Abstract: As a step lower altitude, accessible, located at the contact between the Romanian Plain, the Carpathian foothills and Piedmont Getic, Târgoviºte Plain received natural and human resources they offer, and especially the presence of Ialomiþa and Dâmboviþa rivers. Plain water resources of Târgoviºte consist of surface water (rivers and lakes) and groundwater, its territory was included in three main basins: Dâmboviþa, Argeº and Ialomiþa, streams having a disposition approximately parallel to the north and divergent in the southern area. Since ancient times, the rivers that cross the geographical unit, together with their tributaries, were and are vital sources for the man who contributed to the socio-economic development and human settlements. This claim is based on the distribution of settlements in the plain, whether urban, as is the case of town Târgoviºte, or rural, 24 communes. Regarding water quality among major polluters factors can be included: petroleum pr!
oducts, those resulting from industrial processes, chemicals (fertilizers, pesticides) used in agriculture, household products and those derived from animal husbandry, heavy metals, increasing capacity to link production and urban development by upgrading sewerage and performance of wastewater treatment plants, improper operation of existing treatment stations, lack of organized system of collection, storage and management of waste and sludge from industrial waste water treatment etc.
