Abstract: The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship of social intelligence and leadership style in partly and truly global projects. In the present study we explored what leadership style is preferred in virtual projects. Further, the study examined the differential effects of level of virtuality on social intelligence and leadership style. We tested our hypotheses with data collected from project management professional working in five countries. We used linear regression and t-test to analyze the proposed hypotheses. Results showed that social awareness and relationship management were positively related to concern for task and concern for people and was higher in truly global than partly global projects. However, we found no effect of virtuality on leadership. The findings of this study have significant implications for leadership skills and behaviors at project management workplace.
