Abstract: - lIn this paper an analytical solution is offered to solve the basic fixed head hydrothermal scheduling problem. By applying Kuhn tucker the equations for optimality is derived. It is proved that the ratio of incremental costs between any two schedules is constant for each hydro plant by manipulating the equations. In terms of the reference hydro plants incremental cost the hydrothermal scheduling problem can be decomposed as set of single variable quadratic functions. By solving the quadratic equation the allocation of all hydro plants for all schedules can be determined .The thermal plants have be scheduled for the remaining demand. This method is applied to a case study and the results prove the effectiveness of the method.
