Abstract: Propagation of solitons in single-mode fibers with higher-order dispersion is considered under the influence of polarization mode dispersion (PMD). The behaviour of two partial pulses, evolved due to polarization mode dispersion, is investigated under the presence of higher-order dispersions namely soliton self-frequency shift (SSFS) and third-order dispersion (TOD). The coupled equations representing the propagation of optical pulse in single mode fiber with these higher-order dispersions are solved using split-step Fourier algorithm. It is found that the self-frequency shift degrades the stability of the soliton system to some extent, but the third-order dispersion not only degrades the stability but the resultant soliton deviates from its ideal position. It is also observed that, this deviation is considerably small when the optical pulse propagates at relatively far from the zero-dispersion wavelength. The pulse width of the resultant soliton and the separation!
between the maximum locations of two partial pulses is evaluated over the length of the fiber under the influence of third order dispersion.
