Abstract: Abstract—Brain event-related oscillations are one of the promising candidates explaining the neural mechanisms at central nervous system in Parkinson's patients (PP) and healthy subjects (HS). Brain oscillations at specific frequencies and times provide a window into the organization and transfer of information underlying such processes in the human brain. They provide temporal and spatial codes for information processing and give a useful tool for detecting subtle abnormalities in cognitive processes. This study reports auditorily elicited gamma brain oscillatory responses in association with sensorimotor and cognitive processes quantified by means of event-related desynchronization / synchronization (ERD/ERS) method. The differences between the ERD/ERS responses at gamma frequency band (ã, 32.1-50 Hz) for PP and HS during auditory discrimination tasks (low and high tones) are of relevance to the understanding of these cortical functions. Gamma-ERD were revealed i!
n HS everywhere after either tone during sensory and cognitive information processing except for frontal gamma-ERS after a high tone during the cognitive processing. When comparing the PP and HS during the sensory processing, gamma-ERD was observed in PP except for fronto-parietal ERS after a low tone. During cognitive processing, either tone, prominent gamma-ERS was revealed everywhere for PP.
