Abstract: The 7.6Mw Kashmir earthquake on October 8, 2005 caused numerous landslides throughout the Himalayan mountain of northern Pakistan especially in Balakot, district Mansehra region which caused great loss of human life, destruction of infrastructures and disruption to economic activity. This paper provides information on landslide risk criteria conceptual model for landslide risk to the human life, residential and commercial infrastructure and life line network in Balakot, Pakistan. First the landslide risk criteria was set and the base of land slide risk criteria was studied through identifying the spatial features of the study area by developing land cover / land use map using Landsat 7 ETM+ satellite imagery. The significance of this research is the composition of different applied algorithms, criteria and parameters where in past, they were used as individual where they left many flaws and remained uncertain. In past, either some of the part of the landslide risk !
criteria was ignored or the selection of the traditional parameters was only focused so the resulting landslide risk models remained uncertain, subjective and complex so they need more addition of knowledge, accuracy and well implementation directions for the decision makers. This landslide risk criteria conceptual model has been developed by compositing various, criteria, algorithms, compositing traditional and new parameters, setting their four classes, assigning the different weights to them based on the experts judgment. This integrated approach based landslide risk criteria conceptual model can be road map and can cover many drawbacks in developing landslide risk analysis model for future
