Abstract: An envelope demodulation technique based on wavelet packet transform and energy operator was proposed, and it was applied to perform the incipient fault diagnosis for rolling element bearing. Through the analysis of vibration signals, the relative spectral entropy of envelope spectrum and the gravity frequency were constructed two-dimensional features vector to distinguish fault type. Furthermore, the K-nearest neighbors were used to identify faults. The proposed technique could avoid inaccurate diagnosis only depending on envelope demodulation of vibration signal. The experimental results proved that the proposed technique was very effective for rolling element bearing.
