Abstract: A road surface identification strategy is presented to estimate the fiction coefficient of road surface which would determine the upper limit to vehicle lateral acceleration, which is very import for reference yaw rate determination. A two DOF internal model control (IMC) configuration is presented to improve the vehicle steering quality. The vehicle model employed in IMC strategy is a linear time invariant (LTI) single track model with linearized tire lateral forces. The rear wheel active steering (RAS), which could be fulfilled by X-by-wire technology, is introduced to adjust rear tire lateral forces to maintain the vehicle lateral stability without interference in the driver¡¯s front wheel steering maneuver. Simulations combined different driving maneuvers under severe conditions like vehicle mass changes (with the geometrical parameters consequently) and low friction coefficient road surface are designed to testify the effectiveness and disturbances rejection !
of the proposed scheme.
