Abstract: The original procedure for identification of nonlinear continuous time systems with time variable parameters based on distribution theory, developed by the authors in a previous paper, is now deeply analysed. The fundamental of distribution theory applied to nonlinear system identification purposes is clarified. There are considered nonlinear dynamical systems described by differential equations whose right part is a rational function. Some of the system parameters change in time according to unknown laws. These laws are expressed as finite degree time polynomials whose parameters are included in the set of parameters to be identified. Considering functionals weighted by polynomials, it is possible to transform a time variant differential system of equations to an algebraic system in unknown parameters.
