is suitable for MGs comprised of both SESs and IESs. To examine the feasibility of these operating policies, a sample MG is employed and is simulated using MATLAB/Simulink. The important simulation results are presented and discussed in this paper.
