Abstract: For a system of a given shape, there exists a critical size for which the rate of production of neutrons from fission reactions just equals the rate of removal of neutrons. For a long cylindrical rod, using parabolic transient Fick¡¦s laws of diffusion and simultaneous autocatalytic reaction, a critical radius for the system can be calculated as: Where ƒÑ1 is the first zero of the zero-order Bessel function J0, k1¡¨¡¦ is the autocatalytic first order reaction rate and DAB binary neutron diffusivity. This limit is referred to as the shape limit of nuclear fuel rod. Above this size, autocatalytic runaway can be expected. The transient concentration profile in a long cylindrical rod during simultaneous diffusion and autocatalytic reaction using the generalized Fick¡¦s laws of molecular diffusion and relaxation was derived. A lower limit on the radius of the fuel rod is obtained in order to avoid cycling of concentration ni the time domain during transience. !
The lower limit on the radius of the long cylindrical rod subject to simultaneous autocatalytic reaction and diffusion exist and found to be . Closed form analytical solution for transient concentration profile for simulataneous autocatalytic reaction and finite speed diffusion is derived using the method of separation of variables and by the method of Laplace transforms. The solution is bifurcated. At large relaxation times, the time portion of the solution is cosinous albeit damped by the decaying exponential. Both the cycling limit and shape limits have to be considered during design of nuclear fuel rod systems. The shape limit was derived from steady state considerations. The lower cycling limit was derived from transient finite speed diffusion considerations.

Abstract: Mathematics at an undergraduate level is frequently presented to the students in quite a traditional way. When implementing the Bologna education reform in Portuguese universities, the number of contact hours of the courses decreased (considerably in some cases), therefore increasing the need of a more self-responsible learning by the student. This means that the student has to work by himself (i.e., outside lectures and examples classes) on a regular basis. In practice this implies that the lecturer is supposed to plan the students work, in principle weekly basis. In this paper we intend to describe an experience made at the Department of Mathematics for Science and Technology of the University of Minho in Portugal. Using an e-learning platform specially designed for teaching Mathematics called Maple T. A., we designed, programmed and made available for the students various sets of exercises organized in Question Banks on the course of Calculus. We also make a com!
parison of alternative ways to program the questions of a questions bank. The advantage of this platform is that if properly designed, the questions can be always different and with different methods of solving (because of the use of random variables), the student can do it whenever and wherever he is (he does it via internet) and it feedback is made available to the students as soon as he submits the exercise. At the end of the academic year and with the aim of being able to evaluate how did the students feel about this experience, the students were given a survey implemented on the e-learning platform. The results obtained from this survey strongly suggest, among other things, that using Maple T.A. helped the students in the study of the course of Calculus, and that it helped to achieve better results on the course.

Abstract: Abstract—In this paper we discuss a novel accurate method for computing transonic flow over lifting and non-lifting aerofoils as governed by the steady K´arman-Guderlay equation. The method is based on using finite-differences in the streamwise direction combined with spectral collocation in the other direction. This is combined with Newton iteration and a direct method for the resulting linear system. The method is fast and very robust and we are able to compute steady flows with strong shocks. Some examples considering both the symmetric and the non symmetric cases are shown and grid size study is also presented. The work has been extended to discuss the stability of the computed flows using methods based on a global stability analysis. This leads to a generalized eigenvalue problem and some results are presented. One advantage of the current approach is that for small grid sizes it is possible do the analysis using MATLAB.

Abstract: The selected mixed bacterial culture was attached to the nitrate selective ion exchange resin - Lewatit M600 (NSI) and used for investigation of nitrate removal from the surface Cetina water (SCW). The investigated system enables bonding of nitrate ions and simultaneously, the degradation of bonded nitrate. The nitrate adsorption on NSI was studied and described with the Freundlich isotherm. With the use of bacterial cells attached on NSI, the nitrate (50 - 200 mg NO3-N/L) was completely removed from the SCW, at a methanol to nitrate-N mass (C/N) ratio of 4.5:1, during 4-7 hours at pH = 7.2 and 25 °C under static anoxic conditions. The influence of initially present methanol on the denitrification process was investigated and the required C/N ratio of 2.5:1 was determined, although the denitrification process was faster in the presence of increased C/N ratios. The applicability of the bacteria attached to the NSI for fast and efficient nitrate removal from the surf!
ace Cetina water at different temperatures was further investigated. The denitrification rates were calculated according to the zero -order reaction model. The activation energy, EA and Arrenius factor, Ar for denitrification were 11.40 kJ/mol and 1790.05 mg NO3-N/Lh, respectively.

Abstract: The European Commission placed e-learning on the top of its political agenda, calling for education and training systems to be adapted to meet this challenge. Abstract: Abstract: -The open nature of the social network sites facilitates many opportunities for children but also makes them vulnerable for abuses from various parties. Obscenity, hate speech, and indecent contents that are not suitable for children are very common in the social network sites. The Malaysian, Spanish and Australian government regulate these contents as they regulate the contents in other traditional mass media. Abstract: Since the 1960s, lots of scholars had begun to research in the portfolio selections based on the theory of mean-variance of Markowitz portfolio and relevant methods. All of these studies are under certainly of the assumption term, and then the researchers can get efficient set of portfolio selection. However, alone with the finance environment increasing of complexity, it is becoming more complex to build a model of portfolio selection, which requires further inquiries on its part based on the fact. In this paper, a new model of portfolio selection is proposed, and it is based on the fuzzy goals between risk and return which is made up of subjective measure factors. These factors can represent the investors¡¯ subjective thinking, and they are given before building the model of portfolio selection. Therefore, this goal will not change with the change of the portfolio strategy. The theory and empirical studies show that the new model is close to the practical finance!

Abstract: The optimal placement of base stations in a two tiered wireless sensor network (WSN) can reduce the energy consumption of sensor nodes (SN) and thus can improve network lifetime. In our paper, we address the base station location problem and provide a geometrical solution introducing a new concept called node partitioning technique. Abstract: Maximizing the profit and minimizing the loss notwithstanding the trend of the market is always desirable in any investment strategy. The present research develops an investment strategy, which has been verified effective in the real world, by employing self-organizing map neural network for mutual funds tracking the trends of stock market indices according to macroeconomics indicators and weighted indices and rankings of mutual funds. Our experiment shows if utilizing strategy 3 according to our model during a period from January 2002 to December 2008 the total returns could be at 122 percents even though the weighted index fell 22 percents during the same period and averaged investment returns for random transaction strategies stand at minus 25 percents. As such, we conclude that our model does efficiently increase the investment return.

Abstract: MPEG-4 standard has been developed to support a wide range of multimedia applications. It provides users a new level of interaction with visual contents, including techniques to view, access and manipulate objects rather than pixels with great error robustness at a wide range of bitrates. The object-based representation paradigm make MPEG-4 a standard that may find application from low bitrate personal mobile communications to high quality studio production. One topic common to most applications is the need for supporting interactivity with different kind of data. A prime example is the introduction of Digital TV (DTV) instead of analog with obvious direct benefit such as improved quality and reliability. DTV delivers interference and distortion free audio and video signals, while achieving much higher spectrum efficiency than analog television. Agreements for the DTV transition are being implemented with different emphasis in various countries, depending on networ!
k and station arrangements, government regulations, and market conditions. DTV increasingly impacts broadcasters, consumers and many related industries. The DTV systems that are now available worldwide, not only deliver crystal-clear picture, and high quality sound, but they also provide various innovative new services and programs, such as electronic program guide, personalized advertisements, control, IP encapsulation, data broadcasting various interactive services. High Definition (HD) programming requires installation of completely new production and distribution equipment and systems. This is a major capital investment for a broadcaster. This work seeks to provide an overview of the influence of MPEG-4 standard on DTV from a perspective in Europe. The first part deals with some practical elements of the MPEG-4 standard. The focuses are on the set of technologies together with visual bitstream. The second part describes DTV development including Digital Video Broadcasti!

origination for DTV. Finally, the third part describes control and encoding for DTV including the corresponding services.

Abstract: Circular time-averaging moiré technique is exploited to hide an image in a background moiré grating. The secret image can be visualized when the encoded image is oscillated around a pre-defined axial point. It is a new visual decoding scheme when the secret image is embedded into a circular moiré grating and can be interpreted by a naked eye. The encoded secret image is not shared into components; this is a one image method. Computational examples are used to demonstrate the functionality of the method. The property of the human visual system to average fast dynamical processes being not able to follow rapid oscillatory motions is exploited to decode the secret image.

Abstract: The paper presents an experimental verification of conventional PI and PID controller design methods. Nine different synthesis techniques were used to control of airflow speed in laboratory model of hot-air tunnel, most of them for both PI and PID version. In the first instance the controlled plant was identified in order to obtain a linear mathematical model and then the controllers were designed using studied methods. The controllers were tested in simulations and subsequently implemented under real conditions. The obtained control results have been compared and analyzed.

Abstract: The interaction of the pro-apoptotic Bax∆C with the excimer-forming lipid, 12-(pyrene-1-yl)-dodecanoic acid (PDA) labeled isolated rat liver mitochondria, caused a decrease in PDA excimer-to-monomer fluorescence emission ratio (E/M). This suggested that BaxΔC caused mitochondrial membrane lipid reorganization. These changes were dependent on the Bax∆C protein-to-mitochondrial lipid ratio. The changes in the fluorescence emission spectra were not attributed to overall changes in the bulk properties of the mitochondrial suspensions or to fluorescence resonance energy transfer between the heme group of cytochrome c and pyrene. These data suggested that BaxΔC increases mitochondrial membrane "microviscosity". Fluorescence anisotropy studies with DPH and TMA-DPH labeled mitochondria independently show reduced rotational dynamics, further supporting this presumed increased membrane "microviscosity". The lifetimes of all probes did not change upon Ba!
xΔC interaction with the mitochondrial membrane, verifying the changes in the dynamics of the probe mobility in the membrane. Another pro-apoptotic protein tBid, a more potent inducer of cytochrome c release, also caused an increase in DPH anisotropy, yet to a lesser extent as compare with equal concentration of BaxΔC. The observed increase in DPH anisotropy caused by BaxΔC-membrane interaction was inhibited by the anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2∆TM. The effects of BaxΔC on the mitochondrial membranes were correlated to cytochrome c release. These findings reflect BaxΔC interaction with the mitochondrial membrane, where the binding of Bax∆C lowers probe mobility and induces major reorganization of mitochondria membrane lipids, possibly a phase transition associated with non-lamellar bilayer structures.

Abstract: The sensor node in Wireless Sensor Network is with the characteristics of low power consumption, but the sensor node can not be rechargeable. Therefore, the consumed of power is limited. How to effectively control the power of the sensor node and extend the life time of the whole network become a very important issue. In this paper, we proposed an optimal sleep control mechanism. When the sensor nodes are set randomly in the entire network and the sleeping probability is determined through the distance between the sensor node and the sink. The proposed mechanism will effectively reduce the frequency of the transmission of the sensor nodes more close to the sink and reach the loading balance of the whole network. However, the sleeping sensor nodes will process their sleeping schedule according to their own residual power and achieve the effectiveness of saving power.

Abstract: Transcription factor Hex (haematopoietically expressed homeobox) is a homeobox protein that regulates differentiation and development of liver and monocyte. Hex consists of three functional domains, N-terminal proline rich domain, homeodomain and acidic C terminal domain. Other than DNA binding, the function of Hex is to repress and activate transcription of target genes using multiple mechanism. However, the structure and function of Hex-C terminal domain is not yet elucidated. Hence, the present structural studies were carried out by NMR spectroscopy in order to understand the function of the Hex-C domain. We deteremined the NMR assignment of backbone and side chains, and obtained 3D structure of Hex-C domain in the presence of GST tag. This is the first paper to present the structure of a protein with GST tag by NMR.

Abstract: In this paper, explicit amplitude and frequency expressions for a Cellular Neural Network with an Opposite-Sign Template (CNN-OST) under oscillation condition are derived and a novel inductorless oscillator circuit with negative feedbacks, based on this simple structure is designed and implemented. Abstract: Simultaneous switching noise (SSN) is a major cause of power integrity (PI) degradation that causes circuits to become unstable and experience errors. As modern ICs operate at higher speeds with higher density and lower voltages, SSN has become a serious issue that must be addressed to ensure system stability during the short rise- and fall-times of the logic transient states. Most traditional designs have generally used decoupling capacitors to reduce SSN. As these capacitors become equivalent series inductances when the system operates at high frequencies, such a technique works against reducing SSN. Therefore, we propose a methodology called the enhanced IBIS model that effectively alleviates the problem of SSN using an evaluation based on the enhanced I/O buffer information specification (IBIS) model with decoupling capacitors and a high-frequency low-impendence circuit. In this study, we showed that SSN from 452 mV, 290 mV, 163 mV, and 301 mV, of IBIS, traditi!
onal decoupling capacitors, IBIS with a high-frequency low-impendence circuit, and HP Simulation Program with Integrated Circuit Emphasis (HSPICE) methodologies, respectively, was effectively reduced by 121 mV of our enhanced IBIS mode as measured by the peak-to-peak value. That is, our new method reduces noise by more than 73.2%, 58.3%, 25.7%, and 59.8% compared to other four methodologies, respectively.

Abstract: The femoral neck fractures are the most common problem of the older age. The typical fracture associated with the older age is due to osteoporosis. Researchers worldwide have applied different techniques to estimate the risk of fracture associated with the bone density. The values of the BMD (Bone mineral density) measured for the patients are correlated to the fracture risk. But the issue of appropriate BMD normative data for Indians remains open. There is need to study the BMD- fracture relationship in Indians (fracture threshold) to determine the ideal normative data for Indian population. In this paper it was attempted to develop the method to estimate the risk factors associated with the fracture of proximal femur considering BMD along with the femur neck geometry, age related bone properties and loading encountered during the various activities and also the sensitivity analysis of the different factors affecting the risk. Abstract: The computational complexity is found relatively higher in wireless sensor networks (WSN) as multiple sensing nodes send signals to and receive from the sink or neighbor node. The energy of signals gradually decays as signals travel away from the source. This results in low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) which increases the bit-error-rate (BER). The higher values of BER decrease the throughput of the network, which severely distorts communication efficiency of WSN. Generally, low SNR is considered as quality of communication issue, which is merely a misconception. In this paper, we analyze impact of SNR on WSN-security using an assessment technique [1]. We develop an association of SNR to WSN-security using Parameter-Security-Relationship (PSR) scheme [2]. Here, we observe that SNR-Security-Relationship along the SNR-variance (rate of change of SNR-variations) can also be used to extract information about security conditions of a given WSN. Based on simulation results!
, we show that, if a cut-off value of SNR-variance is allocated to a specific application then, a WSN-security can be assessed before some real-time WSN deployment. Our work, in this paper, is a contribution to the preventive security measurements in the field of WSN-security.

Abstract: Unfortunately, the Army and its resources are assumed as the sovereignty factors in most of developing countries in the Asia. These countries include India, Pakistan, Korea and Iran that are in quest of maximizing nuclear or biological arsenals. The political, social, religious or geographical influences in these countries have given their Armies a stronghold in executive systems. The allocation of timeframe for continuing this War-on-Terrorism (WoT) has made it crucial to study and analyze the importance of various factors, which are considered as backbone in these countries to win this war even after the withdrawn of Allied Armies from Middle East, by 2011. During WoT, one of the biggest challenges arose on border areas of India, Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan (IPIA) is the horrible damages by ambushing convoys for fuel supply to Allied Forces, which could enable them to finish WoT much earlier in this region. Such a failure of manual system of defense fleet due !
to security breaches (under the most advanced surveillance by DRONE aircrafts) has been burgeoning alarms for the democratic allied forces. In this paper, we analyze the problem and design a new automated fleet system for this largest defense organization of the country. During our tests, we observe that minimizing the human interactions (i.e. less human resource) in the fleet system makes it less prone to information-breach regarding the fleet condition and its shipping. In addition, the implementation of our proposed fleet system gives very surprising and economically beneficial reports to the organization. We are confident that our work is generally applicable to fleet systems of other developing Asian countries, allied/ non-allied in WoT, who are highly sensitive about their biological, mass-destruction command & control systems.

Abstract: In this present work we present a strategy of navigation of autonomous mobile robots. The proposed path finding strategy is designed in a grid-map forming static unknown environment. We propose an algorithm that provides the robot the ability to move from the initial position to the specified target. First, the robots must perform efficiently some tasks like recognition, decision-making, and action which constitute the principal obstacle avoidance problems. They must also reduce the operator load by using natural language and common sense knowledge in order to allow easier decision making. Finally, they must operate at a human level with adaptation and learning capacities. We propose scheme for path finding from initial position to goal position. The problem can basically be divided into positioning and path planning. Navigation is a major challenge for autonomous mobile robots. Starting out from start position in the grid, the mobile robot can autonomously head fo!
r destination position in the grid to attend the target.The robot moves within the environment by sensing and avoiding the obstacles coming across its way towards the target. The proposed path finding provides the mobile robot more autonomy and intelligence. The proposed method improves the machine intelligence to bring the machine behaviour near the human one in thinking, reasoning and acting. The objective of intelligent mobile robots is to improve machine autonomy. When the mission is executed, it is necessary to plan an optimal or feasible path for itself avoiding obstructions in its way and minimizing a cost such as time, energy, and distance. The simulation part is an approach to the real expected result. The algorithms are implemented in visual basic programming language; whereby the environment is studied in a two dimensional coordinate system .The algorithm permits the robot to move from the initial position to the desired position following an estimated trajectory!

Abstract: The goal of this paper is to study how different TV technologies work, and to compare them. We analyze three different situations: a CRT monitor, a LCD monitor and a LEDs monitor. Using the different monitors' spectral power distributions, we propose a six steps spectral image processing algorithm which converts the spectral image in to XYZ standard and then in to the RGB standard. Finally we colour balance the RGB image in order to eliminate the monitors unwanted render colours hues. On the monitors displays we expect to see the same colours text image. Also we present the monitor's colours properties like: colours saturation, brightness, contrast and sharp.

Abstract: In the present study, wave interaction with double, fixed, vertical, semi-immersed, slotted barriers is investigated numerically. Numerical results concerning obtained with the use of the COBRAS (Cornell breaking Wave and Structures) wave model for regular waves reveal the effects of barriers porosity, relative depth d/L (d: water depth, L: wave length) and relative distance between the two barriers S/L (S: the distance between the two barriers, L: wave length) on the hydrodynamic characteristics (wave transmission, reflection, dissipation, velocity field, turbulence kinetic energy field). Numerical results concerning wave transmission, reflection, dissipation against the porosity of the barriers, d/L and S/L are well compared with experimental results by Isaacson et al. [14], revealing the credibility of the wave model. Detailed computed velocities and turbulence kinetic energy in the vicinity of the structure indicate the effects of the special breakwater on the !
flow pattern and the turbulence structure.

Abstract: Trigonometry is a branch of mathematics that deals with relations between sides and angles of triangles. It has some relationship to geometry, though there is disagreement on exactly what that relationship is. For some, trigonometry is just a subtopic of geometry. The trigonometric functions are very important in technical subjects like Astronomy, Relativity, science, engineering, architecture, and even medicine. In this paper, the rectangular trigonometry is introduced in order to be in the future a part of the General trigonometry topic. Thus, the definition of this original part is presented. The rectangular trigonometric functions are also defined. The importance of these functions is by producing multi signal forms by varying some parameters of a single function, different signals and forms are analyzed and discussed. The concept of the rectangular Trigonometry is completely different from the traditional trigonometry in which the study of angles will not be !
the relation between sides of a right triangle that describes a circle as the previous one, but the idea here is to use the relation between angles and sides of a rectangular form with the internal and external circles formed by the intersection of the rectangular form and the positive parts of x'ox and y'oy axis in the Euclidian 2D space and their projections. This new concept of relations will open a huge gate in the mathematical domain and it can resolve many complicated problems that are difficult or almost impossible to solve with the traditional trigonometry, and it can describe a huge number of multi form periodic signals.

Abstract: The city of Palaio Faliro is a suburb of Athens, around 9 km from the city centre of the Greek capital, located on the southern coast of the Athens Riviera with a population of nearly 65.000 inhabitants. The municipality of Palaio Faliro has recently achieved a regeneration of its urban profile and dynamics, which extends on an area of Athens southern costal zone combining historic baths, a marina, an urban park, an Olympic Sports Complex and the tramway. The final result promotes sustainable development and sustainable mobility on the Athens coastline taking into consideration the recent metropolisation of the Athens agglomeration. After a brief history of the municipality, we present the core of the new development. Behind the visible results, we highlight the main interactions among the principal actors that made this change possible, and constitute the main challenges for the future. With this case we learn that while the arrangement of space has its logistic !
difficulties regarding financial and engineering aspects, the deeper challenge is that of exercising democracy justly â€" and even more so, in its own birthplace.

Abstract: This paper presents the application of intelligent optimization techniques for optimal design and analysis of a bi-directional dc-dc converter with synchronous rectification often used in battery charge/discharge circuits in dc uninterruptible power supply systems. Converter models for simulation are designed for the forward and backup modes of operation. The results are analyzed and compared to those of the expected ideal operation to confirm the validity of the models. An objective function of the converter efficiency in the forward mode operation is derived. A constrained optimization on the objective function is performed using Genetic Algorithm (GA), Scatter Search (SS) and Simulated Annealing (SA), and therefore optimal parameters are derived. The design and analysis of the converter are performed using software tools within the MATLAB/ SIMULINK environment for GA. The analysis for SA and SS are performed using codes written in C language. The derived optimal!
parameters of the converter from GA are compared with those obtained using the SA and SS techniques.
