Abstract: - In signal processing, the function of a filter is to remove unwanted parts of the signal, such as random noise, or to extract useful parts of the signal, such as the components lying within a certain frequency range. This paper presents the Digital IIR filter structures to remove Baseline drift and Powerline interference noises from the ECG signal hence it is desirable to remove them for proper analysis and display of the ECG signal. In this paper, firstly IIR high pass filters are designed and implemented to remove Baseline drift and their performance is compared with FIR equiripple filter. After that, IIR notch filter is applied on the original signal & the signal obtained after removing baseline, to remove Powerline interference. The results show that IIR filters have proved that Baseline drift & Powerline Interference can be removed efficiently at very low cost and with less computational complexity.
