Abstract: In this paper, we propose a numerical tapping point search based on the model of uniformly distributed RLC wires for constructing an RLC clock tree. A tapping point for two subtrees based on the numerical reduction of the model is always determined for exact zero skew. The characteristic of zero-skew upward propagation for two hierarchical subtrees with bottom-up recursion is proved in a multi-level clock tree. The proposed approach associates DME or MMM method that can construct an exact zero-skew RLC clock tree. IBM and MCNC benchmarks are evaluated by the approach. Experimental results show that we always get zero-skew clock trees in pretty fast run time compared with other approaches. Moreover, the results in terms of clock delay have a small tolerance of 0.385% on average compared with Hspice¡¦s simulation.
Keywords: Clock tree, zero skew, numerical tapping point search, RLC delay model.
