Abstract: Traditionally, Digital Rights Management (DRM) is not easy to implement on a Peer-to-Peer (P2P) network because of the unstructured P2P file sharing system makes it difficult to both store and protect digital content simultaneously. In this paper we propose a Loosely Coupled Peer-to-peer Content System (LCPCS), provide digital content protection and video stream sharing. The feature of LCPCS include: 1) a novel DRM scheme for P2P networks based on open sharing, 2) a digital content protection, 3) an on-line server is unnecessary, 4) finite peers can access the same video program at the same time, and 5) a valid period restricts the digital content available to each peer user to a specific time period. The digital content distributed via our proposed scheme is encrypted with secret key and thus can be securely protected. Only legitimate peers have purchase a DRM rights can access the plaintext of digital content. Two important issues need to be addressed: 1) efficie!
nt protection of digital content: Many peers generate their own secret key and encrypt or decrypt digital content; and 2) the number of peers permitted to access the same video program simultaneously. An example and implementation are given at the end of this paper.
