Abstract: Water Distribution System forms that component of water supply scheme which conveys water from source to destination. Effective operation and maintenance of the system depends upon the system parameters such as frictional resistance of pipes. But the ageing of the pipes changes the resistance characteristics considerably; also the leaks in the system and the unauthorized consumption's may drastically alter the behavior of the system. Leakage from the WDN apart from leading to loss of good quality water also leads to contamination of the Water Distribution System from sewer line and ground water. With a view to see the effect of leakage a steady state mathematical formulation with and without leakage for water distribution network is introduced which calculate pipe discharge and nodal head in distribution system. Following [2], these formulations have been named as pipe discharge formulations, nodal head formulation, nodal head correction formulation and loop discha!
rge correction formulation. The analysis methods on lines of method of balancing heads (Hardy Cross method), method of balancing flows, Newton Raphson method, Linear theory method and Finite element method are developed and compared. Comparative results of these methods to two simple example networks are presented. Presented formulations and analysis methods would be of great help to students, academicians and practicing engineers. This forms one of the objectives of this paper, apart from comparing them.
