Abstract: The aim of this paper is to assess the impact of a community of practice, created within a tourism academic environment, on the development of urban tourism in the city of Timişoara. Our main hypothesis consists in the advantages of students' implication and participation in the conception and application of feasible projects meant to increase the visibility of urban tourism. Both students and the local community would benefit from a successful colaboration between the academic environment and the local population.
