Abstract: 1. Abstract Great competition in the area of trade and the emergence of globalization compel companies to employ the technology used by their competitors to survive; therefore we are facing with an increasing trend in the use of these technologies. One of the latest information technologies used by the organizations is Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). ERP systems have been recognized as the most important development in the corporate use of information technology since 1990 (Davenport, 1998), promising seamless integration of all the information flows throughout a firm. ERP system enables organizations to collect available information in all areas of activity in an integrated and coherent way and provide this data and the results obtained from them to its users at various organizational levels. One of the main users of this information is management accountants. Burns and Vaivo (2001, pp. 389-390) identified four particular roles in their summary of literature!
on the changing role of management accountants – the provider of cost information, the controller/scorekeeper, the internal business consultant providing business support and the member of the strategic management team. Management Accountants are constantly trying to solve problems and direct managers using the integrated information provided by this system as well as their competitors' strategic financial and non-financial information. Due to the upward trend of using ERP systems and its introduction into Iranian organizations, in this study we review and evaluate the role of accountants in the implementation of Enterprise Resource Planning system. The results suggest that the accountants have appositive role in the implementation of ERP.
