Abstract: The space occupation is a recurring problem in many fields requiring constraint satisfaction as well as optimization of certain factors recognized essential for the performance. The used approaches tend to privilege one of the two aspects (optimization or satisfaction) without to lead to a general solution. In spite of the success of few methods for space occupation problems under constraints, it can be interesting to consider new ways of resolution, in particular methods resulting from Artificial Intelligence (I.A) techniques. The problem is NP-complex, one possibility of overcoming this complexity is to distribute it through several calculating units and to adopt an adequate decisional form for "the best" solution. In order to build and to evaluate possible solutions for this problem category, we propose in this paper a general architecture which can nestle several resolution approaches through agglomerates of specialized solvers. On this basis, a general model o!
f agent solver is provided. Competences and the interactions of agents will be studied and classified according to the space occupation problem types. One case is presented here, the resolution by coalition.
