Abstract: The performance of solar thermal collectors can be improved either by optimizing their construction either/and by using tracking systems in order to have maximum possible incident radiation on their surfaces. The paper refers to optimization of their construction in a theoretical way by using Matlab. First, it is presented the maximization of the efficiency function for a collector which has the same surface and parameters as a commercial existing one. Then, efficiencies for different types of collectors with a reduced surface are presented: collectors with one or two glazing and collectors with Aluminum or Copper absorber plates. Finally, the results are compared and conclusions are made.
