Abstract: Input Shaping is an effective method for reducing the oscillatory motion of flexible systems. However, hard non-linearities, such as rate limiting, can reduce the effectiveness of input shaping at suppressing oscillation. The aim of this paper is to quantify these effects for commonly used input shapers. The results provide a guideline to designers of input-shaped systems. Mitigation techniques are discussed.
