Abstract: Monitoring student data and overcome the security issue are among the main challenges for University to improve quality of Management System Monitoring students of Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) movement around the campus is difficult especially for lecturer hall and laboratory access control. By utilizing RFID technology, it is easy to track the student regularly thus enhances the security and safety in selected zone. The application of active RFID in a student monitoring system is to improve faculty and UTHM management system to monitor particular group of students' whereabouts. If there an emergency event such as fire, the university administration can determine the student location faster and efficiently during the chaos to ensure everyone in the safe area. The focus of the paper is to discuss about the development of the system which is called Student Monitoring System Using Active RFID (SMOSA). When the RFID tag passes through the RFID reader,!
the system will record the data from the RFID tag to the database. The university management will easily monitor and update students' attendance, tracking student movement and access specific student personal record. Thus increase the management work quality and reduce clerical work.
