Abstract: This paper shows results of computer analysis of images in the purpose of finding differences between medical images in order of their classifications in terms of separation malign tissue from normal and benign tissue. The diagnostics of malign tissue is of the crucial importance in medicine. Therefore, ascertainment of the correlation between multifractals parameters and "chaotic" cells could be of the great appliance. This paper shows the application of multifractal analysis for additional help in cancer diagnosis, as well as diminishing. of the subjective factor and error probability.

Abstract: In recent years extensive research has opened challenging issues for wireless sensor networks (WSNs) deployment. Among numerous challenges faced while designing architectures and protocols, maintaining connectivity and maximizing the network lifetime stand out as critical considerations. WSNs are formed by a large number of resource-constrained and inexpensive nodes, which has an impact on protocol design and network scalability. Sensor networks have enabled a range of applications where the objective is to observe an environment and collect information about the observed phenomena or events. This has lead to the emergence of a new generation sensor networks called sensor actuator networks. Approaches developed to query sensor-actuator networks (SANETs) are either application-specific or generic. Application-specific SANETs provide limited reusability, are net cost effective and may require extensive programming efforts to make the network able to serve new applica!
tions. A WSNs should be able to operate for long time with little or no external management. The sensor nodes must be able to configurate themselves in the presence of adverse situations. In this work, dealing with challenges for WSNs deployment, we start with mobility-based communication in WSNs. Then, we introduce service-oriented SANETs (SOSANETs) as an approach to build customizable SANETs. In the second part, we describe localization systems and analyze self configurability, situation awareness and intrusion detection system. In the third part, we present wireless distributed detection as well as a model for WSN simulation. Finally, conclusions and proposals for future research are given.

Abstract: Safer, less expensive, and higher-quality health care can be achieved using clinical decision support (CDS), although the use of CDS often leads to disappointing results. Various problems and limitations can be pointed being the most frequently referred by the physicians the inadequate implementation of the clinical workflow. Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Patient Health Record Systems (PHRS) can play an important role in CDS mitigating those limitations and enabling the effective use of the archived information in the support of the clinical practice and generating the right knowledge to make decisions. The availability of such knowledge is crucial either, for the hospitals and for the government institutions. This brings new requirements for the EHR and PHRS conception and for the use of the information out of the boundaries of the hospitals and health centers. Interoperation and open models constitute the greater challenges that EHR enfaces in the very next!
future. This paper presents a survey on the design, development and implementation of PHRS in terms of organizational, regional, national and worldwide initiatives. Finally is presented the EHR implementation in the Hospital Geral de Santo António, EPE, one of the major hospitals in the North Region of Portugal.

Abstract: Abstract: - In this paper, we deal with the attitude control of a satellite equipped with wheels of reaction, using the static output feedback. In the first part, we set the control and its integral in the state-feedback form. Then, by using the algorithm of Kucera, we establish the necessary and sufficient conditions so that the nonlinear system which models the satellite will be stabilizable by the Static Output Feedback. Thereafter, we present the robust stabilization of the attitude control; this robustness is influenced by the parametric uncertainly of the model and by the input noise in the system. The main results of this paper show that the sufficient conditions for the existence of the robust static output feedback control can stabilize the studied system. The controller proposed here is based upon a generalization of Gronwall's lemma.

Abstract: Automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) is a pattern recognition application of great importance for access, traffic surveillance and law enforcement. Therefore many studies are concentrated on creating new algorithms or improving their performance. Many authors have presented algorithms that are based on individual methods such as skeleton features, neural networks or template matching for recognizing the license plate symbols. In this paper we present a novel approach for decisional fusion of several recognition methods, as well as new classification features. The classification results are proven to be significantly better that those obtained for each method considered individually. For better results, syntax corrections are also considered. Several trainable and non-trainable decisional fusion rules have been taken into account, evidencing each of the classification methods at their best. Experimental results are shown, the results being very encouraging by !
obtaining a symbol good recognition rate (GRC) of more than 99.4\% on a real license plate database.

Abstract: Automatic sea floor characterization is mainly based on the signal or image processing of the data acquired using an active acoustic system called sediment sonar. Each processing method suits a specific type of sonar, such as the monobeam, the multibeam, or the side-scan sonar. Most types of sonar offer a two dimensional view of the sea floor surface. Therefore, a high resolution image results which can be further analyzed. The inconvenient is that the sonar cannot view inside of the sea floor for a deeper analysis. Therefore, lower frequency acoustic systems are used for in-depth sea floor penetration (boomer, sparker, airguns or sub-bottom profilers). In this case, a mono dimensional signal results. Previous studies on the low-frequency systems are mainly based on the visual inspection by a geological human expert. To automatize this process, we propose the use of feature sets based on the transposed expert fuzzy reasoning. Two features are extracted, the first !
based on the sea floor contour and the second based on the sub-bottom sediment texture.

Abstract: The paper presents a concrete case of an actual aircraft electric power system analysis. Using the Boolean logical structures we define a conceptual fault tree. The fault tree will express all the combination of factors that can lead to system failure in the onboard electric system. The further on analysis rely on AND – OR logic elements, and the goal is to improve the fault-tolerance behavior of the system. The examples and numeric figures are for a c.c. electric power system of an operational aircraft.

Abstract: Existing environmental assessment methods attempt to measure improvements in the environmental performance of buildings relative to current typical practice or requirements. The assumption is that by continually improving the environmental performance of individual buildings, the collective reduction in resource use and ecological loadings by the building industry will be sufficient to fully address the environmental agenda. The choice of the term 'green building assessment' is seen as a useful term to convey this intent. Several environmental methodologies and methods for evaluating environmental performance of buildings are being currently developed. In a global scale it is worth mentioning SB (Sustainable Building) Tool, formerly known as GB Tool (Green Building Tool) which is an international project coordinated from Canada, LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) a method developed in the USA with a world wide application and CASBEE (Comprehensive!
Assessment System for Building Environmental Efficiency), a method developed in Japan. In Europe, some of the most frequently used include BREEAM (Building Research Establish Environmental Assessment Method) in the UK and also it is worth mentioning the HQE (High Environmental Quality) developed in France during the last decade and the VERDE method developed recently in Spain (Maria Sinou 2006). In this paper several method will be discuss and will become main references for developing Sustainable building Tool for Malaysia.

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to discuss the method of modeling and control system design for a loitering aircraft of aileron-less folding wing. A nonlinear model of the aircraft was established, and then linearized by small disturbance method. The lateral-directional stability augmentation options were analyzed through the root locus plots. The pole placement method based on linear quadratic regulator (LQR) technology was used to achieve desirable dynamic characteristics. In the analysis, the state parameters which represent rapid oscillation states of the aircraft such as roll rate and yaw rate were set as primary control parameters in the inner loop. The states oscillated slowly such as rolling angle and yaw angle were set as main control parameters in the outer loop. Based on the self-organizing fuzzy control algorithm, the aircraft can be controlled to fly in a desired path. Two types of course control plan were investigated and verified. The results show that !
the control plans are feasible and the control system is adequately robust to meet the requirements of the course control.

Abstract: The static Transfer Switch (STS) is a network reconfiguring device and is used for power quality improvement of sensitive loads. It selects, at high speeds, between two or more sources of power and provides the best available power to the sensitive load. This paper presents fundamentals of solid state STS with a detailed emphasis on power quality disturbance recognition scheme, as it is responsible for fast and accurate detection of disturbances, thereby ensuring healthy transfer of load to an alternate source. Extensive simulations are carried out for investigating the performance of rather commonly employed detection scheme. The behavior of detection scheme is analyzed against various types of disturbance scenarios including system transients.

Abstract: - The scope of our research is finding a correlation between the correctness indicator and the reliability indicator for software programs. For this, the correctness and reliability indicators will be calculated for a simple program, written in C programming language. The computations will be made for each program version obtained by correcting different error type found in the testing process. Will be observed there is a closed correlation between correctness and reliability in the way that for an increasing of the correctness level there will also be a significant increase of the reliability level.

Abstract: - The purpose of our research is to find algorithms for loading large maps on PDA and place on it the geographical location given by latitude and longitude. C++ and C# programming languages have been used for implementation. It was elaborated a software which runs on PDA with Windows Mobile 2003 OS and implements algorithms for finding the coordinate on a map represented like a TIF image. The application must localize the coordinates known by longitude and latitude over a given image in TIF format which can represent a map with scale 1:200000 or 1:25000. The map headers contain information that refers to map limit. An algorithm that permits map synchronization when the value of current map is out of limit it was necessary.

Abstract: In this paper, an evaluation of the network routing algorithms is made. Problems that arise in routing are treated, each presented in different scenarios in order to obtain a result in comparing different topologies. The comparison analysis is pursuing obtaining a result over the performance of the network. In order to measure performance, the costs of a network and the delays are aimed. After that, the topology effect is presented. In matter of performance, topology and blocking problems are strongly related. So an analysis of the blocking probability is also presented. As conclusions, solutions for the presented scenarios and also for other important scenarios are given. In all these algorithms the time problem was not yet consider until now, so the average execution time is finally analyzed.

Abstract: We present a comparative analysis for several multi-agents participating in Trading Agents Competition, Classic. The game is first partitioned into separate modules, for which distinct strategies may be developed. The strategies used are taken into consideration both individually and in relation with other agents, but also the game medium. Conclusions regarding possible improvements, better strategies and potential weaknesses are driven from each agent analysis. Alternatives like static market algorithms vs. dynamic market algorithms are considered in detail and advantages and disadvantages are discussed. Also a discussion of TAC market and possibilities for the stochastic system approximation with a deterministic one is realized.

Abstract: Most CMPs use on-chip network to connect cores and tend to integrate more simple cores on a single die. As the number of cores increases, the on-chip network will play an important role in the performance of future CMPs. Due to the tradeoff between the performance and area constraint in on-chip network designs, we propose the use of triplet-based topology in on-chip interconnection networks and demonstrate how a 9-node triplet-based topology can be mapped to on-chip network. By using group-caching protocol to exploit traffic locality, triplet-based topology offers lower latency and energy consumption than 2D-MESH. We run multithreaded commercial benchmarks on multi-core simulator GEMS to generate practical traffics and simulate these traffics on network simulator Garnet. Our experiment results show that triplet-based network can increase the work-related throughput by 3%~11% and reduce average network latency by 24%~32% compared with 2D-MESH, with the router energy!
consumption reduced by 13%~16% and the link energy consumption reduced by 14%~16%.

Abstract: Constraint handling is one of the most difficult parts encountered in practical engineering design optimizations. Different kinds of methods were proposed for handling constraints namely, genetic algorithm, self-adaptive penalty approach and other evolutionary algorithms. Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) efficiently solved most nonlinear optimization problems with inequity constraints. This study hybridizes PSO with a meta-heuristic algorithm called Tabu Search (TS) to solve the same engineering design problems. The algorithm starts with a population of particles or solution generated randomly and is updated using the update equations of PSO. The updated particles are then subjected to Tabu Search for further refinement. The PSO algorithm handles the global search for the solution while TS facilitates the local search. With embedded hyrbridization, this study which we call PSO-TS, showed better results compared to algorithms reported in Hu et al's study as applied!
to four benchmark engineering problems. Specifically, this study beat the results of Coello, Deb and Hu.

Abstract: This paper presents the design and testing of a high frequency, high efficiency inverter using silicon carbide (SiC) JFET power module. A rugged negative voltage gate drive circuit is used to solve the normally on problem of JFET devices and avoid the bridge shot-through during power on or power off. The circuit can provide over-voltage protection, over current protection and over temperature protection circuits to ensure the safe operation of the SiC JFET module and the resultant inverter system. The simulation and measurement results show that SiC JFETs have short turn-on and turn-off times, which will result in lower switching losses than silicon (Si) IGBTs. The low on-resistance in SiC JFETs will result in lower conduction losses. The experiment results of a 1kW SiC JFET-based inverter showed 3% efficiency improvement by a SiC JFET-based inverter over a Si IGBT- based inverter.

Abstract: In order to detect and identify the defects on GIS, the ultra-high frequency envelope detection circuit and high-speed data acquisition system was designed, and the tests of five typical defects for GIS were made in the laboratory and the envelope signal was acquired based on Ultra-high frequency (UHF) envelop detection circuit. And wavelet denoising technique was used to reduce the white noise of the measurement envelop signal. A large number of experiments show that time-domain characteristics of partial discharge signals generated by the same defect model are about the same, envelopes are nearly identical too. The time-domain characteristics of partial discharge signals generated by different defect models are different, and their envelope shapes are different too. A new method of pattern recognition was proposed which analyses the characteristic parameters of the envelope signal at time-domain with BP neural network. A large number of test data in Lab indicate !
that the method is effective.

Abstract: Incomplete and noisy data significantly distort data mining results. Therefore, taking care of missing values or noisy data becomes extremely crucial in data mining. Recent researches start to exploit data clustering techniques to estimate missing values. Obviously the quality of clustering analysis significantly influences the performance of missing data estimation. It was proven that clustering problem is NP-hard. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is the recently suggested heuristic search process for solving data clustering problems. In this paper, a compounded PSO (CPSO) clustering approach is proposed for the missing value estimation. Normalization methods are first utilized to filter outliers and prevent some attributes from dominating the clustering result. Then the K-means algorithm and reflex mechanism are combined with the standard PSO clustering so that it can quickly converge to a reasonable good solution. Meanwhile, an iteration-based filling-in value !
scheme is utilized to guide the searching of CPSO clustering for the optimal estimate values. Effectiveness of the proposed approach is demonstrated on some data sets for four different rates of missing data. The empirical evaluation shows the superiority of CPSO over the well known K-means, PSO, and SOM-based approaches, and it is desirable for solving missing value problems.

Abstract: The subject of this paper is a study of the influence of the inertial sensors errors on the position, speed and attitude of a bidimensional strap-down inertial navigation system in a horizontal plane. The MATLAB/SIMULINK models used for the acceleration and rotation sensors are based on the sensors data sheets and on the IEEE equivalent models for the inertial sensors. The models can be used in the numerical simulation of the strap-down inertial navigation system, close by real conditions from the point of view of the distortions suffered by the useful acceleration and rotation signals at the passing through any type of accelerometers or gyros desired to be implemented in the navigator. These models have the advantage to work independent from each of the sensors' errors and thus to study their influence on the inertial navigator.

Abstract: The next generation wireless communications systems require higher data rates transmission in order to meet the higher demand of quality services. Research in wireless digital communications techniques have been expending very rapidly in the last few decades, resulting more reliable wireless communication systems that operate at higher spectral efficiency. Since there have been an increased in demand for higher data rate transmission, the systems are incorporating the multi-carrier transmission techniques. Therefore, Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is one of the leading candidates for future wireless systems. The objective of the paper is to provide a survey on multi-carrier transmission techniques i.e. OFDM and the combination of OFDM with Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA). The review on this rapidly expending area of wireless communication field is carried out on research works for the past 15 years. And in this survey also we Trying to exp!

Abstract: This study considers the propagation of a gravity current of a Newtonian (fresh water) or a non-Newtonian liquid (dilute solutions of polyethyleneoxide) with density ƒâ, initial speed U and height h upon the free surface of an ambient liquid (salty water) with density ƒâ+ƒ´ƒâƒn at rest in a basin. The investigation is performed in a three dimensional configuration. With the help of the spatiotemporal diagrams technique, we measured the time evolution of the progress x, the spreading y of the lighter liquid into denser liquid and the mixing layer z. These evolutions have been characterized by scaling laws.

Abstract: Many facial expression recognition approaches have been suggested in various applications. Robustness becomes more and more important for these applications especially in security systems. This paper proposes a novel robust facial expression recognition approach based on robust minimax probability machine (RMPM). By addressing the issue of robustness with respect to estimation errors in the means and covariance matrices via a simple modification of the input data, it can guarantee that the test set accuracy (TSA) is always greater than the estimated low bound for the RMPM. The experiments illustrate that the RMPM-based recognition approach outperforms the MPM-based approach.

Abstract: Abstract: - This paper has studied techniques for building system configuration, control architecture and implementation of a vision-based wheeled mobile robot. The completed WMR has been built with the dead-reckoning method so as to determine the vehicle¡¦s velocity and posture by the numerical differentiation/integration over short travelling. The developed PID controllers show good transient performances, that is, velocity of right and left wheels can track the commands quickly and correctly. Moreover, the path tracking control laws have been also executed in the DSP-based controller in the WMR. The image-recognized system can obtain motion information 15 [frames/sec] by using H-S model, which is one of the well-known color detection methods. The better performance a vision system has, the more successful the control laws design. The WMR obtains its posture from the dead-reckoning device together with the vision system. Finally, we integrate these subsystems an!
d complete the operators of the whole system. This complementing wheeled mobile robot system can be thought of as a platform for testing various tracking control laws and signal filtering method. To solve the problem of position/orientation tracking control of the WMR, two kinematical optimal nonlinear predictive control laws are developed to manipulate the vehicle to asymptotically follow the desired trajectories. A Kalman filtering scheme is used to reduce the bad effect of the imagine nose, thereby improving the accuracy of pose estimation. The experimental system is composed of a wireless RS232 modem, a DSP-based controller for the wheeled mobile robot and a vision system with a host computer. A computation-effective and high-performance DSP-based controller is constructed for executing the developed sophisticated path tracking laws. Simulation and experimental results are included to illustrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed control laws.

Abstract: This paper presents new solution methods and results based on a refined binary particle swarm optimization (RBPSO) for solving the generation/pumping scheduling problem within the power system operation with pumped-storage units. The proposed RBPSO approach combines a basic particle swarm optimization (PSO) with binary encoding/decoding techniques. Complete solution algorithms and encoding/decoding techniques are proposed in the paper. The optimal schedules of both pumped-storage and thermal units are concurrently obtained within the evolutionary process of evaluation functions. Significantly, no hydro-thermal iteration is needed. The proposed approach is applied with success to an actual utility system, which consists of four pumped-storage units and 34 thermal units. The results indicate the attractive properties of the RBPSO approach in practical application, namely, a highly optimal solution cost and more robust convergence behavior.

Title of the Paper: Identifying Appropriate Methodologies and Strategies for Vertical Mining with Incomplete Data
Authors as they appear in the Paper: Faris Alqadah, Zhen Hu, Lawrence J. Mazlack

Abstract: Many data mining methods are dependent on recognizing frequent patterns. Frequent patterns lead to the discovery of association rules, strong rules, sequential episodes, and multi-dimensional patterns. All can play a critical role in helping corporate and scientific institutions to understand and analyze their data. Patterns should be discovered in time and space efficient manner. Discovered patterns have authentic value when they accurately describe data trends; and, do not exclusively reflect noise or chance encounters. Vertical data mining algorithms key advantage is that they can outperform their horizontal counterparts in terms of both time and space efficiency. Little work has addressed how incomplete data influences vertical data mining. Consequently, the quality and utility of vertical mining algorithms results remains ambiguous as real data sets often contain incomplete data. This paper considers how to establish methodologies that deal with incomplete dat!
a in vertical mining; additionally, it seeks to develop strategies for determining the maximal utilization that can be mined from a dataset based on how much and what data is missing.

Abstract: While much of the prior studies on Information system (IS) adoption and usage continuance have examined cognitive factors, the emotion factors in understanding and predicting user behavior remained relatively unexplored. This study proposed a hybrid model that integrates emotion, cognition, satisfaction, and post adoption behavior in order to obtain a better understanding of users¡¦ continuance intention of IS. Three hundred and eighteen Blackboard Learning System (BLS) users were obtained from a survey. The paper assessed the psychometric properties of the measures through confirmatory factor analysis and then employed structural equation modeling analysis in order to examine the prospective model to better predict users¡¦ continuous adoption of IS. The results show that positive and negative emotions mediate the effect of confirmation and directly predict user satisfaction. However, perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use predict the level of user satisfac!

Abstract: An interactive pareto optimal with advantage (IPOA) approach for bi-objective programming is proposed and applied on capacitor placement and sizing problem. Two main contradictory concerned which including cost and quality properties are considered as bi-objective programming formulation. The IPOA approach can provide a valuable trade-off pareto-optimal solution by following the intention of decision makers (DMs). Many nonlinear characteristics of distribution feeders, and their load, operating and expansion constraints could be all considered for practical operation. Also, both fixed and switched types of capacitors are included. The effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed approach were demonstrated by an actual feeder study systematically with particle swarm optimization method. The experiment showed encouraging results, suggesting that the proposed approach was capable of efficiently determining higher quality solutions about distribution planning problem.

Abstract: Face biometrics is an automated method of recognizing a person's face based on a physiological or behavioral characteristic. Face recognition works by first obtaining an image of a person. This process is usually known as face detection. In this paper, we describe an approach for face detection that is able to locate a human face embedded in an outdoor or indoor background. Segmentation of novel or dynamic objects in a scene, often referred to as background subtraction or foreground segmentation, is a critical early step in most computer vision applications in domains such as surveillance and human-computer interaction. All previous implementations aim to handle properly one or more problematic phenomena, such as global illumination changes, shadows, highlights, foreground-background similarity, occlusion and background clutter. Satisfactory results have been obtained but very often at the expense of real-time performance. We propose a method for modeling the backg!
round that uses per-pixel time-adaptive Gaussian mixtures in the combined input space of pixel color and pixel neighborhood. We add a safety net to this approach by splitting the luminance and chromaticity components in the background and use their density functions to detect shadows and highlights. Several criteria are then combined to discriminate foreground and background pixels. Our experiments show that the proposed method possesses robustness to problematic phenomena such as global illumination changes, shadows and highlights, without sacrificing real-time performance, making it well-suited for a live video event like face biometric that requires face detection and recognition.

Abstract: Causal and effect analysis influences the effectiveness of decision-making and the consumer behaviour. The complex relationship between cause and effect as well as the fuzzy nature of human life make the casual and effect analysis difficult. This research applies a fuzzy DEMATEL method for group decision-making to gather group ideas and analyze the cause and effect relationship of complex problems in fuzzy environments. Procedures of the fuzzy DEMATEL method are presented. Using the fuzzy DEMATEL procedures, a set of service quality criteria involved are separated into the cause and effect groups for helping decision-makers focus on those criteria that provide great influence. An empirical study applies the fuzzy DEMATEL method to the service quality expectation of Taiwanese leisure farms. This study used purpose sampling, a total of 215 valid instruments collected from Beijing tourists¡¦ perception on service quality. The result and contribution are discussed.

Abstract: Image registration and fusion are conducted with an automated approach, which applies the automatic adaptation from frame to frame with the threshold parameters. Rather than qualitative approach, quantitative measures have been proposed to evaluate outcomes of retina image fusion. Concepts of the discrete entropy, discrete energy, relative entropy, mutual information, uncertainty coefficient and information redundancy have been introduced. Both the Canny edge detector and control point identification are employed to extract retinal vasculature using the adaptive exploratory algorithms. The shape similarity criteria have been selected for control point matching. The Mutual-Pixel-Count maximization based optimal procedure has also been developed to adjust the control points at the sub-pixel level. Then the global maxima equivalent result has been derived by calculating Mutual-Pixel-Count local maxima. For two cases of image fusion practices, the testing results are e!
valuated on a basis of information theories where the satisfactory outcomes have been made.

Abstract: Applications of virtual reality and augmented reality have been proposed for engineering education. Cases on some electrical and mechanical systems have been studied. Virtual reality is a technology which allows people to interact directly with the computerized virtual environment. Based on computerized models, augmented reality is achieved by combining the additional virtual information with the real information, so that the augmented scene can be generated. Both techniques will enhance pattern recognition accuracy for electrical and mechanical systems, such as target identification and spectroscopic object recognition. Compared with conventional course instruction of image processing and signal processing, both techniques will significantly broaden the academic background of student learning with better understanding of theoretical methodologies. In addition, these techniques have the great potential to be successfully integrated with the education based software!
programs and hardware tools to improve pedagogical methods, such as the Matlab and Simulink, which can be used for data analysis, numerical simulation and advanced computing. Some practical examples in electrical and mechanical systems have been presented in the article.
