Abstract: An approach is presented to develop a system that supports location tracking mechanism to track the position of the mobile unit (such as WiFi enabled devices or PDA). This device switching is able to switch session from one device to another in order to provide roaming in an IPv6 network. This switching capability is based on the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and supports using Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). This device switching VoIP applications was developed and tested in an IPv6 test-bed. The integration of location tracking mechanism in an IPv6 network allows continuous multimedia application while roaming. The proposed location tracking is based on Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI). An accurate Path Loss Exponent is calculated based on the RSSI and accurate positioning is determined for the device switching.
