Abstract: During the post-communist period, Romania was predominantly a country of emigration. In 2004, the Romanian authorities adopted a new policy: the National Strategy of Migration. In Romania, the emigration is the results of the liberalization of travel, and the economic and political conditions. It should be mentioned that the EU member states have granted full and unrestricted access for Romanians to their labour markets. In comparison with the EU developed countries, Romania has a modest level of immigration. Those immigrating to Romania are mostly entrepreneurs. Starting 2004, the Romanian labour market began expanding. It was under these circumstances that entrepreneurs started to import foreign workers (especially from Turkey, China, Middle East). As regards the future, in Romania it is expecting a considerable increase of immigration.
