Abstract: In recent years, Knowledge Management (KM) has become increasingly relevant to team administration. In fact, it is a useful approach in keeping together all the different aspects that improve and increase a team's performance. In Open Source (OS) software development teams, KM is important because of the nature of the communities, as knowledge sharing and free access to information are fundamental for the development and the growth of these communities. We focus our attention on the Developers Mailing Lists (DML) of some of the most successful OS projects, in order to analyze the adopted communication practices, finding two very peculiar aspects of these communities: collaborative learning between developers and users, and peer support among advanced users.
