Abstract: A novel rate adaptive Channel MAC paradigm has been proposed considering perfect channel prediction and optimal rate adaptation. Simulation results reveal a significant performance gap between the theoretical rate adaptive Channel MAC and existing rate adaptive protocols- such as `Opportunistic Auto Rate' (OAR). Furthermore, we show that the proposed scheme still outperforms OAR in the presence of moderate channel prediction inaccuracies. We further extend the rate adaptive Channel MAC considering receiver diversity using two variants and present relevant analytical models. Simulation results reveal possible throughput improvement in the rate adaptive Channel MAC when we consider receiver diversity. The application shows the feasibility of the rate adaptive Channel MAC even in a Single Input Multiple Output (SIMO) environment.
