Abstract: This paper includes the study of a very simple reference current source, with cross-connected known current mirrors, where the thermal-compensation of the sum of branch currents (the total current) is done. This kind of approach is adequate when the reference must supply current in a charge with grounded or connected to voltage supply end. The first and second-order thermal compensation of the reference current are analyzed and the equations representing the total current compensation conditions are established. The current reference is designed in a CMOS 0.35µm process and his quality has been verified by simulation. The simulation results show the possibility of achieving good performances for a total current of 8...15µA, across a temperature range of 0 - 100oC: for only first-order thermal compensation, an average thermal drift of -200 ppm/ oC (or a maximum variation < 2%) and for second-order thermal compensation – a maximum variation < 0.45%.
