Abstract: Abstract: The design of IP networks to support traffic engineering for both unicast and multicast traffic is a very difficult problem. This paper proposes a heuristic design algorithm called M-MENTOR that concern routing of both types of traffic. However, since multicast traffic model could be employed in many situations and could be managed by various kinds of multicast routing protocols, this paper consider only the design process of the IP networks with following features: (1) network of within the same Autonomous System (AS), (2) routing protocol support multiple weight on each link, (3) the multicast traffic from different sources share the same multicast tree. The efficiency of M-MENTOR is evaluated for various traffic demands and networks of 10, 30 and 50 node and compared with MENTOR-II. The experimental results show that, in almost all cases, M-MENTOR give better performance in term of installation cost.

Abstract: In this paper, a sequential design method is proposed for analyses and designs of multivariable feedback control systems. The overall compensator is implemented systematic- cally with a cascaded layer-wrapped structure and diagonal compensators. The method can take into consideration of stability, integrity, diagonal dominance and performance in a sequential manner. Roots of stability-equations are used to select parameters of compensators in the parameter plane. Three 2x2 and one 4x4 multivariable examples are given and comparisons with the methods in current literature are made.

Abstract: This paper presents a parallel architecture for the solution of linear equations systems based on the Division Free Gaussian Elimination Method. This architecture was implemented in a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). The division-free Gaussian elimination method was integrated in identical processors in a FPGA Spartan 3 of Xilinx. A top-down design was used. The proposed architecture can handle IEEE 754 single and double precision floating-point data and the architecture was implemented in 240 processors. Also, an algorithmic complexity of O(n2) was obtained using a n2 processors scheme that perform the solution of the linear equations. Moreover, the parallel division-free Gaussian elimination method, the architecture´s data distribution and the internal processor-element (PE) architecture are presented. Finally, this paper presents the obtained simulation results and synthesis of the modules designed in very high-speed integrated circuit hardware description !
language (VHDL) using 40 and 100 Mhz frequencies.

Abstract: Abstract Governments worldwide are adopting E-Government to improve their services to businesses and citizens, promoting economic and social development, and enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of government operations. E-Governments can make public services more convenient to citizens, reduce costs and attract investment to their countries. In Jordan, E-Government is a national program that is initiated by His Majesty King Abdullah II. Like other initiatives, it has opportunities and challenges that should be taken into consideration throughout the implementation phase. In this paper, these opportunities and challenges will be investigated by means of informal questionnaires. One thousand questionnaires had been distributed to the private, public, and educational sectors to explore the Jordanians needs of E-Government services and to find out the reasons why they still do not trust in E-Government.

Abstract: This paper described a pre-experiment for the application of a high-brightness LED to a shipboard lighting system. To evaluate the adaptability of the high-brightness LED, a LED luminaire was designed and fabricated, and its illuminance, luminance, colorimetry, CCT (Correlated Color Temperature), and power consumption were compared with those of existing fluorescent and incandescent lamps. According to the experiment results, the prototype LED luminaire showed higher illuminance and 14% and 95% lower power consumption rates (than those of existing fluorescent and incandescent lamps, respectively. It is thus considered that the high-brightness LED would be suitable as a shipboard light source because it can be designed to be moisture-proof and explosion-proof and to have high lighting efficiency. To apply the LED luminaire as shipboard light source, further studies on heat dissipation, the design of the LED luminaire lens, and an EMI counterplan by SMPS (Switching M!
ode Power Supply) should be conducted.

Abstract: In this paper, the potential of high-brightness LEDs as energy-saving light sources in place of metal halide lamps (MHLs) was studied to promote fishery efficiency. The photoreaction characteristics of 20 common squids (scientific name: Todarodes pacificus) in a fish tank when LEDs, each with a different color, and an MHL were irradiated onto them were compared and analyzed. For the experiment, an acrylic fish tank was designed, and red, green, blue, and white 30[W] LED modules and a 1.5[kW] MHL were designed, which had recently been used in squid-jigging ships. From the results of the experiment on the squids¡¯ photoreaction characteristics in accordance with each LED, it was confirmed that the most squids gathered around the light source when blue LEDs were irradiated with wavelengths of 450-490[nm], with excellent seawater penetration characteristics. Also, the results of the comparative experiment of six blue LED modules and an MHL showed similar levels of effi!
ciency in fish-attracting effect.

Abstract: Ship ballast water affects various marine species in the port or near the coast. When ships come in and/or out of the port, the discharged ballast water contaminates the seawater and destroys the marine ecology system. Therefore, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) adopted the Convention on Ballast Water Management in February 2004 and insists that all ships be equipped with a ballast water treatment system beginning in 2010. In this paper, the disinfection characteristics of Tetraselmis sp. were analyzed using a deep ultraviolet light emitting diode (UV LED) as a basic study for the development of a ballast water treatment system. UV LED modules with peak wavelengths at 255, 265, and 280 [nm] were fabricated, and each module was exposed to the same UV dose of 100-400 [mJ/cm2]. The experiment results showed that the highest disinfection wavelength on the Tetraselmis sp. appeared at 265 [nm] with a constant UV dose.

Abstract: In this paper we present a study on mutual interactions between queue management algorithms implemented in Internet routers. The aim of this research was to detect possible issues connected with deployment of the active queue management (AQM) algorithms in the Internet. For that purpose, we simulated a network with four routers and checked its performance in different configurations of queue management algorithms. In particular, three basic configurations were considered: all routers in the network use the passive queue management, only one router in the network uses the active queue management (other routers use the passive queue management), all routers in the network use the active queue management. Six different AQM algorithms were used and tested in two congestion scenarios. In every case the performance of all bottleneck links was observed as well as the average performance of the whole network. In all the simulations, the average performance of the networ!
k, measured in terms of the queueing delay, was improved by when at least one router used an AQM algorithm. Moreover, in most cases the performance of every bottleneck link was also improved. These results give strong arguments for using AQM in the Internet. However, in some experiments we observed a performance degradation of particular bottleneck links when an AQM algorithm was used, indicating that some problems may indeed arise due to the mutual interactions of AQM routers.

Abstract: It is well known that maintaining a stable queue size and high throughput in routers operating in high bandwidth-delay product networks is a difficult task. Fortunately, some newly proposed active queue management solutions (by Sun et al. and Ren et al.) seem to work quite well in such environments. In this paper we demonstrate that two additional factors make the task of achieving a stable queue size and high throughput very difficult. Namely, when the congestion level is low or the target queue size is short, none of the known AQMs performs reasonably well - the queue is very unstable and the throughput often goes far below fifty percent of the link capacity. Therefore, new AQM algorithms, able to work well in such scenarios, are needed.

Abstract: Abstract: - In the present study we have investigated the anthropometrical indices (weight, height, thorax perimeter, cranial perimeter, body mass index) during infancy and their relation to nourishment (food intake, nutritive value of food). The study was performed on a group of 54 children (27 girls and 27 boys), aged between 1.5-3 years, in a children's nursery in Tîrgoviºte, Romania. The methods consisted of a transverse epidemiological inquiry using the anthropometrical indices of infant children and a nourishment inquiry, using the list of food released from the storehouse over 10 days, twice (in October 2008 and February 2009). WHO Child Growth Standards (Geneva 2006) were also used to analyze children's development. The relation anthropometrical indices – nourishment was investigated by aid of linear regression (SPSS 13 program). The anthropometrical indices indicate a decrease to below the minimum values for thorax perimeter and body mass index (BMI) in th!
e age group of 2.5-3 years. According to WHO Child Growth Standards (Geneva 2006), BMIs for age group 2.5-3 years are < 50 percentages for 11.1% of total investigated children and 42.18% of children included in this age group. There are not significant differences of anthropometrical indices between sexes. Nourishment of children is deficient in milk, eggs, animal fats, vegetables, and excessive in meat, cheese and vegetable fats, with normal intake of protein, deficient in carbohydrates and excessive in fats in both periods of the nourishment inquiry. In the second period of nourishment inquiry, food intake is very increased in potatoes, fruits and sugar. There is a statistically significant relation between milk and potatoes with BMI. Milk and potatoes are significant nourishment predictors of children development. Nourishment predictors of anthropometrical indices depend on groups of food, children's age and nourishment inquiry period. No predictor of cranial perimeter d!
evelopment is found. In conclusion, there is insubstantial association
anthropometrical indices–nourishment depending on children's age, group of food and season.

Abstract: The emissions of uncombusted (toxic) gas components and of particulate matter of two different firewood-fueled low power high quality fireplaces were investigated. Complementation of the fireplaces with sensors for combustion temperature, residual oxygen concentration and CO/HC concentration and development of a new strategy of firing process control enabled lowering of the CO/HC-emissions by about 20% (tiled stove) and by more than 80% (central heater). The particulate matter emissions could be simultaneously reduced by about 33% and 66%, respectively. These results demonstrate that the quality of the firing process was effectively improved by sensor based control.

Abstract: An innovative concept of an compressed air energy storage (CAES) plant is developed at the Institute for Heat- and Fuel Technology (IWBT) of the Technische Universität Braunschweig. This concept aims to minimise the negative Aspects of state-of-the-art CAES-plants and is named isobaric adiabatic compressed air energy storage plant with combined cycle (ISACOAST-CC). To increase the storage efficiency, one aspect of this concept is to reduce compressor losses due to high differences of the storage pressure within the cavern by the use of a brine shuttle pond at the surface to drive out the stored air at nearly constant pressure. The main focuses in the presented article are the modelling and the calculation results of the simulation of the isobaric air storage cavern which is used in this concept. Furthermore, the results of a complete dynamic simulation of an ISACOAST-CC cycle are presented. The storage efficiency as well as plant efficiency and specific storage cap!
acity are calculated.

Abstract: Less is known about how equity returns allocated between current and new shareholders are altered to react to chief executive officer (CEO) overconfidence. This paper uses a nonlinear constrained contingent claim methodology of Black and Scholes (1973) and Merton (1974) to explore interest conflicts between current and new shareholders when an overconfident bank CEO overestimates returns on investment projects, and sequentially raises too much in external funds when internal resources become scarce. We show that low levels of bank interest margins or equity returns, which decrease the claims of current shareholders, are associated with investment distortions; but high levels of bank equity returns, which dilute the claims of current shareholders, are associated with external financing distortion.

Abstract: Although regulated by international conventions and specific laws, disposal of garbage in the oceans is a major problems facing the world today. The pollution of the ocean generates environment effects many different areas of society. As an illustration, it represents a healthy risks and both direct and indirectly economic losses. The different types of solid waste produced by port's areas and vessels are potentially oceanic environment polluters. Nevertheless, international trades by sea are an economical need to Brazil's development. That is the reason why it is so important a manager has means to use all his capability to achieve proper management over waste, ie, an effective segregation and special disposal system. Also, given the collective need to ensure the common good, Brazil has specific legislation that requires operators and terminals to meet a set of rules called the "Best Practices in Sanitary Solid Waste Management," which is basically the process of!
environmental management of the material produced in the course of their activities. In other words, the Brazilian law requires carriers and port terminals to perform procedures for segregation, collection, transportation, treatment and disposal of solid waste in accordance with the guidelines laid down in legislation to protect the health and environment. However, few brazilian's ports have the technology required. This article presents a solution to allow identify, track and manage the solid waste produced while exercising activities in the port area.

Abstract: Association rule mining is widely used in the market-basket analysis. The association rule discovery can mine the rules that include more beneficial information by reflecting item importance for special products. Association rule mining could be a promising approach for clinical decision support system by discovering meaningful hidden rules and patterns from large volume of data obtained from the problem domain. The objective of this study was to analyze the muscle activities of different movement patterns on a training system for posture control using an unstable platform through association rule mining methodology. In this research, in order to find relational rules between posture training type and muscle activation pattern, we investigated an application of the association rule mining to the biomechanical data obtained mainly for evaluation of postural control ability. To investigate the relationship of the different movement patterns and muscle activities, fif!
teen healthy young subjects took part in a series of postural control training using a training system that we developed. The electromyography of the muscles in the lower limbs were recorded and analyzed under the different movement patterns. An improved association rule mining methodology was applied to analyze the relationship of the movement patterns and muscle activities. The results showed the significant differences in muscle activities for the different movement patterns. The experimental results suggested that, through the choice of different movement pattern, the training for lower extremity strength could be performed on specific muscles in different intensity. And, the ability of postural control could be improved by the training for lower extremity strength. Through the analysis results, we tried to find the best training method to improve the ability of postural control through improving the lower extremity muscular strength. The discovered rules could be used a!

Abstract: Although regarded as a 'clean' energetic source, hydroelectric power generated from man-made reservoirs may cause environmental impacts. We provided a review on the ecological effects of large reservoirs to fish and fisheries in the Brazilian Amazon rainforest and in the Lower Tocantins River, as a study case. Fisheries are the main source of animal protein and cash income to Amazon people. Some of the large reservoirs may had affected fish and fisheries down-stream from the dam, due to changes in the flooding regime, retention of nutrients in the reservoir and blockage of fish reproductive migrations. Interviewed fishers mentioned impacts of the Tucuruí reservoir in the Lower Tocantins River, such as decrease in the abundance of fish. Nevertheless, some commercial fishes have been able to cope with the reservoir effects, although the composition of fish catches changed compared to pre-impoundment period. Effects of a large dam may extend beyond the reservoir, and !
fishers have knowledge about their aquatic environments and changes to it. The effects of reservoirs on people and fish should be better acknowledged in political decisions regarding energy issues.

Abstract: : High resolution ultrasonic spectroscopy was used to study progressive aggregation and structural changes in diluted aquatic solutions of humic substances over the concentration range from 0.001 g/L to 3 g/L. For this purpose, both sodium salts (fulvates) and protonized forms of fulvic acids and sodium salts of humic acids (humates) were used; the origin of humic substances covered wide range of sources. Obtained results confirmed previously published statement about the progressive aggregation of humic substances in diluted solutions. The method allowing the treatment of obtained data by fractal analysis was developed and tested. Determined dependency of fractal dimension on concentration revealed clear differences in mechanisms of aggregation of individual humic and fulvic samples. In fact the value of fractal dimension 2.5 was determined for the concentration 3g/L; diluting the solution caused increasing in fractal dimension value up to 3 for concentrations aro!
und 0.01 g/L. The increase was not the same for all samples, in fact the most significant fluctuation in this concentration range was observed for fulvic acids. It was found out that despite the prevalence of hydrophobic forces in stabilization of humic substances in diluted solutions, also the nature of the counterion represents one of the crucial factors playing role in conformation and stability of humates and fulvates. In accordance with previous observations based on the measurement of lignite humates, also humates, fulvates and fulvic acids originating from various sources showed the change in their aggregates properties around the concentration 1 g/L.

Abstract: A new approach in the discrete optimization (partitioning and covering) problems is presented based on the expert knowledge presentations. An a priori uncertain information on the alternatives is given by some probability distribution and an a priori certain information on the knowledge competitions is given by some weights. A new criterion is introduced for a minimal fuzzy covering or partitioning problem which is a minimal value of average misbelief in possible alternatives. A bicriterial problem is obtained using the new criterion and the criterion of minimization of average price of the covering or partitioning. The proposed approach is illustrated by an example for the partitioning problem.

Abstract: Integrated land use transportation models have been evolved as the primary metropolitan planning vehicle in the last several decades as the world development and urbanization continues. Urban regions continue planning for development of their urbanized areas using these modeling processes. Land use/demographic forecasting models provide the main input for the travel demand models, yet until recently the rigorous application of such models in the integrated land use transportation process was scanty except for the largest metropolitan areas. Such models require consideration of environmental factors and modeling of metropolitan economic systems. Theoretical and technological advancement of the last few decades has instigated a new wave of attention, research and further developments of the models and techniques from a variety of disciplines. This article briefly discusses the advancements and provides a guideline for their future improvements. It also discusses impo!
rtance of role of national government and legislative mandates in ascertaining quality of planning process by reviewing some excerpts from U.S. legislation.

Abstract: The scope of this work is to identify the dispersion patterns of air pollutant emissions in complex topography, using a steady-state dispersion model. The area under investigation is the Chania plain on the island of Crete in Greece and the modeled industrial source is a power generating plant. The meteorological assessment is based on a two year dataset (August 2004 – July 2006) from six automated surface meteorological stations. Case studies of the predicted ground-level distributions of SO2 are presented for days with commonly observed meteorological phenomena.

Abstract: 18fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (PET) imaging provides information on the biochemical processes that may precede gross anatomic change. PET imaging is potentially useful in tumor imaging in particular due to the uptake of the radiolabeled glucose analog 18fluorodeoxyglucose (18FDG) by tumor tissue as a result of increased glycolysis in some cancers as compared with most normal tissue. [18F]2-Fluoro-2-deoxy-glucose positron emission tomography is an important functional imaging technique for the diagnosis, staging and follow-up of patients with macronodular versus nodular nonsmall cell lung carcinoma. Thus, the authors tried to assess the role of PET-CTi to the staging of the non small cell lung cancer and to demonstrate the diagnose superiority, improveness and accuracy among other image methods such as CT, PET, PET-CTv by analyzing through comparison 2 groups of patients, first with nodules smaller than 3 cm and the second one with nodules larger!
than 3 cm. In a prospective study, integrated PETâ€"CT was performed in 50 patients with proven orsuspected nonâ€"small-cell lung cancer. CT and PET alone, visually correlated PET and CT, and integrated PETâ€"CT were evaluated separately, and a tumorâ€"nodeâ€"metastasis (TNM) stage was assigned on the basis of image analysis. The standard of reference was histopathological assessment of tumor stage and node stage. Extrathoracic metastases were confirmed histopathologically or by at least one other imaging method. A paired sign test was used to compare integrated PETâ€"CT with the other imaging methods. Integrated PETâ€" CT had better diagnostic accuracy than the other imaging methods. Tumor staging was significantly more accurate with integrated PETâ€"CT than with CT alone (P=0.001), PET alone (P<0.001), or visual correlation of PET and CT (P=0.013); node staging was also significantly more accurate with integrated PETâ€"CT than with PET alone (P=0.013).Integrated PETâ€"CT!
improves the diagnostic accuracy of the staging of nonâ€"small-cell l
ung cancer.

Abstract: Detection, recognition and tracking of the players in sports games which is based on image processing and computer vision is the topic of interest of various research groups. Different approaches regarding choice and placement of the acquisition hardware exist. Regardless of whether a custom set of static cameras is used or the images are acquired from directed TV coverage, player detection and tracking is a complex process. Robustness of such a system is the main goal of its designers. In this paper, a modular system for tracking indoor and outdoor team games using computer vision is proposed and described. Proposed approach is flexible and expandable so it can be said that overall system framework provides robustness of detection, recognition and tracking.

Authors as they appear in the Paper: Seyed Saied Bahrainian

Number of paper pages: 14
Abstract: The Euler equations are a set of non-dissipative hyperbolic conservation laws that can become unstable near regions of severe pressure variation. To prevent oscillations near shockwaves, these equations require artificial dissipation terms to be added to the discretized equations. A combination of first-order and third-order dissipative terms control the stability of the flow solutions. The assigned magnitude of these dissipative terms can have a direct effect on the quality of the flow solution. To examine these effects, subsonic and transonic solutions of the Euler equations for a flow passed a circular cylinder has been investigated. Triangular and tetrahedral unstructured grids were employed to discretize the computational domain. Unsteady Euler equations are then marched through time to reach a steady solution using a modified Runge-Kutta scheme. Optimal values of the dissipative terms were investigated for several flow conditions. For example, at a free strea!
m Mach number of 0.45 strong shock waves were captured on the cylinder by using values of 0.25 and 0.0039 for the first-order and third-order dissipative terms. In addition to the shock capturing effect, it has been shown that smooth pressure coefficients can be obtained with the proper values for the dissipative terms.

Abstract: A characteristic of patients with soft tissue sarcomas and osteosarcoma is the aggressive tendency of invasion of the surrounding tissue and precocious hematogenous dissemination, mostly within the lung. Metastases are incurable despite the currently available advanced therapies. We conducted a survey from January 2000 to December 2005 on patients with osteosarcomas (OS) and soft tissue sarcomas (STS)admitted in Cluj-Napoca Oncology Institute and "Leon Daniello" Pneumology Clinical Hospital. We introduced in the study patients diagnosed with sarcomas and pulmonary metastases, we analyzed risk factor and evolution of the diseases with survival function calculated since cancer diagnosis, and the other calculated since pulmonary metastases. Average age of the patients is 24,58 years for osteosarcomas and 48,04 for soft tissueand and did not influence the survival ((p=0,3734 for OS respectivly p=0,450 for STS) .Gender was not pronostic factor (p=0,984 for OS and !
p=0,121 for STS), urban areas was significant statistic for survival before the pulmonary metastases p=0,219 and not significant for survival after the apparition of metastases p=0,366.; time between the first symptoms and the doctor' presentation (more than 1 year) was significant statistic in both survival (p=0.002 ).Tumor localization (for OS p=0,1136 and for STS p=0,3597) primary tumor size STS p=0,040 and p=0,0303 for OS, type of metastases ( for OS p=0,3597, and for STS p =0,283) were analyzed like risk factor for survival . Serum LDH was poor pronostic factor for osteosarcomas for both survivals (p=0,0245 and p=0,0090) but not for soft tissue sarcomas (p=0,236). Performance status, type of metastases, good risk class, response at the treatment influence the survival calculated from tumor diagnosis and the survival calculated from the moment of lung metastases. Because the traditional pronostic factors can not evaluate well the risk of recurrence and dis!
ease specific mortality, the major goals of cancer biology studies are
to identify new pronostic factors and therapeutic targets

Abstract: A regulatory method chosen for setting allowed revenue in transmission and distribution of electricity in Croatia is a traditional Rate of Return method. The main feature and, at the same time, the main drawback of this method is that a price is in a direct relationship with the costs of regulated company. A parameter used in this method, which does not solely depend on the costs and management decisions, is the rate of return. The rate of return is usually calculated using the weighted average cost of capital formula (WACC). The WACC reflects two types of finance used to fund investments, debt and equity respectively. The cost of equity is calculated using the Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM). This Paper provides the WACC calculation based on the estimates of particular parameters which could be applied in the case of electricity transmission and distribution in Croatia. The estimates are given for two scenarios, for the period prior to and immediately after the!
beginning of domestic crisis (reflection of the global financial crisis) and secondly for the period throughout the domestic crisis. Thus, reflecting possible impacts of financial crisis on national and global level on cost of capital in transmission and distribution of electricity.

Abstract: Abstract: - To be successful, environment protection activities require reliable and timely data and information. Following that active approach in preservation of environment, Croatian Environment Agency (CEA) has prepared by-law on Environment Information System. This legal instrument has been adopted by the Government in June 2008 (Official Gazette 68/08) setting up structure, content, format, functionality and Environment Information System (EIS) maintenance manner, together with prescription of data flow mode (delivery terms, means and obligations). Responsibility for by-law implementation lays to the Croatian Environment Agency. As institution responsible for establishment, conduct, development, coordination and maintenance of EIS, in June 2008, Agency initiated research named: Estimation of usage of environmental data and information. Main goals of this research were to determine who is Agency's audience, what is their field of interest, how Agency could ma!
ke modification in presentation of environmental data and information and also to help to perform education more successfully. Also the research has defined the usage of data and information from all sources at the disposal of Agency, as well as usage from other sources established at the national level. Their responses proved to be of great value that would help Agency to make its information system more efficient. Research ended by the end of year 2008 with valuable information that has been used to improve Agency's first approach to general public. By targeting specific environmental topics in the publication, this research provided clearer understanding of purpose in using environmental data and information. Also user profiles and their interest for specific environmental topic became more distinctive. All of these inputs are used to improve access to data and information about the environment and ultimately Agency's publication The Environment in Your Pocket, which is!

Abstract: We are living in an era which is energy intensive. We make use of tremendous amount of energy for every day use. But the available resources of the world are depleting very fast. In today's world usage of energy depicts the level of development of a nation. The energy resources of the world are under severe pressure to cope up with the growing need of energy. The technological changes and changes in the lifestyle have increased the demand for energy tremendously. In view of the pressure on the existing resources of energy, it becomes very important for us to conserve energy or to find out new ways to produce the energy. This article examines way to conserve energy in one of the most energy intensive industries i.e. the spinning. Although there are number of areas where the energy can be conserved, we take a look at only one of them i.e. illumination.

Abstract: The systems are required to understand and present at higher levels of abstractions to perform the changes and meet the current requirements. When the changes are performed, the source code drifts away from the existing available system documentation (specifications, design, manuals), which represent the functionality of the software systems. The software systems are developed using the multi-languages with different dialects and scripts. This paper presents a clustering approach using the available source code, documentation, experience and knowledge about the domain and application to cluster the source code. Abstract: This study was designed to verify the usefulness of the cadmium (Cd) standard regression line (CSRL) in animals uncontaminated with lead (Pb), and to develop a new index for Pb if the CSRL could not be used. Although a significant regression line for Pb was obtained using a total of 69 data points cited in published references, four data points were eliminated by the statistical examination (min-Pb line), and the min-Pb line was significantly different from the CSRL. The data from animals to which Pb was administered and from wildlife obviously polluted with Pb diverged from the min-Pb line. The contents of other heavy metals, chromium, copper, manganese, zinc, arsenic, cobalt and selenium, in normal animals, cited from references, also fell on the min-Pb line, although the data for thallium fell on the CSRL. We named the min-Pb line the 'Mochizuki–Ueda line' because this line may become a widely used index for animals uncontaminated by multiple metals
