Abstract: Power control is an effective way to save energy and decrease collision in the ad hoc networks based on IEEE 802.11. In this work, the low battery wireless nodes follow a transmission power-saving mode in order to increase the operating time for that node. The data of the low-battery-level node will be sent to a nearer node, which requires lower transmission power compared to other nodes. In this paper, a scheme of the power controlled link is proposed and the power/distance issue in WLAN is analysed. Simulation results have proven that the system performance improvements in throughput. The average throughput has been increased by about eight times when the proposed approach is applied. The average power consumption in the entire network is reduced by about 60% in the simulated scenario in this work.
