Abstract: Biometric recognition system refers to the automatic recognition of human beings based on their physiological and/or behavioural characteristics. The purpose of this paper is to present and describe the main methods of human face recognition. We proposed a general Automatic Face Recognition (AFR) system framework to illustrate the processing stages of face images. The AFR includes two main phases: the enrolment phase and recognition/verification phase. Different popular and modern algorithms that have been applied on living persons to verify or recognize the identity based on his/her physiological characteristic are reviewed in this paper
